Sabaton, Van Canto, Blind Guardian, and Hammerfall are my battle bands. I've got a nice big playlist.

This is my personal FRR theme song right now.

Don't forget the Dansbandsmusik

*shivers in revulsion*

There are only 2 genres of music which I truly hate... and I don't say that lightly... because "hate" is one of those emotions which I almost never feel... the first thing that comes to mind is racism and discrimination in general... and I can only think of 2-4 people which I have truly hated in my life... other then that there are very few things that I "hate". The "lowest" feelings I tend to have towards anything is "strongly dislike", or "indifference".

Dansbandsmusik is one of them... the other is Country (I think it is also called Country and Western).

I don't think I can really explain just how bad I think these styles of music are. Not even "the bottom of the latrine barrel" could come close. A full septic tank would not be enough to give an idea of what I think of either styles. In my opinion, out of everything Sweden has contributed to the music industry, dansbandsmusik is the absolute worst of it. And the same goes for country and western when it comes to USA's contribution to music. Heck... Britney Spears could be considered a freaking flawless gem in comparison to dansbandsmusic and country and wester in my opinion. ;) I use her as an example because Sweden and USA are both responsible for her "creation". ;)

On top of that, pretty much all the music which where inspired by dansbandsmusik and country and western, or which inspired the creation of these two genres... is music which I in general don't like. Dansbandsmusik for example was inspired by jitterbug, foxtrot, swing, country, schlager, jazz, and rock (the 50's and 60's kind)... and I don't like any of them really.

All of this music revolving around these two styles can makes me feel sort of annoyed, agitated and..."tired". Not the sleepy kind of tired... but mentally tired or something. It's the kind of feeling which will make you sigh deeply, make you facepalm (usually with a painful look on your face), make you shake your head, roll your eyes, wanting to put your fingers in your ears, almost feel like your brain was hurting, or just in general want to remove your self from the location of what ever is causing your discomfort in sheer disgust. I can feel this way about other styles of music to, but unlike dansband and country and the styles revolving around those two, most other styles of music will have exceptions which I do like...

Of course, I am aware of that some of the music I listen to today might have been influenced by stuff which I don't like, but that does not change what I feel about them.

Finally, it annoyes me to no end that there is a dansbandsmusik group called "Vikingarna" ("The Vikings")... it's an insult to all Vikings and their decendents... AND to the victims of the Vikings to for that matter. :)

Clawfinger is a Swedish group that started in 1989 in Stockholm (half of the members are Norwegian though, but they joined in 1990), and they are still going to this day... they seem to play a lot of live stuff, more so then maybe your average group. Their style is "Rap Metal" (don't let that scare you away though if you don't like rap, to my ears it does not sound like rap... at the most it's how he sings, mostly a sort of talk-singing), and "industrial Metal". They are known for their aggressive yet melodic music, with most of their stuff having intelligent lyrics which tackles everything from politics, racism, religion, people. and the ridiculousness of people in general.

I remember those guys, I saw them live once many years ago. Also got some Pain tunes in my collection, although I've mellowed over the years and I'm as likely to listen to Kent these days.

I used to be a bit hyperactive, so much so that I apperantly was unable to sit still in class, listen to the teacher, focus, and do what I was supposed to do. Then in mid 1990 at the age of 10-11 everything seemed to change for me, I pretty much became the oposit. A very calm, layed back, mellow, take things as they come, etc, kind of a person. It was not really until 1992 that I seriously started to get into music... so after I mellowed down. I am still as mellow as ever... maybe even more now then back then. So my music interest never really changed that much, it just expanded into new genre variations of Metal/simmilar.

Now for some music... befor I make this post into an even more of a wall of text then it is... again... *was on his good way towards posting something which was 4-5 times bigger then what he actually posted* Count your selves lucky!

So how about some humorous music?

My favorit Green Jellÿ song. :o

And here's one for all the Ghost Bears out there. :D

Ha, another blast from the past- I used to have the Green Jello album too on cassette tape. I wasn't suggesting you have to be hyper to like metal btw, I guess the better way of saying it would have been that these days I listen to a wider variety of music which includes more mellow tunes. In my experience metal fans tend to be pretty chilled out generally, it was always the guys in the smart clothes from mainstream clubs starting fights in the street at closing time.

I owned 1 Green Jello cd's, but I lost it when I forgot it and 4 other cd's (2 Clawfinger cd's, and 2 other cd's which I don't recall which artists it was) in a videogame store where I had stood and tested a few games. I remembered it 5 minutes after I left, but by the time I got back they where gone. That was a pretty huge blow for a 15 year old, a lot of money that... not to mention that I think it was about half all of the cd's I owned as well at the time... so my music selection took a major hit.

And yeah, I don't actually think i had any particular point about my reply to the mellow stuff... more of a "this is how it was for me" kind of a thing. XD

A lot of the music I listen to is not actually all that hyper or "rough" or what ever. A lot of the Metal/simmilar music that I listen to, and prefer to listen to, is the melodic kind. I mostly like when things are more "flowing" and "nuanced"... if you will... oh and comprehensible. Which is why I have a problems with stuff like growly/shrieky/screamy kinds of vocals. And "speed-playing" the instruments, where all the nuance just seems to melt away... and it all becomes one big ugly mess of a thing (in my opinion).

I actualy never really encountered people like that... because "going out" was never a thing I thought was fun at all... still don't. If I got to choice I would rather stay home, then going to the bar or something. I would rather sit here writing a long-arsed post on a forum, then go out and drink. I know I know... blasphemy and all about the not wanting to drink alcohol... but I find drinking alcohol to be a compleat waste of time and money... I mean seriously, why would anyone want to drink anything which tastes that bad? XD

A classic indeed... I never really got into Nordman's music. Still remember his stuff though, seeing as it was played everywhere and all the time. <_<

I remember the name of Hedningarna... not their music though. Have to say that it's not my style of music, at all. :D

Yes... yes you should... otherwise you might miss gems like the ones below.

How about some late 80's to early 90's obscure Swedish Star Trek Electro-Industrial Synthpop music?

Can it get any nerdier? :D

S.P.O.C.K (Star Pilot On Channel K), is one of the extreamly few bands I have actually seen live.

Well, It doesn't really *feel* Viking... but... some of Apocalyptica's stuff would work pretty well for MechWarrior...

And E.S. Posthumus just has an epic feel to it...

Now that I learned of Wardruna from this thread, I will definitely be listening to that exclusively for the FRR, thanks so much for posting that kargush!
