yes, it still needs work. yes, it is playable and fun as-is
i enjoy playing it the way it is now, i'll enjoy it more when they put more content in it, and if i get tired of playing it i'll take a break and not whine on the forums while i'm gone

Clarification: Open Beta is still Beta. The game is not finished!
We can see this game growing in every patch. The game managed to make every mech not only beautiful but also useful - and that is a major success for PGI. New maps and mechs are coming, in every patch the weapons are re-balanced, many bugs are fixed... what more do you expect?
If you are so upset about the bugs and lack of content , why don't you return in a few months, after the Open Beta?
While I don't agree entirely with that fellow (It's beta, we want all those things, but it's still beta) you shouldn't be so rude just because he's not a founder, some of us can't afford food much less the founders program. Plus some people missed it. I know we are on the internet and mostly anonymous but try to be kind.

Did you know that the majority of things in the game I learned the hard way? There is an out of bounds and you will die. Missiles will fly over hills. The map determines the effectiveness of your heat sinks. You don't just buy one mech and equip it with whatever you want. There are slots. You buy the wrong mech, you can't just switch it out. Selling the mech will probably net you near to nothing.
Granted, this is closed beta and some things they have shared... well, in a somewhat short gameplay video outside the game. Other things will drive you crazy as a new player. Things could be better, but things could be worse. Voice, music, and mechs are more cosmetic additions than a necessity. In my opinion, the experience and economy is atrocious for new people. Something needs to be done.
Am I having fun? Yes. Is that what matters? Well, that depends on the player.
That is so true. But I've powered through the early learning stages of a complete game because i found it fun. The economy is a little messed up right now but its still beta, closed or not. From what it sounds like your learning the game. Found out the hard way that there is an out of bounds too, the hard way. But I think the only way to be good at any game is to learn the hard way. There are hard points(different weapons available/how many) to every mech, nd the idea is that you cant have 16 lasers on one mech. it makes for weakness/strength for every mech.

So you've developed patches for a console? Woop-de-*******-doo! producing patches for exsisting games is not developing games from scratch. Saying you've worked on Patches for a console and then claiming you're able to give insite on developing a PC game is like saying you've built your own RC racing car and trying to get on the design team for the Bugati Veyron.
This game is muich better built than say World of Tanks at release, with about the same amount of maps and game play styles. WoT took over a year to give more than one game type, it just had capture the flag/death match at launch and even with massive imballances in that game it's still running strong.
The MWO community will carry this game through any percieved problems in open Beta and on to official launch. Have as much faith in the Dev's as they do in us. You won't be dissapointed! (Unless of course your expecting to be dissapointed!)

At any rate, I'll just continue on playing MW:O though all its phases because I just like the game, even with the problems it has (so long as my school work doesn't get too much in the way that is). If, god forbid, MW:O somehow fails because too many newcomers fail to take notion that it's still a work in progress and that they can send in tickets to help the developers find and deal these errors or some other reason occurs...well then....................sh*t and meatballs son.
PS: Henry Killinger just called, be back soon......

1. A big box of Kleenex to wipe up your tears.
2. Some Flixs for U Pics.
3. A big bottle of lotion, then bring back some of the Kleenex from #1 to use with the pics from #2 to get your instant gratification you seem your entitled to!
4. If you want a shiny finished ready to play game there are tons of children's games I could recommend; WOW, need i say more.
5. Quit bashing the Devs, they are working their butts off trying their best to produce a game we will enjoy. If you want it your way i suggest you spend the money on the licensing, servers, programers, design team, facilities, art work, .........i am sure there is a lot more i could list here but you do not deserve any more of my time or effort.
On a totally different note Just wanted to throw the devs a huge THANK YOU, i know most of you love this franchise as much as we do and it hurts to have all this hate mongering and game bashing when you spend your time(thank for this), effort(thanks for this), blood(thanks for this), tears(thanks for this), and money creating something from scratch(just cause i feel you have not heard it enough; yet again thanks for this). As someone who spends half his life at work i totally understand how you must feel spending as much time and effort as you have on something that is important to you. I hope others will read my post and feel the same way. We need to be considerate of the trials you are going through, then to have your work so senselessly berated. We as a community can act more mature and give you more positive feed back and less what the OP just decided to regurgitate onto your plate. You know about all those problems and plan to fix most, keep up the good work! Do not stop this game has an outstanding foundation and first floor, the empire state building was built over night, and neither will MWO!

