Yeah what will it take to create an incentive to new players to continue to play? Certainly not a 60 game grind to get their first configurable mech....

In canon, you would be assigned a mech and its subsequent loadout. Try a few. On the other hand. They could post some more heat efficient builds. Though, it is a good learning tool.

I am in favor of the idea of a "training mech", but the limited XP and C-Bill return is IMO the problem. Now that the economy is better tuned then the trial mechs could be uncrippled for XP and C-Bill's. Though there are game mechanics problems that need addressing first.

Eh, I am of the camp of people not being able to customize 'mechs until they have some sort of high rank in their respective group/faction, but that is just me.

However I do think it would be a good idea to at least allow people in trial 'mechs to gain some general XP points to put into things while they work towards their own 'mech. I mean you are gaining experience while piloting them so why not earn some GXP for it.

BTW a commando is a PERFECT mech to start playing with... no jumpjets and fairly customizable... fast as a Jenny and with soooo many options...

Give them more for their time... but not new mechs or c-bills to start with ;)

If you had to pay an up-front price for the game, it would be easy to say everyone needs to start with a real mech and be able to customize it immediately.

As a non-paying player of a F2P game, though, you are an entry-level player; you've made no investment yet of either money nor time, and have not yet earned anything.

You can pay with money or time, the choice is up to you. Buying some MC will allow you to begin with a real mech immediately, or you can spend a few days with Trial Mechs to earn C-bills with which to buy your own mech.

Founders ought not post anti-trial mech buff comments :D You're gods on the battlefield right now. Many of you because you're good players, but all of you because of more advanced battletech.

Trial mechs are ok, just install enough heatsinks to hit the 1.5 heat score and give the raven something more than a hobby motor to run off of.

I'd solve this by simply giving every new player some flat amount of money. Say a million C-Bills. That would take a good 2 dozen games off the grind. Of course, the incentive is really intended to get you to drop $20 and buy your first chassis.

I deserve to be stomping every noob in my path. :3

I wish they at least gave you a few millions to ease up or outright buy your first own mech.

Trials are good, but they're no fun when compared to having something to call your own.

Yeah, I thought the plan back when this first started was to let people pick a free battlemech and get some cash to start with. A little disappointed that they decided to go only the trial 'mech routes. I love this game but damn, just trial mechs and no xp from piloting is a bit much.

Let me ask,
would you like more to have (say 10-15) "Training Missions" and need to finish these to "unlock" your start mech?
I got me the DCS flightsims, but doing the trainings is quite boring for me.
But I know the training missions will come and who knows, maybe then we will use the training to get some starting money/mech.

As a Founder I believe that Trials Mechs are bad because heatsinks are broken.

Not just double heatsinks, but the heat sinks do not stack. Each one is less effective than the next, as such, stock variants are broken as ****.

Because I have to start over and especially because of the grind; I will not continue to play. When the reset occured and I found I had no money, I went to see about spending money and buying a mech. I have no interest in buying(real world money) a mech that can be bought with ingame money. Since there is only one 'special' mech and it is not the type I want to play, I will not be playing until there is something worth my money. I REFUSE to do this grind with the trial mechs. The game went to open beta to early. It needs more mech selections at the minimum.

I would call the MWO concept not f2p or p2w but GOP - "Grind or Pay". Coincidentally, in russian "gop" (or "gopnik") means "chav", "street thug", "petty criminal".

Personally I think the trial mechs are a good idea, and before i get flamed for being founder "And i have a better mech because its a founder" (which they aren't its the same friggin' mech with a different skin but i can change the load-out which cost money). Let me say this.

1. I think that everyone should start with say 3.5mill C-Bills. this way they can buy all the lights and some of the med's straight off the bat. Or save the money if they are after a heavy or assault mech. But then it really doesn't take that long to grind up to buy a mech. One of the guys in our group has had enough to buy 2x commandos in less than a day (on a 50/50 win ratio).

2. Trial mechs couldn't be limited to 1 from each class. They should have 1 version of each mech up at all times. If i'm looking to buy a new mech I don't want to waste my MC or C-Bills i want to try a version of that mech first and don't want to have to wait 2-4weeks for it to come up in the rotation. I wouldn't mind giving an atlas a go but last 2 assault mechs have been different versions of the Awesome

3. Trial mech's should get GXP but not MXP as they need to get something for their troubles and as GXP is the slowest of everything in this game (and most useful - but needs saving and not wasting) this seems a good choice.

As for the grind comments I've been seeing - PLEASE all MMO's have a grind of some type its the nature of the beast. If they didn't you wouldn't have any skills/weapons/armour etc.... to upgrade.
