Maybe, maybe not. As has been pointed out, many people thought that it would be the next 'Mech - but we got the Flea instead for some reason.

Well the magazine was supposed to hit newsstands on the 9th, but the people with subscriptions got theirs much earlier, the leak hit the forums, then they released Mech 16. There was a ask the devs where they basically said they released 16 because 17(the original 16) didn't go down as planned.

From http://mwomercs.com/...evs-19-answers/

Q: Second question: If Battlemech 16 was supposed to be saved for something special why was it just randomly announced? [Butane9000]
A: The Flea is our official 16th Mech. 'A Mech' had a special reveal, but BattleMech 17 will be something different again. [Garth]

and...

Q: Since we've all seen the picture, and the NDA is gone, can you guys comment on what Highlander variants might be added? [Norris J Packard]
A: I can only confirm the HGN 732, sadly. [Garth]

It might be not the #17 mech. Heck, it could even not be the #37 mech. it could be just an awesome Iglesias' mech drawing that they put in the magazine with no plans to be added in the next years.

He can't confirm the other variants because they are not produced in the current timeline.
I doubt the devs will add a mech with 1 variant.

If I'm remembering correctly, the -732 didn't reenter production until 3057...somewhat outside of the current timeline, but the original production started in 2592. The -733 would also be available, probably more so than the -732 because it used tech available to the Successor States (swapped the Gauss for an AC/10 and additional armor). There was also the -732b, the SLDF Royal variant. Also, according to the Master Unit List, there are period-proper -733c and -733p variants, although I am unaware of the specfics of those models.

According to TRO: 3039, the 733 was built from the end of the 2nd Succession War until 4th Succession War. Refits to the 733 (i.e. 732) were produced starting in the mid-3030's. Full production began again in 3057. The 733C (AC/20) and 733P (PPC) should be available right away since they have no advanced tech.

Guess that answers a bit of the question, too.

You would be correct, the only date that was sticking in my head was the 3057 production restart, completely forgot the mid-30's refits, thanks for the catch on that one.

It amazing you guys quibble over dates of a fictional story. I want more mechs and I could care less about the fictional timeline. And when I say more mechs I mean big boy mechs with direct fire payloads not some sissy light scouts or missile boats.

Next mech is Highlander followed by an unidentifiable pile of scrap that was the victim of a Highlander Burial.

As the Devs are sticking to the fictional timeline for the game, maybe you should get into it a little more?

Quibble? tsk tsk... I was just adding relevant information that I'd looked up and posted to one of the last Highlander threads. Why try to crank up the drama?
