Ofcourse no game can get close to the adrenaline rush of RS after battle, hurt 'Mechs limping home, salvage being towed, decide what to core because you know the enemy will have more people logging on soon, or being harrassed by Zephyrs and other hovers.

All this and more.

They may have had their drawbacks - I got into more than one disagreement with people who just wanted to sit in the base all day... but the depth they provided was something that no other BattleTech game has ever managed to match, and I honestly doubt MWO will either. I sorely miss the days of having to talk someone into driving that Blackjack because it was all we had and we had to make it work somehow rather than just 'mechlabbing it into yet another twinked-out munchmech. When strategy actually mattered, long-range harrassers were a serious threat to anything out there, and the map was big enough to make scouting matter.

<sigh> I feel old.

You guys do realize that a unit of MU* veterans can only result in endless boozeops? ;-)

Started on 3026 in '91, then 3056 in FedCom, in which at the end I pumped out a lot of rooms as Peter_S-Davion, never had a problem with Guzzer tho I could understand others doing so ;-)
Did most of the other MU* till I got mostly immersed in 3030.
Ran out of time to play around the time the graphical clients got better.

Sometimes I do wander around and log into any MU* that is open but haven't piloted a 'Mech in years, either afraid of looking rusty, or of being sucked in again.

You say boozeops like it's a bad thing.

Claiming a love affair with the Warhawk is like bragging about lusting after Christina Hendricks - probably true, but not all that unique

Now those of us who loved the Summoner had a little something more to think we stood out for... And I seem to remember that EvB had a disturbing fondness for the Hellbringer. That was just plain nuts. :D

I love the oldtech Davion Rifleman. (RFL-4D)

Even more than all the 'better' PPC mecha.

schwing.

Only saw one person that might remember me. I was the only non-faction associated admin. (main Coder, though full credit for the original system goes to Arthur, but I did what I usually do which is actually make it work correctly).

Also developed the comm and macro systems from scratch to be much less abusive of the poor box we had to run the 3056 system ;)

Anyway, saying hi and remembering old times.

Et

Ethaniel... a name I remember well also.

Your name came up sooooo many times when I was working with the code for 3056 as well as 3065.

I liked your easy to understand coding.

Would you believe I still have a running copy of 3065? lol

You're credited with the graphics on 3065. I can't login, I was hoping for a little taste of MU*s again before this goes live. However, using CMUD, it just keeps trying to reconnect. Were you able to connect? I tried btech.xs4all.nl port 3065 and it just keeps repeating... Reconnecting to...

hey Kell, one of the guys I always enjoyed playing alongside.. heh. Yea, always enjoyed playing a Snord more than anything else. I still remember the one and only mechwar on 3056.. at the end.. when I rigged the entire base to blow to keep the clan we worked for from turning on us to get the tech.. even though it was ooc.. heh

Hope to play alongside you all again.

Those were some good times, I remember spending a lot of time playing together. Also with Yakko, so will be good to have him on here as well. We had a really good crew of people in SI, WD and KH on '56 for a long time.

Okay.. who the hell is going to throw together a damn clan with all these old players so we can kick A$$ again? That is what I want to know.

I'll pay for a TS server just to get this thing going :)

Hell, I'll host the website.

Sign me up, coach.. I'm ready ta play!

We should think more about an appropiate name. The more obvious unit names will be used by many many people (ELH, KH, GDL, WD etc.).
Then there are the still big units but lesser used ones like 12th Star Guards (old memories there of 3026 ;-)
Or we can take something not directly btech canon, and either something constructed or historical, or both.
Something like Old Guard, or in our case First Old Guard, making us Fogeys ;-)

Just to say that while I'm not familiar with the MU*s that you speak of, this thead makes me happy for the overall maturity of the battletech fandom.

So are we forming a regiment or not? (none of this clan/guild nonsense)

Lets just call it BoozeOps .. I can remember being so drunk that it took me 20 minutes to drive 30 hexes once...or the time I drove my manticore into a lake by the FC base and Carnifex cheated to move me out because he thought it would be too embarassing for anyone to see.

Where's Geldon?

It's a shame GDL is probably taken as it might have been the most appropriate cannon name given our average age...

I think [Something] Old Guard sounds pretty good.

Well, gotta see if there is enough interest and then see who could/would lead it. Okay. someone step up to the plate and run this thing!

You also could pick a one word name that simply keeps it clean and simple and seems... "ominous".. like

Fortress
or Stalwart
or Intrepid

Sometimes a single word carries a lot of meaning.

Me, I am easy schmeasy <_<

Or take something that is almost one word and add a letter:
Generation X
Which would cover most of us ;-)
Tho a more military correct, and literal name would be Vanguard in one form or other.
