It almost looks like a mini-Atlas so I like it a lot. :)

I never used the SRM6 on that 'mech because I didn't want to waste the ammo. Got in to an Awesome and stayed with it after.

Awesomes are are just too awesome. Once double heatsinks come into play it's going to be extremely awesome.

Sorry, in all that awe about the Mech, I forgot about that little, inspiring short story - Thanks for the excellent writing!

So are there other stories to go with the other revealed mechs?

Props to whoever wrote the article. It provided a taste of story and game play: very nice. Also, i love FD's artwork; necks on mechs are for hippies.

So the deleted thread on the forums saying "Mech #7 is the Commando" was correct.
We must all be wary of the MWO secret police. Kudos to the spy getting that information 48 hours ahead of time.

First it was more like 12 hours before hand, second it was no spy, it was a mistake on their part and it was their secret police who enacted Clan like justice. :)

Although I've already written my praise to redesign, I have to say I'm a bit confused with the story supporting the concept art.
While spotting in MWO setting is hugely important, I'm not sure about firing part. Why would Commando open fire in the first place? It could silently spot an enemy and wait for the time when they are damaged and disoriented, then show up and finish them with SRM. Commando is not the mech to start battles, its role is to finish them. Wide spread of unprecise SRM missiles is designed to find holes in the already beaten mechs' armor and broaden them to get underneath and bring nasty criticals on inner structure. Starting battle with SRM salvos means a waste of ammunition as it will hardly punch armor significantly anywhere and will just spread pretty little damage all over many parts of the enemy mech. And if for some reason it was so necessary to open fire on Hunchie, it would make sense to start with silently aimed m-laser to the back to make a weak point in the enemy's armor, and then salvo SRMs in hope that some of them would lay near the laser hit point. And that - could be dangerous, unlike what Commando's pilot did in the story. The girl in the story was trained badly. The end of the story makes it even more clear)

A great looking little 'mech, and since the original wasn't exactly ugly, it manages to stay very true to the original.

Glad to see the Commando join the ranks of MWO, even though it's very Steiner-specific. Still, we've already got two drac 'mechs on the list, so I figure there's room for some Blue.

...But I have to admit, I'm surprised there aren't more non-faction-specific designs cropping up, here. Quickdraw, Grasshopper, Stalker...

The commando pilot should have remained as a Spectrrreee.

In all honesty, the Commando is not a scout 'mech, but rather a striker - something that is supposed to hit hard and fast, and then flee before anyone can respond.

But the Jenner fills this same role. It turns out that MWO has yet to include any true scout 'mechs, yet.

If we see any Spiders, Cicadas, or Assassins, however, this trend will change.

Hmm, I don't know about that. The Commando might make a good fast-strike 'Mech, but it was designed for recon/scouting in mind:

Quote

The Commando was commissioned in 2463 to be built by Coventry Metal Works (then known as Coventry Defense Conglomerate) as the Lyran Commonwealth's first reconnaissance BattleMech, but it is also used for close-range support due to its firepower. It carries four tons of armor, but against anything other than other light 'Mechs the difference in the amount of armor is negligible.[2]
It is often claimed that the Commando was designed as a competitor with both the popular Wasp and Stinger light 'Mechs, but these were in fact only developed some years later (in 2471 and 2479, respectively).
The Commando is mainly in Lyran use, while the COM-2D is also produced in the Taurian Concordat and the Marian Hegemony deploys the COM-4H. [3]

A Commando has plenty of firepower to open up the back of a Hunchback - while well-armored for their size they're very heavily biased towards frontal armor. And hitting one had the effect of bringing the entire enemy formation to a halt, as they tried to identify and respond a ground-based threat, leaving themselves open to bombardment in the process.

The Commando is considered a scout and light striker, but it isn't a single-purpose recond vehicle in the way something like an Ostscout or a Locust is. The Jenner is superior in speed, making it better for recon roles, but it still has the firepower to multitask. I'll be curious to see if they add any of the minimally armed, purely recon designs to this game - it sounds like they'll have a role to play in Role Warfare, but I'm not sure players will like piloting them much, especially is something like a Raven becomes available. :)

Actually alot of people will probably favour the more capable scout designs, even going as far as to use mediums as scouts- look at world of tanks, on the russian server the main scout tank is the IS-7, which is a tier 10 heavy.

Striking a blow to the rear of the hunchback is fine, as it potentially cripples the hunchback, and the commando bugs out immediatly anyway.
