So, I am using just the throttle from my Thrustmaster HOTAS and a mouse.

Everything works great, except when I use the keyboard to open chat, or TAB to look at standings, or even B for the map. If I use the keyboard the Mech will stop.

Now, if I use the keyboard to accelerate, then open chat, TAB, or B the Mech does not stop.

When I say stop I mean, as if I hit X, or S to throttle down. Not like a pause or shutdown.

Here is a copy paste of what I am using. I used an old thread from the old forum.

Any assistance so my Mech does not stop would be appreciated.

USER.cfg

cl_joystick_sensitivity = 0
cl_joystick_throttle_range = 0
cl_joystick_invert_throttle = 1
cl_joystick_invert_pitch = 1

I have the exact same problem when using the throttle axis of a T16.000. A friend with a G940 has the issue too.

Glad to see we are not the ones using the throttle+mouse combo... :)

Throttle + Mouse Combo almost needs its own thread. But I say we keep it our secret.

In the meantime, I will continue not typing unless I need to.

That will remain a secret, shared only amongst pilots who can appreciate finesse and doigté rather than the sound and the fury!

Same issue happening here, any workaround would be appreciated.

I take it there is still no resolution to this problem? Sucks being a scout that can't relay info without being deluged by enemy missiles.

I hope we get a fix for this soon. It is very hard to try to take commander when using throttle. Whenever I try to open map to put a new marker in, my throttle goes to 0. PGI please fix this!

Sad to say, this did work but was busted when Battlemap was implemented in closed Beta. And never fixed. So, yet another issue needing some love.

It's been like this forever...the culprit is...

cl_joystick_invert_throttle = 1
cl_joystick_throttle_range = 0

Of course, without it, your throttle won't work right, so it's a choice...for me it's keeping my x52 HoTaM set-up, and remaining the silent type in chat :blush:

Mr 144, I have to correct you. Did not happen at first when I joined late Sept. The mech would trundle along at a set speed while you typed. Then it didn't. and this started either with the Battlemap or very shortly after. Try full throttle on a HOTAS and open team chat or general and see what happens. And I owe you an apology for getting my facts wrong in the other thread about premades.
Hope to see you in game,
Salute

I believe what is actually happening is that as soon as the chat is opened all joystick axis are set to 128 (centered) so that there will be no runaway twisting.

This is common in games and engines where joystick input was not necessarily the primary design goal.

Im glad to hear that it is something that was introduced rather than something that was always as it is.

My favorite example of this was mouselook in battlefield 2 centering all axis and thus causing flaming helicopter wrecks due to zero throttle input.

We should simply keep reporting this issue for each version of the game with a friendly, "Joystick input for [used function] during chat is still disabled". Maybe we get lucky and its something they can switch back on.

I would love to be able to navigate while I chat, since I use pedals for turning as well.

OK, about 2 weeks before I got in then :lol: which makes sense, as 'partial joystick support' was just being implemented at that time. No prob on the other thread either, premade threads get heated, and I scan read 'em as well, so confusion happens to everyone B) It can be very hard to determine my views too, as I'm caught in the middle between multiple playstyles.

Please fix this issue... A stopped mech is a dead mech!!!! And with the new capture game mode we NEED the Battle map/chat!

I also can say...
Please fix this issue.
Long time ago, I have open a call and you have closed it, with "it will be fixed in a later patch"
Many patches came, but never fixed the problem :-(

And after that you bring the analog turn, and a Joystick would be a weapon against the mouse mechwarriors ;-)

thx

I get the same problem using my Sidewinder 2 joystick. Apparently I can't walk and talk at the same time. :)

Bug still present. Any idea why this isn't on the "Known issues" list?
Please vote on my thread in the patch feedback forum to get attention for this:

Even a simple "this glitch is working as intended" would be nice. It was one small advantage we JS users had. VERY small. I might as well add here that is why the balance dev and JS implementers are not my favourite people.

I have said my say before but seriously, who in his right mind does a relative axis aiming for a JS and stuff like this and then expect not to get accused of indifference/downright bad intent. I will reconsider my attitude if it is an engine or similar problem, but other than that...

I tried to vote, but I get a permissions error:
[#10353] You do not have permission to vote in this poll.

I also see my throttle set to full reverse after coming out of map or chat. This is particualrly obnoxious since I hooked up my HOTAS cougar for WoWP, not even MWO (didn't seem like it was worth the work to get it programmed and all).

I'm wondering if this is a Throttle decay issue at this point.
