Wtf.. why would you guys start it on a Monday. Me and 6 friends are together for a LAN party and cannot play together because our profiles are pending, and to make matters worse if you pay for points it still doesn't let you in. Everyone can't play together, this sucks ***.

Think the game is ready for release to the public and for PGI to start taking your money?

Here's what to expect:

-No item descriptions/stats
-no in-game tutorial, only 1 out of game tutorial thats only 10 min long
-only 4 maps, buggy maps
-few mech chassis(variants are nice but still basically the same mech)
-PGI removes mechs/variants with no warning (Where did the Centurion CN9-AH go? - replaced with a real money mech)
-horrible mech lab implementation(tab system made it worse), buggy mech lab
-netcode fails to properly register fast moving objects(now with no collisions)
-questionable pilot xp system(should be options against grinding different variants of what is essentially still the same mech)
-unbalanced weapons
-few weapons/systems(narc?beagle?)
-DHS not working as originally intended
-Horrible match-up system
-Only one game mode (8 vs 8 team deathmatch/capture the base hybrid - PGI admitted this was their 'test' game mode)
-Economy is unbalanced(spend money on MC to buy mechs that you cannot afford to repair)
-crashes to desktop
-random fps drops
-no in-game computer voice(all systems nominal, heat levels critical, outside mission parameters, etc.)
-no music
-not fully implemented in game voice chat system(havent tried this so not 100% sure on this)
-no chat room, no ability to communicate post-match
-no fix to prevent players from quickly grinding for c-bills using a method that I am not even allowed to discuss on the forums(lets just say that its very detrimental to others enjoyment of gameplay)

I think PGI needs to do some full disclosure here. This game is not ready for open beta/release to the public/giving them your money.

Your thoughts?

thanks for just ripping this straight from my post, you know i really appreciate that you did that without saying anything...

On the other hand good job making a thread about this.

All of "this is beta" makes me sick already.
Most of these issues have been out there for several months, some got worse recently (netcode for example) and you believe that they will just fix it like that soon after open beta starts? You truly have faith stronger than faithful muslims/christians.
Do you also think that they will introduce big things like community warfare in reasonable time? Yeah maybe they will, but I can tell you this now that if they do - list of issues will grow at least twice in size.
Sorry but if you think that things will be fine after game goes open beta then you surely haven't been paying attention to what's going on for past few months.

Well since i only got into beta yesterday maybe i can offer some "new player" input. The first two points are huge. There is no safe zone to try out the movement and controls, you get thrown in a real match right away without any idea what to expect or how to even pilot the mech. After 2-3 matches hoping noone curses at you for running into walls and getting the hang of the game, you start to explore the mech lab. And its horrible. You see all that equipment listed, but there are no stats or explanations of what they actually do. And quite frankly needing to search for out of game resources such as forums/wiki/youtube for basics such as weapon stats is a big let down.

But ok, some trial and error, some forum browsing and asking around gets me the sheet of equipment stats. So i get passed that obstacle (but i credit that only to my own determination, i am guessing a lot of people wont bother) and get my own mech with some vague idea of what i want on it. And i am hit in the face with the point of the economy. I quickly realize that i am earning a lot less money with my own mech than with a trial mech. And it doesnt matter if i win, lose, die or survive. Which triggers a new realization - my idea of gradual climb up the mech "ladder" was completely wrong. Since XP i earn is useless on any mech other than the one it was earned on and i get less money using my own mech means that i am to grind the credits for what i actually want to pilot in a trial mech! At that point my enthusiasm for the game dropped significantly. Right now i am still playing because its still shiny and new, but at the moment with pretty shallow gameplay (few deathmatch/capture maps) the game is not something i am willing to support with my wallet. And i am not even to the point of knowing the bugs and exploits discussed here.

As it stands, in this state with such limited gameplay, horrible mech lab interface, disheartening economy i simply dont see me playing this game for more than few days tops.

Two valid points most diehard founders will dismiss, which is sad as you are the voice the devs are aiming at with open beta (that was their point in the rant about open beta right?)

View PostRatmaniak, on 26 October 2012 - 05:58 PM, said:

On a cynical note, Open Beta allows more customers in, which - for the points in the OP that are detrimental to the fun of the game (particularly the C-Bill and XP mega grind) - will add a lot more voices against them.

