It is what it is. Is it worth 64 posts on the subject when it's been covered in other forums? I think the point has been made. Boy, you're not heeding the friendly advice that was given you. Posted Image No more breadcrumbs for you Posted Image

Did I say ban them? no I asked for people not to indulge clans based on internet memes because they spoil peoples immersion in the BT universe.
Obtuse? well I find people who say "you mad bro?" all the time and going on about ponies obtuse.

I shall not troll.. I said my piece and yes sir, I found your desire to quarter a select few for being diverse, and impacting the "immersion" of the game to be obtuse. I did not suggest that you wanted them banned.. your post is up there to be read and many have. Your choice to be selective is your own and I wouldn't suggest in any situation that anyone should take your opinion with more or less sincerity or strip you of it, in fact you can wear it like a badge, and will...

My counterpoint is not that your opinion or desire is wrong, it is that with 60000 people on the boards, a tiny percentage is unlikely to effect the immersion you seek... and you have a choice. Calling out to everyone to "not play with those other kids" makes you sound well scared... not mad, worried their going to break the game with cartoon ponies. How about, if you wanted to really engage people who like you , and I, want that immersion into a dark and damaged universe you put together a "No Fluff" guild. Don't strip others of their fun, regardless of how "blissful" (bliss= ignorance) it is. Just engage people with like minds to yours and even my own.

As I said, I find the silliness of "pony expressionism" exactly that.. silly, I don't buy into it, its definitely not my thing, and I would never promote it. But at the same time I don't waste time trying to get their content stripped away from them by public outcry either, or grab canon-nazis to revolt against their fun. The reason being, our regiment drives around in RED mechs.. the base color of the shade Pink. I know, canon says we drive RED mechs, but what if someone more hardcore than yourself comes by and starts saying we cant drive RED mechs.. its a shade of PINK! Canon or not?

That guy would be screwing with my immersion... and I won't have that. Since I side with you in your disdain for the context of "furry pony " immersion I won't say I disagree with your desire to enjoy the hard battletech worlds we both know and love, they are brutal and characterized by loss and pain. But your statements lead to predisposing people towards the distraction of prejudice, and that sir... breaks my immersion much more so than a pastel colored atlas on the battlefield wearing a unicorn Eridani Lighthorse Banner.

Obtuse sir..a. (statements) Lacking quickness of perception or intellect.

That definition is tape measure, it is cautionary in that, while your right in your desires to exclude them from your game to enhance your immersion, you should consider that that spreading a message of such context to 60000+ other people to exclude by discretion those ... silly folk, from the game, while not banning them, will likely draw a few detractors from your desire to see them excluded in prejudice by the rest of the players. I won't give you the benefit of ignorance, you made the statement, and "mad bro" is such an excuse. You want it your way, do something to build your friends and clans and what have you, your way, around you. Suggesting to others that they shouldn't play with those kids on the playground, just makes your concerns seem really shallow, without forethought and without considering the impact to the rest of us down the line.

Morgana is right.. no more breadcrumbs for you, I fear I have given you a loaf already, but not one bite more.

Well put and I stand down "a little" from my OP and your right I know to get the gaming experience I want I must find a clan of like minded people.
Iam just sick of playing say a fantasy game for example and being teamed up with a guy called "Haxx0r12leet".
Yup Iam being selfish I really don't want to see certain things in game because they are rammed down our throats whenever we turn on the internet.
Anyhow hope we haven't fallen out .
But man I really hate those ponys lol :)

If memes have taught us anything, this game HAS TO HAVE both text and voice-based muting. Even better if it remembered player mute states.

No not at all.. Like I said.. what they do ain't for me man. We effort to keep Mature players in our Regiment, as our internal choice. As much as anyone I ignore the pony stuff on the boards and the internet in general. Its irritating and annoying to many people. My hope is that things like that will sort themselves out without the rest of us degrading into bickering and instead focusing on our own fun.

The "pastels" are some of the most obnoxious and obstinate groups on the internet IMHO. I just want to be sure that when its approached, even in disdain, we retain some perspective as insurance against harming the whole while trying to fix the minor concern we perceive. I salute your desire to protect what 95% of us want from this game world and experience. Just use the proper tools and language for the task and use them in a constructive way.

No harm, not mad, just wanted to be certain I was absolutely clear. I hope we can all find an experience we can enjoy, maybe if we take the time to allow some understanding of the "pony brigade" to be felt, they will come some way back with maturity, and tame it down a piece.

I doubt, but i do sincerely hope.

To the Opening Post:

Please keep in mind that references to contemporary culture has a long history in Battletech. We're talking about a game that has, in canon, a Merc company like Team Banzai. Or how a certain famous Mechwarrior is practically a clone of a marvel comic's super hero. And then there's Cranston Snord's Irregulars, whose only existence in my mind was to justify references to late 20th century culture in the Battletech Universe.

So I have no problems with units like the Eridani Light Poly existing in the MWO universe. There's already a precedent for it.

As much as I dislike ponies, I have to agree, a sprinkling of pop-culture references is part of BT lore.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just another bunch of cracked mercenaries.

I think people interested in memes just do so because they desire attention. It's like a drama queen who always wants to be the center of attention. This is not similar to what guys were doing by painting pinups on their war machines. That's more of a tradition than a meme. I can see people putting pinups on Mechs, and it would actually be seen as the continuation of a tradition.

I can see people putting ponies on their Mechs, but it would just be seen as nothing more than "Look at me, I'm trying to be unique, even though I don't realize that since this IS a meme, hundreds if not thousands are doing exactly what I am just for the sake of getting attention."

My disdain for meme stems from the association of it coming from generations that can't "tone it down" or be serious, unique or simply just not follow broad social trend. Meme's are like Family Guy; the HELL if I know why it could ever be as popular as it is, but there's no denying that it is; I just don't understand why.

This proves my point.

Not funny at all (cause it's the same joke millions before you used)
It also shows that you only used it to draw attention to yourself (like a drama queen)
The use of this doesn't show any individuality. Instead, it says "I'm not witty enough to come up with my own jokes, so hopefully I can use one that was heard a billion times and you might not have heard it"

Not trying to be a **** about it, just saying. (Also, push comes to shove, what you did here is what was expected. When you're around as many lemmings as I've seen, you can actually start predicting their behavior, and a meme like this was already 'in the books') :)

By this I mean If we are allowed to design our clan symbol, make clan names lets leave out all the latest internet memes.
By this I include ponys, awesome face etc.
I want this game to look and feel like the BT world so if you have a clan and you want to have an alliance with another clan I urge you to ignore the clans which are not in line with the background of the battletech universe.
I can think of nothing worse than seeing a mech with a pony on..

Ouch. I never thought I'd see a lemming so stupid that they'd f*ck up a meme. Congrats! (No offense, what little wit it took to actually do the meme correctly was FAR beyond the scope of your ability. For what it's worth, that was a good try)
