I, too was a Battlemaster fan, then mine took an Arrow IV to the knee.

They had to take it out of the game due to legal issues. Far as I am concerned, every mech in the 3025 book is a common mech unless stated (they said LAMS are rare, so I have no problem what-so-ever with their removal... they did a poor job with them anyways).

That does make sense. Their temporary removal would make them rarer in the fiction and games. Well then I hope this is a more common sight, because I would love to get my hands on one.

Fugly, and would rather take a Banshee 3S loadout-wise.

Not really interested in the Dougram mech myself but the redesign looked a lot like it and has been on a few Battletech product covers recently. In fact it's in the logo... so it would make sense to include it in a way.

My experience with Battlemasters has always been that these things are harder than @#$% to kill. Lets face it, they don't die easily. Being able to to march through a hail of fire to get into your opponents face has got to be a bit demoralizing. So, while I'm all for it being in the game, I'm not exactly all for facing one down across the battlefield either.

Yep. Wanting is definitely a two edged sword.

I do like this mech. It is as fast as most heavy mechs, with better armor, and a decent weapons package. I would like to see this mech in game.

The speed (relatively speaking) makes it a nice assault and along with the armor makes it able to work in close and use those close range weapons. Those SRMs can be a nasty surprise if they breach the armor.

I have always been partial to the Atlas or the old Warhammer. All you old school players on board remember the old Warhammer ;)

It is a Unseen and is in the 3025 TRO, so it is actually a standard mech of the time. The only reason we will not see it is if they do not do Unseen. Personally, I think they /are/ doing Unseen, but I do not know if they have all of the licenses for all the different mechs that FASA ripped off.

I just want to note that FASA thought they had properly licensed the unseen mechs, so it wasn't a 'rip off'.

Great mech, quick and solid for the size and I always had one soak a lot of damage even if it didn't kill a lot.

Pre-Invasion, the BattleMaster is a monster, but definitely had heat-issues. I generally fielded the -1S though, ridiculous design. Drops the PPC and SRM-6, replaces 'em with an LRM-15, LRM-5, dual SRM-2's and a pair of heat-sinks. That's a whole lot of hurt at any range. Until it runs out of ammo, then you're humped.

I'd love to see FD's take on one. The Battlemaster has always been one of my favorites, although I do agree with the sentiment that the extensive amount of glass on its cockpit poses a bit of a problem. But there are a lot of mechs that share that weakness.

I was a classic Battletech player and lost interest with the clans and the game changes. While i respected the battlemaster, I always enjoyed playing a Thunderbolt or a Crusader. For heavy mechs, they could give an assault mech a run for their money.

It's not bad mech, it has excellent armour, a good heat curve, excellent speed for an assault mech. Other assaults may have more firepower but the overall package is nice.

I think is is the quintessential command mech as opposed to a classic assault mech but I have never really used on the tabletop (I don't generally use assault mechs that much and when I do it's generally one of the 80 tonners).

theres nothing wrong with the atlas master and commander loadout for a command assualt mech with fire support capability!

It's a classic design. It's got great speed for an assault mech. It's an old design, and generally undergunned compared to newer designs. However, it's certainly not worthless, at least not in a TT setting, but since the initial game will not include tanks, helicopters, or infantry I'm not really sure how useful a design with machine guns will be (unless they significantly increase the damage potential of machine guns enough to make them a threat to light mechs). Anyway, it's not my favorite mech, but its pretty good, especially considering its venerable age.

I would personally prefer a Victor, Awesome, Devestator, or Atlas. Or a Sagittaire once it comes off the production lines.

Edit: I also have a soft-spot for the Crockett. Would love to see flyingdebris re-work the Crockett's design so it doesn't look so much like...well...if I posted what it looked like I'd get in trouble.

its not the mech i would want to start in... but i would LOVE for the "Thug" to make it into the game some time.. i think thats another OLD design that could use some modern art lovin.

If I recall correctly the Battlemaster's damage output relative to its tonnage is really weak, but it has above average speed, and some of the best command computers available. It'd be the 'Mech which commanders would like to use I guess, though it won't be able to survive going toe-to-toe with an Atlas.

It has a special role to play, I'd like to see it ingame if possible as well.

EDIT: As this thread is about the Battlemaster, kindly refrain on speculating on other 'Mechs that have nothing to do with it. You can create threads about those if you want. Thanks.

Personally I loved the Battlemaster. Sure it only had a PPC, but in city fighting that thing was pretty sick. Machine Guns for infantry (Or heck, heatless 2 damage to another mech before you punch and kick) and heavy armor with solid 4/6 movement it could keep up with hunchbacks or the like. Nothing like seeing a phoenix hawk get mugged by a battlemaster that picked up another mech's arm or leg (Cuz it has HANDS) and goes around whapping mechs in the head/torso for 17 damage a swing... and blasting for 20 points of medium laser damage, and up to 12 points SRM 6 damage.

While not tops, the Battlemaster does have respectable mid/close range damage, and the fact that it isn't a slave to ammo means it can fight forever. It's also fairly heat neutral stock. It's a good tough mech, I hope they're in the game. They only get better once you get XL engines and endo steel. Or triple strength myomer... mmm...

Great mech. Write up says that it has accommodation for a second pilot. this person co-ordinates battle field ops. I too love the look but in the table top it suffered the same issues as the Warhammer and to a lesser extent the Crusader (I call it the Roman Candle). Lots of ammo and all in vulnerable locations.

In MW2 lag shooting with PPC's was a skill all by it's self. nuff said. ;)
