Hi Everyone,

I'm still hashing out the fine details of this, but I promised I'd get the thread up overnight so here it is. I've looked carefully at everyone's requests for commands and tried to accomodate everyone that I could.

The Scenario:

It is the year 2581.
The reunification war has been raging for years, with many numerous and bloody battles having been fought. Pushed to the brink, the Taurian Navy has resorted to hit and run tactics, savaging the supply lines of the SLDF Navy. Frustrated, High Command is looking for a knock out blow, something that will finally cripple the Taurian Navy once and for all. From their frustration, the 13th Fleet was born. Cobbled together from across the Inner Sphere, the 13th fleet has been outfitted with the newest ships and fighters for one purpose, to hunt down and destroy the elusive Taurian 3rd Fleet, their most powerful and last remaining naval power. The men of the 13th fleet are confident, but the Taurians are on their home turf, and are defending their nation and their families...

Intel Briefing:
Commanders, the 13th Fleet is being ordered to investigate a little known star system nicknamed Prospector's Paradise. Probes and recon jumpships have reported picking up sporadic transmissions coming from the system. Intel reports decryptions of the transmissions indicate the central star of the system may be being used as a refueling and recharging point for the Taurian Navy. Recent reports indicate the Taurian 3rd Fleet has been identified within two jumps of Prospector's Paradise. High Command has ordered Admiral Coontz to take the 13th Fleet to Prospector's Paradise, engage any Taurian forces, and await the Taurian 3rd Fleet.

The system itself is quite bland, with a Class B star surround by 3 satellites. The closest sateillite is a small rocky planetioid. A small asteroid field separates the planetoid from two large gas giants.

13th Fleet Composition

1 New Syrtis Class Carrier (Flagship)
1 Samarkand Block 1 Class Carrier

2 Avatar Class Battle Cruisers
1 Congress Class Frigate
1 Riga Class Frigate
2 Quixote Class Frigates
5 Baron Class Destroyers
4 Vincent Class Corvettes
4 Bonaventure Class Corvettes
4 Valiant Class Corvettes

Taurian 3rd Fleet Composition

Unknown
1 Winchester Class Cruiser (Confirmed)
4 Wagon Wheel Class Frigates (Rumored - Unconfirmed)
Unknown Number of Pinto Class Corvettes

Rules:

Pretty standard stuff, no Godmodding or grandstanding. This is a naval battle with two capable foes. Your ship will take damage, ships will be lost. Multiple characters are allowed and encouraged. For right now I'd like to keep RPers to one side or another - (if it gets dry or we have issues I'll allow people to play both sides). This type of RP is pretty new to all of us, so we'll play it by ear, however if someone shoots at your ship and they hit it - describe the damage, don't contradict. PM me if you want crippling damage or a ship destroyed etc - I'll figure out an unbiased way to do it.

Ship Ownership/Characters
New Syrtis Class Carrier - SLS Basel - Oni Storm
Samarkand Class Carrier - ChaosGrinder
Avatar Class Battle Cruiser - SLS Prometheus - Listless Nomad (we'll see about this one)
Congress Class Frigate - SLS Sparrowhawk - Red Duck
Riga Class Frigate - SLS Voidwalker - Sparks Murphey
Vincent Class Corvette - SLS Defiant - Grafvitnir

ALL other ships are unclaimed.

Taurian Naval Commanders
Listless Nomad (doubling up)
Gammadin
RogueSpear

SLDF ASF Squadron Commanders
The 806th "Shieldbreakers" Attack Squadron/ 888th "Snowmen" Interceptor Squadron (Riga) - Sparks Murphey

If you would like to play as the Taurian side - post it here, but don't post your ship type. PM me and I'll PM you with the Taurian order of battle. I want to keep a little bit of surprise for the SLDF. That being said, feel free to post here with ship class you'd like to command, or fighter squadrons, or as a marine. Feel free to post Bios as well if you'd like. I do ask that you stick to two main characters at most - just so things don't get bogged down. If anyone has a huge beef with the ships presented - and are just dying to captain a type of ship not in the SLDF order of battle let me know. I'd like to accomodate as many people as possible!

Lastly I'd like to thank everyone for being willing to participate in my grand experiment. I hope we have some fun!