It's posts like this that kind of confuse me. Did something I post in my first post upset you? If so, what was it? Also, if you can prove any of my bullet points in the first post are wrong I will remove them. Until then, they remain truths of the current version of MWO.
I get the feeling some people are so upset that I'm right that they feel the need to take it out on me. I didn't make the game, I'm just a gamer like the rest of you. If you want to be mad about it, go be mad at PGI. I'm just the messenger.

This game is in early alpha yet announced as version 1 beta
Star Citizen and MWO made same amount of kick starter money 1.5 million dolars
They both use same engine and they both plan being games on same genre f2p
The thing is what star citizen shows people as just basic concept demo was just like an alpha of a game.
I saw pilot disembarked his fighter and walked to the bridge.Collision and ai was already implented.
Demo show landing in carriers and power ups of fighters as well as mounting.
Alpha starts at end of the year beta ends at the end of 2013.Launch is at unknown date of 2014
What I originally suggested to community about mwo BETA at 2013
At current status I wont give 10/2 to game its just not ready at all
not even for open beta.
Its sad I saw effords of mwo team and I ve been huge follower of theirs but I guess its communities fault that PGI failed
Cause community pushed time limits with their never ending demands. They needed 2 years and all they get was 6 months ... and people still whined.
What made star citizen successfull thus far was departed community and developers link ,devs do and decide without community interference, PGI be kind and all they able accomplish was rapidly forced engine put together with mech elements.
I wouldnt be angry if PGI just ends beta right now and delays to realese date on 2014

Slowly you guys with your rage speech have taken that away. I don't actually want anything to do with a lot of you besides shooting you in the face.
The ones who are helping this game succeed are not listening to your hate but I cannot stand to see it either and do nothing about it.
So here is the facts actually:
The game is fun.
The game is not ready.
The game is being worked on.
Look at the amazing last patch (while not perfect still amazing the amount of change they did bring in two weeks which most big budget studios do in months [armored kill BF3 anyone?]).
Take your hate. Make it actually something all of us will try and read for once instead of "I want my mommy these guys are so nyeh I want to cwy about evewyting".
Yes some of your points are valid. Did you have to go, "NO. STAY BACK COMMUNITY. LOOK HOW BROKEN THIS GAME IS. STOP RIGHT NOW. DO NOT GET EXCITED FOR OPEN BETA" on the public thread? Do you feel that this post is actually worth it? Is it going to add value to a game you probably enjoyed at one point?
You could have rather structured your post like a human and went, "There are some flaws. These are them. But here are the good things too". You cannot say there are no good things to expect. You should be telling would-be new pilots about both sides instead of a shameful rant.
People used to be terribly helpful (in a good way) with their feedback. Now it's just, "CRY MORE WANT SKILLZ". Seriously. Lets get back into the community we were and show PGI, people outside the game waiting to get in and ourselves that this is still the greatest community out there.
We are not DOTA whiners. Call of Duty "YOU CAMPER" shouters and Team fortress run and spam players. We are Mechwarriors.

This stuff is HARD WORK
Pay to Play games have beta's too, both closed and open...
and yes, this stuff is HARD WORK. Coding is a pain in the... I have to agree on this point...

DHS appeared to be working fine and as intended in the several hours of play I had. One thing is the environmental effects on the maps look like they have MUCH greater effect.
If there is this abusive method for grinding, you are doing a disservice by NOT discussing it.
Very little is 'easy to implement' in making a game...
Your opinion of that being an awesome game is just that, an opinion... Though it is in quotes so maybe you don't actually think it's awesome and more speaking about how much money that clone of a game (clone of itself, basically all they do is make more maps and guns for the same old game) makes...
DHS does not work right, dev's said so not very long after the patch hit...
No no no no no, do not say how to cheat or exploit in the forums... All you would be doing is creating a cheating guide for people... Such things are fixed through private discussion...
________________________________________________________________________________________________
Other than that, the game has to go open beta eventually... I just hope that this announcement means they have some things ready to be put in and back in...
Good luck to all those who have worked hard on it... Hope it pays off big for you... and us...

