Why wouldnt we be able to play clans? I havent heard anything from the devs that even remotely indicates this. You would have a lot of pissed off players if clans are not playable, I have a feeling many people will only be playing IS to tide them over for when the clans appear and switch over. I know if I dont get a Vulture and Fenris, I will be fairly annoyed.

Which is EXACTLY why I do not want Clans to be a playable faction. 90% of the community will move there because everyone gets a massive E-***** for clans simply because they have the Madcat and extra powerful technology, and the IS and Merc factions will have no point to even bother fighting on the Metagame level.

If the Clans become playable I'll drop this game like all the garbage it will become.

Just wait till PGI reveals their insidious business plan Mk. 2, that requires players who want to pilot Clan MEchs to pay a monthly subscription fee of 15 bucks. While non-Clan tech remains F2P. Oh the future munchkin tears on the forums... (j/k) :P

More like you get the clan mech out of the store for 19.99 micro trans to find out its just the shell and each double heat sink is 1.99 and each ERPPC is 4.99
On a side note they have promised that this will not happen so you should not fear.

Though I do not recall seeing it in any previous game.

I would have the say the Hatchetman should not be included. Unless the game designers figure out a way to work in battlemech melee attacks. Then it would be pretty cool. Problem is, if you include mechs of this type without the melee option. It pretty much defeats the purpose of the design.

Unless they plan to make flamers really useful,
even trying to add them will be a headache, as
no one will want to pilot one. :)

I'd pilot that in a Solaris minute, man.
Dittos on the Banshee (even the stock 3E). Its always the ones you laugh at the most that make you cry the hardest.

I have no problems with pay a sub for Clan play :P Provided it has Zell reward rules like they are trying to do, works for me, not everyone jumps ship and the wallets stay with IS because they still get bigger things and do not have 'silly' rules

My vote would be any of the Star League 'Mechs forcibly included once FASA realized post-lawsuit they only had a handful of 'Mechs left they could slap on the cover of things.

TRO 3039? Ha!

NOOOOOOOO!!!! LOL

Seriously, the Champion or the Annihilator. I really don't really like to look or the variants for either of the designs (IMHO)

Or the Imp... it's like a giant Urbanmech, but faster! Ah, gotta love mobile trash cans that make R2D2 cry.

This is a great point! Maybe PGI could utilize supply control to adjust the pricing for the Clanners (in-game C-Bills would adjust to limit the number of Clan mechs being used by the community). This would parallel what would have happened (put your fantasy hat on) in the galaxy when the clans first appeared. Not everyone and their lancemate would have been able to purchase a clan design from the day of the invasion!!

Never thought I would put that economics minor to use.......

I was thinking of making this same thread, two mechs I love should not appear as they would be rather unfair if used, the Bane and the Heliopolis, the former mounts 10CUAC2s which is fine and maybe a tad underpowered in TT but give a person direct control of their firing and you are giving them the ability to slice apart just about any mech from a range they cannot respond, there is also the bane 3 variant, which mounts 8 Clan LRM-15s, which i feel speaks for itself.

Too late. I already claimed in the mech you want to pilot is this 100 ton beasty. And you forget the variant with the 4 Rotary 5s. If this beast appears, you either need to kill it ASAP or be piloting it, like me.
:P

I would have no problem paying a small fee to have a clan pilot. DDO does that with the more attractive races in game. No real benefits besides stat bumps(in both directions) and you look cool. I would not want to see clan mechs available to IS pilots however. Even in 3058, omnimechs are a rarity in the IS. They have been salvaged but taking a mech is only part of it. Its a completely different technology than what the IS uses and techs that understand it are even more rare and they work at a super premium rate. Having a normal mech tech work on an omnimech is comparable to a WW2 aircraft mechanic working on an F22 with no extra training.

As much as I liked the book Main Event and the sequal DRT, it likely couldnt have happened since they didnt even have techs and I dont know about you, but do you know many jet aircraft fighter pilots who know how to fix their engines? Try the same analogy with a mech pilot working on a fusion engine. Handing the tech a wrench or rivitting on a plate of armor, doable. Realinging a gyro or fixing a small nuclear power plant, not so much.

WHATS WRONG WITH THE ANNIHILATOR? :) its about the only mech that would keep me in the IS instead of making a clan character and hopefully if we have multi-characters I will have both :P

I'm sure whatever 'Mechs they do decide to put in the game will look excellent. I've been pleasently surprised by how well all of the redesigns are looking so far. UrbanMech? Mackie? Cyclops?

Bring them all on I say.

I made a mech variant of a wolfhound in mechwarrior4 that had all flamers and ran "VERY FAST", i would run around assault mechs and flame them. their heat would spike and shutdown.. :P