I'd like to play a fighter squadron, if I may. The 806th "Shieldbreakers" Attack Squadron, composed of 3 Stukas and their 3 Eagle escorts. If that seems too small on its own (remember, this is against full on WarShips) I'd like to add the 888th "Snowmen" Interceptor Squadron (a squadron of 6 Sabres), giving me the full ASF complement of the Riga, or half that of one of the Avatars.

As with how I'd imagine others would be running their ships, I'd be focusing most of my RP on the commander of the unit, with cutaways to other members in the battle.

Is anyone interested in playing on the Taurian side? Remember that what I have posted above for them is only what's rumored. I'm not revealing their true order of battle until the RP starts if no one wants play on their side.

Edit - also, if you have claimed a ship - please give it a name so that I can add it to the main post. Also don't forget that you'll need some kind of captain character, so please post that as well.

I was actually hoping to have players on both sides so excellent Gammadin! I'll PM you the Taurian order of battle and you can take your pick of the ships available.

BIO: Wolfe Striker
Posted Image

Age: 53
Home Planet: Terra
Family:
Wife; Rachel Marie Cross Striker - Deceased
Children:
Son; Adolf Striker age 24 commanding Lieutenant of Death Angels Squadron stationed aboard SLS Basel
Son; Clay Striker age 16 currently attending Albion Military Academy, New Avalon

Commodore Striker is a father figure to most of the crew under his command with a special fatherly guidance extended to those closest to him. Much of this doting and kidding around is afforded to his squadron commanders though as he refuses for anyone but him to assign the wings and squadrons their respective duties. He is the kinda of man however that takes any loss of his pilots extremely hard and has even become know as an Ahab of sorts when it comes to ending this war. A dilemma that has earned him the respect and a little fear from the crew members that have served with him over the years for his somewhat reckless attitude of protecting his pilots, having on at least three separate occasions ordered and put his ship in harms way to save his wings. Something the Brass have highly frowned upon over the years and probably the main reason he hasn't made Admiral. However, with the formation of this new fleet and a rethinking to tactics he seemed obviously one of the men for the job.

Classified FSS record 158DB2 dated December 22 2579; Level 5 clearance access and above

Commodore Striker has on at least two separate occasions broken with the standard dogma of protecting his ship at all costs and broken formation sometimes convincing others to come with him and rushed head long into enemy formations to pull his squadrons out. This reckless abandonment to regulations has cost this navy countless lives of his crew and the crews of those that decided to join him on these daredevil maneuvers including the loss of the FSS Brandow an Aegis Class Cruiser with all hands aboard. Two Vincent Class Corvettes [the names have been blacked out for security purposes] were also heavily damaged and required months of repair due in part to the second incident involving this reckless style of combat. Finally also involved in this 2nd incident was the Commodore's last command, the Avatar Class Cruiser [name omitted for security purposes], currently reassigned to Spectre Fleet Alpha, where the current Captain says she's still trying to repair all the internal circuitry damage and has teams around the clock figuring out how to rewire the launch bay magnetics back to standard specifications. Apparently the tubes have been overcharged and have caused extensive damage to at least four of her fighters, resulting in the hospitalization of one pilot.

It is the recommendation of this board that Commodore Striker be reprimanded and removed from the core or reassigned and separated from any command of his son and the current pilots under his command.

Looks like the bulls are a bit short handed - do you want me to play them Nomad?
I'm perfectly happy with the Avatar if you want me as SLDF, or playing as the Taurians, both suit me just fine :D
Just let me know what you want me doing ;)

EDIT: I meant to say, I've been looking through the dropships typically used to support assaults and naval units, the ones I've found so far are:

The Achilles (http://www.sarna.net...lles_(DropShip)) for anti fighter (Able to match pace with aerospace fighters) and antidropship duties. Often used in the vanguard of planetary assaults - well armed and armoured.
The Pentagon (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Pentagon) for anti fighter duties - specifically designed for use with the Congress class and seems to have been a permanent assignment. Can match pace with most aerospace fighters and is heavily armed and armoured.
The Titan (http://www.sarna.net...itan_(Dropship)) Fighter carrier (1 wing, 18 fighters). Heavily armed and armoured - famed for carrying more guns than the Achilles despite being a 'mere carrier'.

