After years reading the books, I have to say Liao can be a hard group to like at times. They have some great and honorable pilots, but also have been the most evil of villians. I like the "scrapy underdog" -ness to most. I am also betting it will have an active enough player-base to be noteworthy, while small enough to be tight-knit.

I guess the Rash-public might as well, but lore-wise they get stommped and are pretty much only around cause nobody takes the time to finish them off... I doubt it will have as much of a player base.

I have always enjoyed style more than pure strategy in my games (which is my excuse for my lapses in performance...), and Liao provides a lot of opportunities for this.

I enjoy the factions that make up the region, I enjoy the 'honest' shades of grey in the politics - as Shakespeare had it, "...though I cannot be said to
be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied
but I am a plain-dealing villain."

I also -really- enjoy playing the underdog. The Style of the Capellan society and uniforms is a pleasant bonus, as is the mix of the cultures that comprises them. Folks often forget that it's far from only being a Chinese based group.

While there are good points of most of the Factions, I admit that I am also looking forward to fighting with the kind of players who will eventually choose House Liao. Sure, there will be some who just want an excuse to be vile and unpleasant. But I am expecting a lot of players who have INTERESTING reasons. *Complex* characters in mind. Extravagant personal histories. An interest in how Chinese, or Indian, or Scottish, cultures might change or manifest in a world with Giant Mechanized Knights.

And who knows? Maybe an interest in the music, culture, fashion, history, and so on. At least we know this:

If you have chosen House Liao, you have not chosen the -Easy- path. Not the simple moralists choice, not the easy Strategy, not the Wealthy backers, not the Technological Overlords. And I look forward to learning those reasons.
