Heh, he ignore listed me for disagreeing with him and then posts about it? Someone's jimmies are easily rustled.

Anyway, do you guys know of Squeedge? She does the album covers for Lapfox, while the music is hardly my thing I'm a big fan of her stuff and have an obsession with her four shark characters.

Spoiler

I still wish I knew what art system she uses... Or any for that matter as I am not sure which one to get for my computer.

It's a preference thing, I like to use gimp personally. If your unsure it's best to start with the free programs and only pay for a program if your unsatisfied with the free I suppose

Kinda the reason why I was asking. Alrighty then, I guess I will try gimp first and see where that goes.

What's got you so defensive? If you think someone's saying something they shouldn't be, report them and led the admins deal with it instead of trying to run people out of the thread.

Why hello there.

The next genius to complain about seeing furry images inside a furry thread will receive a warning, and then a temp. ban. There's no mystery here, we all know exactly the topic at hand.

I wasn't complaining about them being posted, I was just saying I'm not keen on fursuits, it wasn't intended to offend anyone but that seemed to happen anyway

This. There's a fork of gimp called gimpshop, which behaves more like photo-/paintshop: http://gimpshop.com/
Also, for vector graphics I'd recommend inkscape, which is also open source: http://inkscape.org/

I don't have any experience with tablets, but I hear a lot of people recommend wacom tablets.
(Personally, I draw on traditional media and then scan stuff in.)

Anyway, back on topic.
I'll just mention the protomechs, because they're the closest canon BT will ever get to anthropomorphic animal designs.

Back on topic, after reading through most of the posts.

I am honestly surprised this thread lasted as long as it did.

In the interest of fairness, I feel I should shed some light to the furries seeing as I am utterly neutral towards all. Half the reason you furry groups attract so many haters ends up being twofold: the fandom in and of itself is largely populated by disgusting people. **** addicts who love to make **** of half-animal half-human things. Now, don't get me wrong: people can enjoy ****, and the way I see it if it is female in shape and function, who cares if it has some fur too?

The inherent problem is that the furry fandom is, at the very least, 85% ****. As if the furry fandom is nothing more than a bunch of perverts with an unusual fetish.

The way I see it, it would be far safer to simply appreciate anthropomorphic art rather than openly associate with a fandom that has long-since fallen apart.

The second part of the reason is probably my favorite, seeing as I am occasionally guilty of trolling here and there (just not on these boards, I love MW too much to even troll on board RELATED to the damn thing), the furry fandom is so horribly easily trollable (and hateable) because of the ever-present persecution complex. Many furries, if they'd shut their yap for long enough, would realize they AREN'T as hated as they would love to be seen. If they would act like normal people (by that, I mean stop acting holier-than-thou, among other dominant traits of theirs) they would get along fine.

Let me elaborate on the 'normalcy' part for a sec, for completionists sake: Those people who are HEAVILY into BDSM don't go around advertising it. The people who are into such things keep it to themselves and a select few people/groups who accept and enjoy such things. Because of this, they are known as the PEOPLE first, and BDSM lovers SECOND. For that reason alone, we can fully accept and appreciate the group of people who love BDSM.

Furries are the utter opposite of that example: the furry fandom is so hell-bent on their holier-than-thou attitudes that the first thing they do as PEOPLE is announce their fetishes to the world and try to ram their fetish down other's throats. This contributes to the hate.

Now that that is out of the way, let me ACTUALLY get on topic again: Seeing furries in the BattleTech universe isn't something new to me. I play with many many people, some who are furries (and I love them to death because they understand the concepts I have outlined above), so a furry in MY games is hardly a new idea. That in mind, if the furry FANDOM decides to show up, I guarantee I won't be joining their clans/battalions, and I'll do what I can to stay away from their games. Fun as they are to troll, I'm not going to ruin this magnificent universe with flaming and ill-spouted nonsense. This BattleTech universe is a fragile thing these days. Not many people are interested compared to big-name titles, so if anything the people who enjoy the 100-ton 'Mech-on-'Mech action should be supporting each other and showing other communities precisely WHY ours rocks and theirs doesn't.

...okay, so that last bit sounded a little biased. Not my fault BattleTech is absolute win.

Feel free to let me know how you guys feel about my thoughts, I'm an open-minded person. A debate is always a pleasant thing, helps to let me see other views on a given situation.

EDIT: I see that the particular word has been bleeped out. Still, anyone who has ever seen the furry fandom can guess what the four-letter word IS. XD

They have fur in all the right places to be East German former Olympic stars, thumbs up! Amazing they'd hold still long enough to shave what you did!