At worst, player metrics will illustrate a moderate surge in player numbers, which quickly drops off as people discount the game as rubbish.

Realistically, we'll probably see a lot of new players, some will get "lol, noob"ed out by the closed beta peeps, some will dislike the grind, some will dislike the game as a whole, and some will become part of The Faithful.

...so 25% will join? not sure about anyone else, but 25% is considered failing just about anywhere. Now i joined the mech world when MW2 came out and love it, ********** of death in all. But MW4 failed because it didn't get traction by the mainstream, hence the reason there hasn't been a MW game in 10 years. If this is a game to fancy a small select community, then its on the right track, otherwise...

well, valid points, all of you ..

Ive only had 3 issues with the game so far:

1.Screen going black after a few matches

2.Mechs Ghosting, like lag ghosts, there then gone

3. Ive played for a lil while now, i spent many hours grinding for my first mech, gets whiped, i get my next mech(they put the c-bills back after the wipe) now i see theres gonna be one last wipe(maybe 2) and from what i understand and read, that only founders will get the c-bills back plus the MC, thats fine, you guys deserve that, but im spending my hard earned c-bills to upgrade my mech, to have it not return to me monday when i get to put the next patch in, not sure im liking that much.

but i love the game, wish i couldve afforded a founders pack, i will probably play this till it does die, kinda like im still playing wow.

What makes you think I want this to fail? And what makes you think I'm not working to help this game succeed?

I actively participate in the closed beta and report bugs to the support team. I have several email threads regarding bugs I've found in the beta that they have thanked me for and added to the list. Most recently I found a bug in their auto-rearm feature that they didn't know existed (that was causing the game to give you incorrect amounts of ammo if using the auto-rearm feature).

The whole point of the original post was to say that this game isn't all flowers and puppies. It's in a bad state of affair to be released to the public, I listed off some of the major issues existing in the game right now. Nowhere did I say the game wasn't fun to play (the combat is good). I WANT this game to succeed, but people need to be ready to play a game that needs a lot of work; i.e. lower the expectations of open beta, otherwise they're will be tons of people turned away by what they suddenly find.

So you say all this. Yet you don't list any good points?

You sir are a child if you can't be patient. So what if things break at first? They can fix it?

I'm actually done with this community forum. Done. Over it. Go cry yourselves a river. My input will be private. I'll just play the game. You whiners are merely children clinging to the fragile little power you think you have.

Paying for unfinished product that doesn't even have most of major promised features and is filled with bugs that devs could not address for several months and only made some of them worse? No thanks I will buy some other game(s) for that money.

Why should there not be many other peolpe joining the open beta that will feel the exact same way. I guess there are so many fans out there, that will glady live with the flaws and the fixes - as long as they can actually PLAY!

MWLL was a mod, not a game (also no mechlab), so thanks for playing. If you hate this game so much, why are you here? Please take your own advice and bye.

So then you should just sit there and complain like a child that had his favorite toy taken away instead off actually providing constructive feedback to the developers to try and improve the game while it is in beta? I will give you a hint, its still beta, even when open beat hits, it is still beta. Now, in saying that you better believe there will be a community uprising to support all of you over entitled whiners once it goes live.

Sorry to burst your bubble but open beta is just a nice name for release in f2p games. Notice that this is final wipe, so in fact release. Majority of players will start playing game at the start and they will see it's current state. You can be sure that opinions won't be very positive.
And who said I didn't provide my feedback throughout beta? Thanks for making assumptions. Also calling others children/kids makes you look very mature as well.

So mod isn`t a game? Ok. FYI there are several variants of each mech (typically 6), and game has much more mechs currently than MWO (34 if I`m not mistaken). 6*34=204. That's plenty to choose from isn't it? I'm quite sure that you won't see that huge variety here due to weapon balance issues. Oh and game also have other vehicles to add to all of that.

I'm here to voice my opinion because I want MWO to succeed. Saying game isn't ready is an opinion, not whining. Saying devs did not fix major issues for months is stating a fact. But founders with their "this is beta" battlecry seem to be almost everywhere.

