Another thought, what about the different itterations of some mechs, such as the MW2 Mad Dog vs the MW4 Vulture. One had solid weapons on the arms and the other had two cannons on each arms. the MW4 Vulture also had that chin mount.
Also, what are everyone's top choices for mech (one per weight class). Gotta go with the Kit Fox for Light, Nova for sure for the Medium. I'd also love to get my hands on a Timberwolf (I know I know, me and ever other player in the game). Beyond that by Assault choice would have to be the Warhawk.

This makes no sense. The IS calling names are perfectly fine to use as names, no reason to get all elitist nerd up in this.

Actually there is. I grew up with MechWarrior 2. The Clan names are the proper names to me. I have no problems if they ISN and 'CW IS mission briefings' use the IS designations, but if I get a mission from my 'NPC Clan Unit Commander mission briefing' and a Mad Dog is called a Vulture, or a DireWolf is called a Daishi, I will be rather pissed.
Most of the Clan fans grew up with MW2, and to them it is very serious.

i would have thought that those are exactly the sorts of differences that they have lined up for the dif 'chase models' they have on the IS mechs.
they want to be smart they could name the 'chases' not by model number but by the clan which originaly built the mech- all the jade falcon built mechs favour lots of lasers and extra slots, blood hounds have largest engin capacity etc.
]A 'Mech as powerful as possible' date=' as impenetrable as possible, and as ugly and foreboding as conceivable, so that fear itself will be our ally.[/quote']
It's SUPPOSED to be ugly. It's the largest, meanest, strongest assault mech the IS would field for years. That skull plate over the head isn't for show; it's incredibly intimidating. Atlas cockpits are also routinely difficult to target as it's always the eyes, not the head. So it's also superior in that department.

Wasn't there something about Madcat being named so because someone thought it looked like a combination of Mad Dog and Catapult? Hm.

Phelan Kell, on The Rock, in the first Inner Sphere engagement with the Clans, saw this strange 'mech never seen before and his targeting computer was not able to label it,switching from "Mad" (Marauder, not Mad Dog,the Clan name for the Vulture) and "Cat" (Catapult) , so ComStar Precentior Martial Anastasius Focht named that unknown mech "Mad Cat".

why does every mech on that list have the look i like? aka non humanoid anime robot... hate those.
they all look like mean mechanized gun platforms!
i hate how many of the new mechs look so similar. i hate the humanoid look becasue there is no functionality for them in the game. why waste tonnage for fingers and arm actuators? more armour, bigger motor, and or bigger guns!