Ok I saw this a little late...
Have you ever tested an alpha..? That comment makes me doubt it... Try sitting around testing small individual pieces of a game, not even anywhere near a full game... This game is definitely in beta...

What makes you think I want this to fail? And what makes you think I'm not working to help this game succeed?
I actively participate in the closed beta and report bugs to the support team. I have several email threads regarding bugs I've found in the beta that they have thanked me for and added to the list. Most recently I found a bug in their auto-rearm feature that they didn't know existed (that was causing the game to give you incorrect amounts of ammo if using the auto-rearm feature).
The whole point of the original post was to say that this game isn't all flowers and puppies. It's in a bad state of affair to be released to the public, I listed off some of the major issues existing in the game right now. Nowhere did I say the game wasn't fun to play (the combat is good). I WANT this game to succeed, but people need to be ready to play a game that needs a lot of work; i.e. lower the expectations of open beta, otherwise they're will be tons of people turned away by what they suddenly find.

It is OKAY for you to not like the game; I mean that. It's FINE. But please don't berate them as a company and as hard-working people because "This could be easily solved if you did X, Y, and Z!" No. It couldn't. Nothing in game development is easy, and no 'fix' is ever 'simple'. This stuff is HARD WORK, and these devs have proven themselves, time and time again, to be both AMAZING at their jobs and LOVING towards the community. Please treat them with the respect that their labor of love deserves.

First, ready your torches and pitchforks - good thing that negrep is not part of this forum
*ahem*
- FPS drops: I NEVER EVER had an FPS drop during a match, random or otherwise. With the big graphics update I had to tweak the graphics settings again to get a good performance, my machine is not the youngest. (Actually I can NEVER play any game on max settings when it comes out - you get used to it)
- NAW! THIS GAME NOT READY! BIG BADA FAIL!: Um... no. Russ said that there are 10's of thousands of us founders not playing atm, guessing that it is because of our wipe-tiredness. I guess that he is right about the reason... it is mine for sure. Getting rid of the wipes will help dramatically and not only cause me to come out of the shadows, but many others as well. Ready? You serious? Look around guys... NO MMO of the present generations is EVER really READY. They all are a work in progress, I remind you of vanilla WoW for example. Comparing this with the only real competition (for being a very similar type of game) World of Tanks: At launch WoT may have had many tanks, but with little customizability, no community warfare, no acceptable physics system and one game mode. It became an amazing success. MWO already is better than WoT at its launch, so it is safe to say that MWO is ready for OB.
- No wipe between OB and launch is unfair towards the new guys: Nope. Whenever someone joins the game there will be others with Mechs that are much better equipped and better tailored for their pilots than his own. Joining such a game is at the first few matches always unfair, but this game is skill based. That means that this new guy will, after 3 or 4 matches, get his first kill assist or even kill - that will motivate him greatly.
- No money equals an inhuman grind: Yes. There has to be some motivation for people to spend money on the game. If, however, you are patient and go through the grind you do not need money. Most people are not sufficiently patient, but that is definitely not the fault of the devs. Also, there are 4 trial Mechs. Ok, their income is hindered and they are not customizable but they are still 4 free, fully equipped Mechs - and they are in a rotation. What else could you possibly want for free, nothing, naught, nada?
Long story short: This game WILL succeed (already has) and will be around for many years to come. There are enough of us who are going to spend some (or much) of our hard-earned money on this game to start. More will join over time. The introduction of community warfare should attract a bunch of new players, the clan invasion as well. There is no scenario I can see in which MWO does not grow to become more successful as time passes.
Everybody who does not like MWO (or prefer Hawken): shut up and go. Do not clutter the forum with pointless whining and doomsaying. Leave us in peace. Go on, shoo. You will not be missed.

5. And finally: NO ONE FORCED YOU TO PAY FOR ANYTHING IF YOU'RE A FOUNDER!!! ALSO THERE ARE TWO COUNT THEM ******* TWO MORE RESETS FOR YOU PREMIUM TIME! IF YOU LEARNED TO ********* READ YOU'D KNOW THIS! IT'S BEEN SAID SINCE DAY 1 THAT FOUNDERS WOULD HAVE THEIR TIME RESET AT OPEN BETA.