No, a mod is not a game, a mod is a mod and if you are so happy with it, why not go play it? No one, absolutely no one is forcing you to come to the MWO forums and cry like you are. You say you want this game to succeed, yet, there you are crying. I see no constructive feedback, no hey this is a better idea devs, and no this is what i currently like about this game. Instead, you just say how much better MWLL is, which concurently has been out a lot longer and also has had years to become the polished mod that it is. Oh and there were no issues with MWLL when it launched? I beg to differ, I did not play that mod because it was pure crap at launch.

I did not call you a child/kid, I called you an entitled whiner.

ok, example: last patchday: sitting on a lan party with 13 people, all waiting for the patch to finish.. .. some time later, patch done..we can patch.. one after another we finish patching and start the game.. and u know what? NO ONE could do anything, since we ALL had the actual FRead error, which kickes us out of client as soon as we log in.
everything rune smoothly BEFORE the patch, and then? BAM 13 ppl less who can play/test/whatsever.. in a single room

well, we said "hey, we have time, try somethin out, maybe somethin works, were used to bugs.." so some tryed configs, some tried to reinstall..
nothing.

so now? no one of us can play anymore, we tried about 10 different ways which are posted all over the beta forums, nothing works.. and now? 5 of us have already given up hope, the rest can do nothing but wait for next patch (which hopefully solves this)

ok, my point is:
i want mwo to suceed, too; i dont have any problems with minor bugs or whatever - i mean hey, its beta.. i know finished gold products which have quite more bugs then mwo.. - but if everythin runs smoothly. and a new patch destroys the whole game.. i dont see a chance.
if it would be the first time well, ok, **** happens, but it happens nearly EVERY patch to atleast 5% of the players that is 4,98% more then it should be.

i dont say "simply fix it first" - i know that such stuff isnt "simple", but imo open beta with such a major issue which have about 30% of my friendlist cant be serious.

not to mention to download the whole game after each of thos major bugs... with ours of patching.. and getting more with every patch.. no casual gamer will let something like that go on his nerves

and before i forget, in f2p games, open beta IS 95% gold version

i have seen barely a very few games where after starting open actually still something happened, most simply start beta and then the troubleshooting is like "eh? what u say? ye ofc we'll fix it.. never"

Guess it's my turn to get flamed.

I'll open with the fact that I greatly enjoy playing the game. Unfortunately, it's buggier than ship's meal at the moment. Functionally, I usually end up needing to wait a day or two after a patch for a hotfix or something before it will run well enough on my pc to be playable. Just to be clear, I want this game to succeed, and look forward to a "release grade" product.

With that said, we currently are in Beta, and it shows. All the issues the game has, are entirely reasonable and to be expected in Beta. The problem is, many players who come in at Open Beta aren't going to make that distinction. These players WILL BE expecting a release grade product from the word go, and MWO is nowhere near that point yet.

The fear is not that these players won't stay, but that, with how fast and wide ideas spread on the internet, and with no real check on bias or factuality, their negative opinion will be a massive blow to a title we are pushing for, and, longer term, the damage it will do to the brand itself. As people keep repeating, it has been many years since a major MW title has been released. If this game takes a nosedive, what will happen to the brand?

The work being done by the developers at PGI does show through with each patch. Unfortunately, quality takes time. And while those of us invested in this game may be willing to give them that time, there seems to be a massive, and largely unnecessary, feeling of urgency to get this game out to the public. The largest stated reason for them to go to open beta, that being burnout by testers due to resets, does not require open beta to resolve. Soft resets like the one we just had are an entirely viable solution to this problem.

I think we can all agree that there is a lot of work left to be done on this product, if not necessarily on significance and priorities. Hopefully, something can be done to find a workable timetable for feature adds, testing, and EVENTUALLY open beta.

Again, (or TLDR) this game is valued by most of us, or we wouldn't be here. Unfortunately, despite any heartfelt protests otherwise, when it goes into open beta, it will be judged as is by the general public, and, in it's current state, this is not a good risk to take. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

I paid $60 and I already feel like I got my money's worth. I have already had 300+ hours of entertainment. Thats $0.20 an hour; what a deal! And I still have my MC credits and founders mech, and premium bonus.

Thanks PGI. Keep up the good work.
