I am wondering since they have a elite standing in the skill tree, will this mean once all elite mods are opened that person can get some lost-tech? I am not sure how i would feel about this if that is how they handle it. It could work though as long as it doesn't give you to much of a advantage.

Actually, everyone's got a copy. Even us Draconians. Of course we got a boost from some of the stuff Comstar gave us during the war of '39...

File edited for clarity.

I hope this is a string of thought on possibly discovering another or more memory cores...

Most likely it will only be acquired as very rare salvage, or as "reputation" gear once you get high enough rank in your chosen house.

I also saw that bit about salvage, veeeeery interesting..also, the mention of many c-bills could mean that los-tech could be available to those with enough of said c-bills AND of a high enough level..hence the elite of the elite
so if max lvl cap is say 50..maybe lvl 50s could get it following completion of specific house or regiment missions as long as they can afford it?
I'm still working my way through posts and topics so if some of these things have been discussed, please forgive

im SO VERY STOKED about this game, been wanting another Mech game for a long time..i still reread the old books, not the newer stuff..only the older stuff..but BRING ON THE GAME

2 things I took out of the opening post:
1) We all start with "3025" tech,so the Mech-Lab won't be a complete maniac's playground. Like it.
2) The 3 variants we get to play with of each chassis at the start are all going to be "3025" tech. Interesting. <_<

It is good that lostech will stay lost for a while. The BT universe is founded on the classic weapons systems. Learning to deal with the restictions imparted by these "old" systems will build the skills necessary to handle any weapons system.
It is easy to load a mech up with ER systems, freezers and targeting computers and blast away. It is not so easy when you have 2 old-school PPCs,15 heat sinks and a very angry assualt mech bearing down on you. The older systems require the use of patience, management and shot placement to be effective. In short, SKILL. This games looks headed toward a truly skill based combat system not an arms race (although no combat, real or virtual, is anything but). Skill and teamwork will be needed when the clans make their appearance. Being restricted to the older tech systems will help build these virtues so we have a chance agianst the invaders. Remeber that the VC and the Mujihainden (however you spell it) showed that high tech is not always the answer.

In the TT version, all new and old tech weapons have the same playability. A balance between heat, weight, range, and mechanical reliability. The video game tried to do its best at carrying them over, but playability got in the way. No one wants an AC that, once it jams, is useless until you get it serviced. There is no way to concentrate damage on pulse lasers to a single hit location while still showing that they are pulse lasers. Taking that into account, all weapon systems really are created equal.

Beautiful! I have seen too many people bragging about their Atlas with their Gauss rifle and what not. The Devastator yes, it existed earlier then 3050, was NOT MADE! The best you had on it was either PPCs or Autocannons. That big mound of metal walked off the production line in 3033. And it had this....
DVS-1D - The low-tech version of the Devastator, the 1D used a standard engine, so components had to be downgraded. The Gauss Rifles became Autocannon/10s and the PPCs were replaced with Large Lasers. One ton of armor was removed, while fifteen single heat sinks strained to keep the 'Mech's heat under control. The vast majority of these that were produced were upgraded by the late 3060s, leaving most 1Ds in the hands of the Taurian Concordat. BV (1.0) = 1,402, BV (2.0) = 1,858[5]

It was not until 3044 that a Devastator appeared that was constructed using the intended technologies (DVS-2); this version was finally put in production by 3048.

And everyone knows that when something hits the production line, it's not given to everyone. You would have to take over that specific world when the mech is being make, steal a prototype, and MAYBE later, get money to upgrade it....

This is what i dont get. You dont need all that fancy lost tech to rule the battle feild. As I've said before it take skill to win battles not fancy tech. All the fancy tech in the world wolnt help a crappy pilot win on the battle feild. Its just goingto make him a target for the salvage his mech will bring.

But it will let skilled players dominate over those who don't have it.

Just sounds like someone needs better financing advice :) Best units gets best equipment? Well duh, I'm sure most mercs aren't going to sit on their hands and wait for some magic pot of gold. I'm not, I'll go on my missions/contracts and try to complete them as quickly and efficiently as possible. REPAIR AND RELOADs cost cbills! Sure some Snake's gonna try to call me out for so stupid bushido duel. Knock down brawls with AC20s to the face are great for holovids, but you know what, that ain't my style.

Get in, snag/smash the target, get out. No fuss, no muss :D
