Because the old thread is currently lost in the Beta Forums and I don't know the link to the download, I am uploading and rewriting the guide.

(Originally made by L etranger.)

Step 1.

Download the .zip file from this link: http://www.mediafire...shak4ubg7rz3g7s

Step 2.

Open it in your favorite file extractor: (Windows .zip, WinRAR, 7zip, etc.)

Step 3.

Extract the "Engine" folder to your MWO folder.

Step 4.

Merge it with the "Engine" folder already in there.

Step 5.

Enjoy MWO without the Film Grain!

Just to give you a heads up; modifying the game files might create technical problems such as not being able to patch for the next updates. If modifications have been made to the game files we will not be able to provide you any support until you perform a full deletion of your game and a clean reinstall.

Dear Chris, many can't stand the film grain. I've been patching well while keeping this file since it came out.. as far as I know it doesn't modify anything, it's just "added" into a folder. Fix the film grain (remove it, leave it only while using Night or Heat vision) and ppl will be happy to have a clear vision rather than a blurry one that in 3050 doesn't seems so much realistic

Say what you want about not liking film grain. But disabling it through files, tweaks, settings or hacks not available to all users has got to be hard to justify as anything other than cheating, especially given that it gives ou a competitive advantage.

Film grain was a design choice and the prerogative of PGI to enable or disable.

As far as I know this is modding, no file was edited, and devs themselves stated that they'll make available whether to activate it or not. The problem is that we don't know when.

Until then, I've a 24" screen, a performing PC with good CPU and Graphics and I don't want to play a game that it's like watching a chat talk through a webcam, maybe of several years ago I may add. The game has gorgeous graphics and I want to enjoy them, and this doesn't take away film grain under heat nor nightvision nor the zoom module.. so let me know where's the advantage.