These are the only naval offence ones available in the time period - but there are several military carriers like the Overlord or Fortress available. Most likely though, I assume those vessels would flee in a combat? Trying to get out of the way of the capitals carrying them and away from the capital guns that would easily slaughter them and their carried troops.

SLDF Bureau of Military Intelligence
Classified Report
Security Level 3
For your eyes only.

Boss,

This is the skinny on that Bull you wanted info on. Its all pretty dated, but its the best i can do.
I've added my personal thoughts to the bottom.

Name: Artem Tankian-Calderon
Rank: Marshal of the Fleet.
Date of Birth: 1/31/2554.
Age: 31
Home world: Born aboard the Jumpship Flannagan's Dreams
Current Duty Station: Unknown

Bio: Artem Tankian-Calderon, heir apparent to Tankian Shipping Inc and a close cousin of Taurian leader Marantha Calderon. The product of a political marriage Artem is smart, experienced, and patriotic. Joining the Tuarian Defense Force as soon as he could, family connections and a lifetime of experience aboard jump ships guaranteed a string of early promotions. At the outbreak of the war he pressed his own familes fleet of civilian drop and jumpships into military service. For his "selfless act of patriotism" he was brevetted up to Commodore, and tasked with the dirty job of delaying our assault into the Haydes Cluster. He made good use of his adhoc fleet consisting of hand me down frigates and kamakaze jumpships. He specifically targeted our troopships on successive occasion, we lost the 56th Royals and 10th Dragoons above Ridgebrook to his "fireships" (tugs loaded with enough explosives to level New Avalon) Between his success in ambushing our forces, and the decimated ranks of the Taurian Navy, Tankian-Calderon was given the rank of Marshal, however after that he falls completely off our grid.

Assesment: Tankian-Calderon is a patriot, and his crews are as fanatical as he is when it comes to the "wrongful invasion of their homeland by the Terran Horde". He has no qualms about martyring his own people if it provides an advantage. He's especially found of picking off our troopships and carriers, it might cost him the fight but what it does to our moral is worth it to him. I wouldn't put anything past him boss. I suggest finding him, pinning him down, and putting one between his eyes.

Let me know if you need more,
Blue.

Dimitry Vladimirovich Kutuzovsky, Captain of the Congress class frigate, the SLS Sparrowhawk. Kutuzovsky is a stern man, with little tolerance for those who do not live up to his standards. He is brutally uncompromising and harshly punishes failure, and his crew knows to follow his orders to a T. As such, the crew that Kutuzovsky serves with is a well oiled machine, even if they do respect and fear the man in equal measure. He strives for victory at any cost, and believes that the end justifies the means.
Kutuzovsky holds a deep resentment towards the Taurians, having lost a few close friends in the AFFS Fleet to the TDF in the Tentativa system. He has seen a lot of action against the Taurians, having participated in both wave one and two of the Wexworth invasions.

Hmmmm - I'm not sure rogue. I can't have you playing both sides yet as the scenario requires a certain element of mystery until the battle is fully engaged - then people can play on both sides.

Let me know what side you'd prefer to start on - but know that if you start on the taurian side I can't promise your avatar will still be there when you can swap over.

If you choose taurian I'll pm you with the order of battle and the available ships - and you can party with gammadin and I lol :-P

Well they give me different options really - the Avatar lets play a higher ranking officer, tank incoming fire, play 4 squadrons of aerospace fighters, be a big heavy slow thing with lots of a guns and swat enemy ships out of my sky.
The Pintos let me play an escort squadron, fast and deadly with a plethora of assorted weapons and a squad of fighters each - more tactically played, lots of ankle biting and general harassing. I'm kind of leaning towards that right now - we already have a few players in heavy cruisers or big flagship carriers etc, so playing the Pintos would be a nice contrast.
But if you want me playing the Avatar, I don't mind - but could I have a pair of Achilles if I do ;)?

EDIT: The more I try to think of stuff for the Avatar, the more I want to play the Pintos. Because apparently I'm awkward like that.
Can I play the Pintos? Can I? Can I please?
