It makes me wonder what varients they will support

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Commando

So....
the 2Dr is Jahad era, N/A
the 1B is possible I suppose
the 1D looks like your best long range varient option.
the 5S looks possible, its hard to tell the release date......streaks probably meaans 3055-58?

I like the look a lot, but the Commando is not really a scout mech in the traditional meaning. It is a good light urban fighting mech though, and can scout in a pinch. Compared to a Raven or C3/TAG mech it is kind of meh. Id rather ride a jenner with a C3 slave for scouting.

A light mech with 4 tones of armor and you say: "Cheap and packs a close-range punch" ;)

UGH...

THIS IS AWESOME

Insert awesome.jpg here.

I'm sure glad you told me what it is, because I wouldn't have guessed otherwise.

It looks sort of like a Longbow with PPCs which had its torso welded in a fixed position atop its pelvis; I would have been far more reticent to make any changes on an iconic 'Mech like that, much less redesign it entirely, to say the very least.
I'm not an Awesome fan, though - I like to have some weapons with a short recycle time to fall back on; I would like to see an Awesome variant with some more missile launchers or smaller lasers- so I'm pretty sure I can live with it.

It's funny, though, how the more popular 'Mechs (Dragon, Centurion, this Tactics version Awesome) have gotten such extensive redesigning wheareas the less popular ones like the Commando have been given a much subtler revision.

You'd think designers would feel more comfortable knowing that their work won't get them burned alive by displeased fans, but, then again, I suppose they could be fans themselves...
...Good times to be a 'Mech fan, anyway.

The artwork is great bit I still think of Laqutis of the borg with the red eye but back to tech specs it does not have jump jets and the 97.2 km/h is avg speed for a light and heavy shirt ranged ammo dependant load out

Misspelled "panic"... :/

Also, hoping for Dervish, Warhammer (they did say Unseens weren't a problem?), Panther, Awesome. ;)

Looks to much like a power armor with that monocle aiming sight (*** ?)
Otherwise the chassis and especialy the arms look really awes...ah Commando.

The Commando artwork is great!

....but you guys seem to be forgetting a SUPER important problem (those that are disappointed that their favorite mech was not chosen).

They have to pick mechs that balance with one another and each serve a purpose. Its not like they are launching with the entire catalog of 3049 and earlier mechs. That would be crazy.

Lets use the Panther for an example. Do I want to see it in game? YES. Would it work in the initial release of the game? Probably not. Sure, its got a PPC, but it has weak armor, slow as a heavy, and would be an easy kill for anyone who got a well placed shot on it as it tried to run away at a snails pace. It doesnt fit make sense to add it at launch when there will be a limited number of mechs initially available. A LOT of the mechs I see people ask for are like this.

Sure, we all have our favorites, but the mechs they have selected are good looking enough (now) and are, based on knows speeds, armament, etc, well rounded for a role with a game that may only launch with a dozen, 20, whatever mechs. They are being very smart with their selections.

Dont confuse the arguments "I WANT a _____ Mech" versus "I NEED a ____ Mech" to be a viable light, medium, heavy, assault, defender, scout, whatever.

Omg, everything about the new commando is perfect! Best redesign ever. 110% satisfied. Can die happy now.
Thanks FD!

WANT

I typically play as an assault class, but I would actually consider going as a scout in this one

PS the original artwork for the commando had 1 eye, and a silly metal beret looking thing on its freaking head. The redesigned face/head is awesome.

Thanks for the new art and the writeup, guys. I like the look of the arm-mounted weapons. They look integrated with the rest of the 'mech's design. The rest of the Commando looks great as well.

I like the Electronics look in the Head section. Looks way more Machine than the Sarna version. Very much BattleMech-esque. And @97kph will very difficult to target and hit consistently.

I am 2 for 2 with naming the Commando since last Wednesday. ;)

This is a good looking reworking of the Commando. I notice its head isn't sunken into the torso like an earlier reveal.

I bet it still can't take 4 medium lasers to the CT.
