But it seems like i am not the only one confused today. Some words from the Devs would be nice

Not surprised with the delays to most patches we get.

They missed something that made the DHS work like SHS..

In the same thread he later added, that it was possible that they would decide not to fix them and keep them broken...

Also that would mean they would have to decrease the upgrade cost way down!

The DHS installed within the engines which is very substantial are defaulted to working like SHS.
So if your using an engine with 3 HS slots, u only get 3 times the cooling as oppose to 6 times of cooling.
However all DHS installed outside the engine in the rest of the hard points ar working fine atm.

A Small Economy Tweak and Other Fixes.
- On Monday, there will be a tweak to address some of the repair bill issues.
- Double Heat Sinks will be fixed between the 29th and November 6th. Details forthcoming.
- A tweak to MechLab UI is coming ASAP to address concerns over the Loadout/Upgrade tab. This tweak will allow you to fully spec your BattleMech before committing to a purchase/change.

so any of the higher tonnage mechs that use them are wasting c bills due to crit slot limitations
ie atlas with 21 'dhs' will have 10 single hs in engine + 11 dhs giving 32 single hs equiv where as the same build using singles and a slightly reduced engine i could pack in 36 singles with crit slots to spare

Try this experiment.
Pick a mech, your choice, install 10 shs, no engine, save, note efficiency. Remove, install standard engine 260 or engine and # of HS to bring up to 10. Save, check efficiency.
Should be the same.
Do the same for double.
I get the same 1.3 efficiency from the 10 DHS in engine as I do from the 10 known DHS in mech.
Combined however I get 1.88
50% increase from 1.3 is really really close to that 1.88 number. Anyone with better math skills care to double check?
I still think heat should be balanced some. Heatsinks across the board both single and double should either be more effecient, or should sink heat faster (7 second cycle instead of 10)
I don't think weapons will truly be balanced until they balance heat better.
However this is IMO a step in the right direction.

The mechlab thinks that every HS is doubled when you go DHS, but the way the server treats them in play doesn't properly double the value for an engine's built-in onboard sinks (not sure if it also singles down sinks that you manually stuff into bigger engines, too).
Analysis by people doing a lot more thorough work than me suggests that .2/s for SHS and .4/s for DHS would be a good rate to roughly balance weapon outputs vs. heat generation and dissipation, with ballistics generally being more efficient in SHS 'mechs and energy weapons being better in DHS 'mechs (since they get helped out more).
