System: Windows 7-64bit
Anti-virus: Windows-Defender and Malwarebytes (Malwarebytes isn't an active scanner like windows defender though)

I encountered this error after I alt+f4 out of a Black Screen game. When I logged back in I got the FRead error soon after logging back in. I logged back in and got the error again. So I disabled windows defender and logged back in, I noticed that my dragon that I had black screened in was still in a match, even though 15min had already passed. So, I exit the client normally before the error occurred. Whether it was exiting normally or disabling windows defender, my Dragon was out of the match when I logged back in and then the error didn't occur within the first minute or so like usual, but instead happened after I tried entering a match.

Hello all,
just encountered this error after downloading the patch today.Used 7zip and found the corrupt file in textures.pak.The new mechbay floor/smoke texture got corrupted.Any link to the textures.pak file?

Deleted the textures.pak hoping the patcher would detect it's removal and replace it.no luck.the game does look quite hilarious without textures tho.Takes me back to the 90's and mechwarrior 2 lol

If you take this link:

http://patcher.mwome...ame/Objects.pak

and replace Objects with textures

http://patcher.mwome...me/Textures.pak

It should work. The same strategy should work for other paks as well.

I reinstalled for this new patch and was able to use the Mech Lab without issue. I was able to play one game on Frozen City as well with no issues. The second game I played crashed to desktop while loading Caustic Valley. The third game I tried on River City gave me the FRead error before crashing. I have been having the FRead issue for about a month and a half. Very frustrating.

Last week I tired swapping corrupted files for good ones, but it seemed to just creorrupted too quickly so I gave up. I really hope a solution is close...

I have encountered the FRead error on three occasions. The first was from the patcher hosing things up. The other two times were from game crashes.

It seems that somehow, whatever method of opening / reading the files that MW:O is using is capable of corrupting the PAK files when the game crashes.

I've been pondering experimenting and changing NTFS permissions on the PAK files to Read-Only. It'd definitely hose up any game-patches... but I wonder if it might also help prevent corruption from the game engine.

MW:O Devs: Are you, by chance, opening the PAK files with a write flag during game-play?

Tried that to no resolution on the issue. It will not help marking the entire MWO folder as Read-Only that you will then have a failed paching of the build if it is requested during launch, worst case is simply that any existing files will become corrupted even that they are marked R-O.

Currently I don't see it logically to patch the game at all, it would be much wiser to wipe the build and reinstall the content via a torrent.

So, I ran into this issue too. I am currently downloading Objects.pak in the hopes to fix it. I can say though, I have no antivirus (I usually use malwarebytes, but I haven't run a scan in far too long), but I was messing around with custom user.cfg files before hand, so that very well could have done it. If that is what did it, I suppose I deserve your wrath, but I figure I should make mention of that.

@Sand Latern refer to the crashlog, it should have the issue written at the end of the .log, and may look as so, at least that is the lasted I have of it:

So basically i would have to use another day to install this game again, to see if i get a bad cookie or a good cookie, but theres no garantees, i havent even played this game, and i am already hating it. Installed the game due to recommendation of a friend, took me a good 15 hours to let it take in all the things it needed. and install it. and now i need to do all that again... FFS. for claritys sake, getting the Fread error for Cry engine here. and i havent played a single match yet....

I did that last weekend, and its to no avail. Looks like there techs got a hard time ahead of them.

The reason behind that a user needs to download all patches when re-installing is mindblowingly ****** up. Wipe the build and re-install the game via one stream. Please. To much can go wrong when multiple patches needs to be applied again and again, and we are not talking about a few patches, its +40 patches for a mere 1.72GB game. Seriously girls.

I'd start by using 7Zip's built in test to ck your Pak files in your game folder.
If you identify Paks such as the Objects Pak with errors download that Pak only and overwrite the bad Pak.
There's a link a few posts up I posted where you can get the individual Paks.

Just to follow up, Replacing the object.pak didn't fix my issue. However, I was able to correct it by replacing system.cfg and deleting my USER/Profiles/Sand Lantern/attributes.xml file to let that rebuild. Clearly the error was a mistake on my end and you should probably disregard my experiences in tracking this problem.

Also make sure Windows Defender and any other virus protection software is turned off while downloading.

sorry but this aproach i cannot take because it is fundamentally flawed suggestion, leaving my PC unprotected for the duration of "reinstalling and repatching this game" when the speeds i am getting the DL's varies between 80kb/s to 170kb/s i would have litelarry no protection for a 1-2 days because some developers cant get their **** right... sorry but thats just... not right.

Edit: and i have tried 7zip verification, problem is. my DL/install happened over the course of 4 days. so basically all of my paks were in the *******. so it is a fresh dl/install aproach for me next. i can only hope the devs sort their **** out, because once this is done, there is not going to be a third one for me :S was so looking forward to a mech warrior game after such a long time... but the devs execution on this game leaves something to be wished for :S

I had this problem on patch and fixed it by downloading the correct files upthread. However, a few days later I started getting FRead errors everytime I tried dropping into a particular map. Sure enough, I had corrupted files - even though they had earlier tested okay with 7zip. For the life of me I can't figure out why those files aren't read only and why you would ever write to an archive, but unless it's a problem with my computer somehow, it looks like in the current patch can (rarely, at least) the cilent can overwrite and damage files that previously validated okay. Nuked the install with Revo and reinstalled, no problem since. Win 7 x64.

Hate to throw a monkey wrench into things, but I'm running Windows 7 32-bit and I've hit this issue twice. The first time, Objects.pak was corrupted (catapult file) and caused the crash after a match launched. This time, I get the error after I log in. I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials.

I'll post more information when I figure out which file is corrupt. What's odd is the timestamps on the files indicate that none of them have been updated in a while, so I'm not sure why this just started happening now.

edit: looks like it was Textures.pak (decals/river/decal_river_ivy_a_adf.dds), which I'm redownloading now. Just wanted to give you some more information to work with.

Just got the same problem and I got objects.pak corrupt.

So any other option instead of reinstall the game? Any way to just download the corrupt file?

Windows 7 64 bit
MS security essentials
8 gb of ram
amd phenom 2 3.7 ghz quad core
nvidia GeForce GTX 460

Got this error message after logging in and game would crash everytime

FRead did not read expected number of byte from file, only 24 of 0 bytes read

Ran 7zip check against all the .pak files and shadercache.pak was corrupt.

Renamed this file with .old extension and everything loaded up fine. Game looks a little off, but otherwise everything plays just fine.

Is there a place to send the file or ftp location to load it to? Anything else I can provide, information wise?

I hate to be a nag, but any chance we could get an update from the team on this issue? I have been in contact via a support ticket as well but haven't heard back in a while.
