that said if there is melee options at most i would want them to be secondary as much of the time vs shooting options for most units since while there are melee specialized mechs even them had shooting bits has the primary mode of attacks.
i would mostly want melee most of the time being a secondary option mostly use when it's the only option or when just blasting something isn't viable.
That said. i can understand and will tolerate no melee options if it happens again here as well since it's easier to code shooting things than to code stuff like throwing around a Locust by a Atlas

Punches, kicks, and melee weapons (namely hatchets!) Though I agree with Paladin ... I'd love to be able to smash through a building, grab a girder and go to town on the head of an opposing mech!

Its really a key part of the boardgame and the Battletech universe in general
Personally I'm not satisfied with the FAQ answer to melee.
I can appreciate that they think it will severely change gameplay but Terrain, LOS, elevation, Cityscape, etc... will play a major role in MWO.
I think it deserves at least a closed alpha/beta to see how melee really pans out.
So just as sniping with <insert your favourite weapon here> is part of "the way the game is"
Using and avoiding melee will just be the way it is...
Melee will create incredibly awesome epic moments for players!

Though, I'm kind of with the devs with the idea that it's probably something that shouldn't be in game. I know it sucks, but with a lot of urban or closer spaced environments, that Axeman becomes an executioner if you happen to stumble round the corner on it. That Atlas caves in your puny mech like it's swatting a fly, etc. That's a lot of damage unless there's biig drawbacks for punching.

It needs to be implemented.
I for one will relish it.
As for favored attack? Nothing says fear me like the raw power of a heavy or assault mechs kick!

I'm hoping DFA and Charge are options simply because they would actually happen.

Of course I also remember this one incident in the expansion when I was piloting the elemental and I ran at a enemy Atlas, jumped, collided with it's head, and exploded... my lance mate told me that it did somehow take away half his head armor.
