Reign of Thunder looks completely terrible....Its more like an action RPG then a battle sim. Teriible..will fail or will only attract korean twitch gamers.

MW:T has already alienated the community by using a countdown to a non working website and a release message of a game sometime in "2012". The feedback on twitter was HARSH, let me tell you.

Solaris Mechtech etc are good people, and i think people will probably play that as well as MWO; two sides of the same coin and each satisfies a different niche.

But yeah, those other two games are fail in the extreme.

MWLL is still kicking and going strong... with a lot of things geared up for future release... mod going strong for 4 or 5 years, playable beta for 2

AS far as I am concerned, MWO will cannabilise players from MW4 Mercs and MWLL. Hawken and RoT will duke it out for arcade mech combat. MW tactics probably will have the smallest player base being a turn based game, and will share gametime with players of the first three.

Never heard of Reign of Thunder

I'm not surprised, it looks like a hot mess of crap. I see buzz on... two sites?

So ROT is as much a threat as Hawken ; p

Or less. Hawken looks very FPS, but pretty playable. RoT was just an immediate turn-off. :)

then we have a revival in all but name of Mechassualt in a new arcade actiony called Reign of Thunder.
meks are not even recognizable.

Good, yet another good reason to ignore it I guess. :)

i am more concerned with RoT pulling folks away from a proper BT game as it is so consoley.

What is this "console-y" thing you are talking about? Must be something not really relevant for PC gamers I guess, not sure if I ever heard of it... :)

And I have no problem with ppl sticking with RoT instead of MWO personally (might be different if I were standing in PGI's shoes, though). Should tone down the whinging of how MWO is not FPS-like enough potentially. Because you can point to the (virtual) door and tell them that RoT is that way... and MWO is not "just" a FPS. I think I can live with that bunch leaving... :)

End of nations is a 4th...alot like mechwarrior -the mechs. And by that I mean the artillery, tanks, choppers, etc...as those are all mechwarrior too.

MW:Online and Tactics are a different genre altogether, just sharing the same setting; I don't think there's going to be any overlap to worry about there.
And as for the RoThunder, well, they got mechs, and that's about where the similarities stop. Looks like any other generic shooter out there but with mech models instead of soldiers.
The industry seems to be set on action games and shooters need to be fast paced to be good, but this is not true, just look at world of tanks, one of the few that dared to think outside the box, and it took them far.

So wait, are we (MWO) IKEA or the old furniture place?

I hope the "old furniture place"! :)
At IKEA the outcome of your "kit" is sometimes awry, some sort of screws missing and from the other sort there are too many. :) :D

Forget that what they call "Hot Dogs"! They're are nothing compared of those you would get in a stadium or at a carnival! :)
Jeez, now you got me into wanting a Hot Dog! :D
With danish fried onions and tartar sauce. *mjamm*

I think you're right. A lot of people here seem not to understand that not all of the current/upcoming 'Mech games are of the same genre. There's going to be people who flock to the game type they like the most. Be it sim, action, or turn-based strategy. There will be bleed-over yes, but not too much I think.

With what I've seen from MWO, I'm pretty much sold on that. Tactics hasn't shown more than a splash page, and Reign of Thunder thoroughly exercised my gag reflex by making me projectile vomit my morning Bagel Egg and Cheese sammich all over the Kitchen.

If Tactics becomes some kind of F2P non browser-based Mech Commander-esque game, then I'll play it along with MWO, but nowhere near as much. I've already told my friends in current games "If you're not coming with me to MWO this summer, then we need to make sure we get our 'farewells' out of the way before then".... cause I'm gone!

I'll be honest, I wanted to try MW:TC, but the fact that it's an IOS game only is kind of a turn off (I don't want to touch anything by apple), but with this new Mechwarrior Tactics game, AND a turn-based game to boot, I think I'm going to be very pleased.

The only down side is that with all these games, the only one that even looks like it could potentially have a single-player campaign is Mechwarrior:TC. Kind of a downer that it's iOS, only.

I mean, sometimes the internet craps out, and there's even a few of us that actually *prefer* single player gaming - god forbid.

Also don't forget MechCommander Omnitech which although not a commercial project is going through a renaissance.
Within 6 months we should start to see it as a canon-ish RTS platform and a pretty improved beast from MS original product.

Yeah, I see this and agree with you. I think I would lump Hawken in with Black light: retribution.

Their breakfasts are like $2, it was a staple when I was out of work a few years back...and not too bad if you're in college and are low on funds.

I look at this whole thing like this:

There's a pie, you can cut it up into 8 pieces, or 3 pieces, which way gives you more pie?

Crappy game or not (and some of them will be poor) you're losing playerbase, if you're lucky, for the entire time they are playing that game and not playing this one.

if you're unlucky the crappy games will really suck and people will start poo-pooing the whole genre (and then yippee, back into the cellar Mechwarrior goes)...

;)

Absolutely. Garth's point is valid, but all three are entirely different.

MW:O - Core MechWarrior, 'nuff said.

Reign of Thunder - Mech Assault style, fast paced arcade action.

MechWarrior Tactics - Turn-based Strategy. Actually looks to be the digital incarnation of TT from what I've heard.
