The Jenner is your classic run, jump, strike light mek. Especially the 7F variant, no SRM and more armour?
The Atlas is your typical big ugly assault. It announces that the game will go a lot longer and the ground rumbles with their weight. But the Atlas is just a bully and like all bullies, they look tough, but punch like pansies.
The Atlas mounts the largest SRM, LRM and AC available, but only has 4 medium lasers. It hits hard, but not hard enough except at short range. Not enough ammo for the LRM or the AC. Yes it strikes fear from its size and presence, but I fear an Awesome over an Atlas any day in the week.
I pick the Jenner of the two, even if I prefer the heavy and assaults classes.

As for the Atlas yes I have piloted many of them.
If I had the choice I would take the Jenner, I like being fast and causing all kinds or havok on the battlefield. With the Atlas you just kind of trot along scaring people and hoping someone gets close enough for you to obliterate...

*cough* Realy? ... You never played TT right? Ok let me explain ....
You drive your big monster of an Atlas .... 304 Points of Armor (thats max. it can't get any thicker than that), 4 Medium Lasers 1 AC/20, 1 LRM 20 and 1 SRM 6 ..... so your effective Range is about 270 Meters, except your LRM with 630 Meters and you have only 12 shots with it .... and a top speed of roundabout 50kmph (running)
Now I come along in my .... what will I take ..... nothing too fancy ......
Cicada 3C (40 Tons) maybe? I can walk faster backwards then you can run, hitting me at max distance is nearly impossible and I have a PPC with unlimited shots ......
or a Crab 20 (50 Tons) just as fast walking backwards as you, as easy to hit as the cicada and 2 Large Lasers with unlimited shots ....
or hell what about an UrbanMech R60L (30Tons) as slow as you are but able to Jump, and I have an AC/20 too, with which I will tear you a new one in Urban combat without beeing hit at all ....
well I could just use the Jenner (as this is an Atlas vs. Jenner Post) ... I can walk faster then you can run, I can Jump, and given enough time and patience will just be as effective as the afore mentioned Urbie.
I rest my case ....anyone else like to comment?
PS: NThis is not meant as a personal attack against you just stating (and explaining) the fact that in Battletech and Wechwarrior bigger is not always better. So sorry if you feel attacked it was not meant as such.

*Cough, cough, cough* really are you serious? lol Let me explain, boxing. A good heavyweight will beat a good light weight. Tell me an experienced light Jenner will beat an expierience assualt Atlas in a battle? Yeah right, tell me what you are smoking.

I have to disagree with this. Are you saying that Bruce Lee would lose to Mike Tyson?
"Oh but they aren't even the same discipline"
Well, neither are an Atlas or a Jenner. One is a Heavy ASSAULT mech and one is not; just as one is a martial artist and one throws punches in excess of 1200psi. Both come from different disciplines and both are experienced, skilled combatants.
I think that on "any given Sunday" anything can happen. I also think that bigger isn't always better.
