For those of you who have track IR, maybe you can help me understand how it works.

If you want to look out the right window, i would turn my head to the right. If i was in a mech, i would see out the right window (or the side of my hunchbacks AC20). In my office i would see my bookself. Because the monitor doesn't move with my head. So does the headtracker exagerate your head movement so you move your head a little to the right, while keeping your eyes on the screen, and the image pans much farther to the right?

I'm curious what that would do to the aiming reticle(s), would it stay in the middle of the screen while you head panned, would it stay fixed to torso so you could "free look?"

Conceptually I like the idea a lot but i'm struggling with how it would work.

TrackIR can be configured in a variety of ways - You can set it up to make the in-cockpit camera 1:1 with where your head is pointed, or it can effectively act like a big joystick. The software is very flexible.

A feature I doubt they'd implement, but would be really cool to see, would be locking onto targets by looking at them. Some real life fighter aircraft actually have systems that work like this, though I assume Piranha wouldn't change the reticle system for TrackIR users.

Just like to bump this again in my support for TrackIR.

Or, even, at least mouse look, so you can look around at the various Hula Girls you bought for your cockpit. And for battle and situational awareness, I suppose.

I might actually buy one if MWO supports it, though I'd wanna see a video of it first :)

I cannot play a Flight Sim or ARMA2 without it.

Once you get over the initial (small) learning curve, it's a must have.

I completely concur, The moment I know that this game uses TRACKIR, I will prepurchase. Having used TrackIR in Rise of Flight, even on a small monitor, I get the immersive effect of open air 360° around.

In this game, TrackIR would be fantastic for a complete field of view not only for cockpit controls but for full battle awareness.

Do it, implement the support for TrackIR, and you'll get a gazillion more users.

As soon as I know this game will support head tracking, I will purchase a means to do so.

I have an older version with the 6DOF pack and it's awesome in flight sims like LOMAC where you can slave IR seeker heads to where you look. It could be especially cool in a Mechwarrior setting as with such a setup it would be feasible to untether the arm mounted weapons from the torso mounted ones; however, we haven't really seen aiming separate from torso facing since MW3 (and I found it was a bit of a pain in that game, thus rarely utilized it), but it does open up possibilities. Even if it were just for looking around, I support the inclusion.

The player can separate the reticles without having to move his ’Mech’s torso by activating pilot look. As the MechWarrior looks around, inside the cockpit, the reticle for the arms will follow where he is looking. When the player finishes pilot looking, the view and reticle will automatically return to face forward.

Can I get a Frick YEAH! here?

Yah, the revealed that in a thread on monday I think. Still its a huge step to having track IR supported. If the head can be controlled by some means, its just a step away from being able to hook track IR into it.

I see someone beat me to making this thread.

Good to see other people want TrackIR support too.

I can imagine the "BAN TRACK IR ITS UNFAIR" threads already.

I wholeheartedly support this. This would be my #1 most wanted feature for this awesome-looking game.

Well, it would seem that TrackIR's in, according to PC Gamer's preview here: http://www.pcgamer.c...online-preview/

In terms of the in-cockpit experience, I was glad to see free-look in there, but even happier to see separate crosshairs that independently correspond to where torso-mounted weapons and arm-mounted weapons are pointed. In other words, if I turn to aim at an enemy up on a ridge at my 10 o’clock, I probably wouldn’t rotate my entire body to face them—I’d just aim my arms, and maybe only have access to a few lasers rather than my full loadout. TrackIR support is also confirmed, thank goodness.

This makes me happy to see in print, but can we get a Dev in here to confirm, please.

BTW, set up my TrackIR today and it is awesome!

Yes, Devs please confirm what PCGamer has said. This is honestly some of the most exciting news I've seen out of the GDC information that's been relayed. Please confirm my (our) excitement is not unfounded!

I echo the concern here too. I would like to get Dev approval before I click the "Submit Order" button for my TrackIR.

There's been an instance here and there where the reviewing agency mistakenly stated something, be they a community nit-pick, misnamed chassis, or going so far as to state official support for hardware.

According to this thread over on NaturalPoint they've been talking with Piranha and they at least have the SDK.

So, out with it Piranha! We're onto you!