To me it does not matter, on two levels.

1. In a real world sense, furs are not a problem. I view you as any other person and if you can cover my back when I'm piloting an Assault, I'll make sure you don't get picked on by LRM's. We all are human (at least to me) and we all bleed red blood (last I checked). Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and ways of life. As long as your not a serial killer or something there is really nothing you can do to phase me...

2 In a story sense, I don't see an issue either. I have a few fur friends (scalies too) and from what they have told me in other games makes sense here. Seats can be adjusted, cockpits modified and User-interface's optimized for those not of human nature in my opinion. In truth I don't see the issue here. As said, I don't care if your a human, dragon, wolf, whatever, just shut up, stop running around in the open with Active Radar, and cover my flanks please. I am pretty sure we can all get alone great then :)

On a plus note I DO agree with fur and Mech Cockpits being a problem. You may want to consider a shave or at the very least a modified coolant vest. Or a hulu girl to distract you from the fact your being cooked alive. <(^^,)>

Gentlemen, regardless of my personal opinion on furries, I would like to remind you of one Roy Calbeck, who managed to get some crappy fiction about his Mary Sue unicorn character into one of the old noncanon rags--I don't think it was BattleTechnology, but whatever, it's an old apocryphal magazine. This was back when BT canon had very, very poor quality/consistency assurance, so it managed to slip in unnoticed for a number of years during all the license shuffling, et cetera, before someone at FASA suddenly saw this story about an overweight unicorn man single-handedly refinancing a battalion or something of the Eridani Light Horse and immediately stamped it "apocryphal", which really, REALLY incensed Calbeck. He took it to court and instead of suing for damages or to have the story reinstated or whatever, he sued for possession of the ENTIRE BATTLETECH FRANCHISE.

You obviously know the outcome of this, but from my understanding, this is one of the events that called our old ... acquaintances... Harmony Gold's attention to BattleTech and its Unseen mechs. Please don't quote me on that, I know it was a compound of things, but that's my understanding as told by a reliable source.

On a more humorous note, I once was linked a furry *********** picture of a Mechwarrior totally pounding some astech dude on an ammo crate in the mech bay with a PTR-4D in the background. Fnar fnar.

tl;dr: Some angry man still is on the internet claiming that his white fat unicorn character is "the only canon furry in Battletech". No, seriously.

EDIT: Please don't take this as a sign of my intolerance. It'd be foolish on my part--I'm a homosexual in the Deep South--and I'm friends with, like, dozens of furries.
EDIT2: The Wolfhound WLF-2X is a damn good looking mech and I hope Flyingdebris takes cues from its design for the Wolfhound in this, should one show up(why wouldn't it? It's a terrific light for line combat).
FINAL EDIT: Hey, Calbeck! I'm calling you out! I know you're here on this board. When MWO drops I challenge you to a Trial of Grievance or some other Clanner nonsense. One on one, equal tonnage or roughly equal battle value. If I win, you have to draw your dumb unicorn emerging from a broken, battered vehicle--probably that Pegasus hovertank you favor--with a white flag. If you win, I will capitulate and draw you a picture of your dumb unicorn with his foot atop a fallen 'Mech, with "ROY CALBECK: THAT ONE CANON BATTLETECH FURRY" as a caption.

I don't have a problem with furries.

I have a problem with fandoms cross-pollinating. Mostly because I've never seen anything actually decent come out of such pairings. I don't want Space Marines in my BattleTech, I don't want Jedi, Furries, Ponies, Warcasters, Vampires, etc.

I just want BattleTech.

I wish FD would incorporate more anthropomorphic characters into the concept art. Encourage tolerance and understanding!

haha pwned

on a more serious note, does your strange fetish really need to be in the game? i mean its battle tech universe, let it alone and enjoy it for what it is, save the furry stuff for the cons and other event held for it? (they really do have cons and events for it, i googled it)

The furries have arrived, oh well, I guess it was bound to happen exentually....man your mech's buys and prepare for the furrmagadon...

EDIT: I'm a libertarian, so if you want marry your gay lover, or your horse, or pet dog, or 2, 3, 4 different women, go dancing around in a fur suit, etc go ahead, whatever floats your boat.

But I hope the OP's question was not serious? Furries do not belong in Battletech; if some MWO players who happen to also be members of the fandom want to join the MWO community, awesome, the more players the better, but I really do not want to see an entire lance of pink mech's with furry art on them.....for me it would detract from the immersion.
