That's why they'd rename them to "improved heatsinks"
In fact, let's have 1.5 heat disipation, 2 crit slot heatsinks, AND 2.0, 3 crit slot ones, have both, why not? More options is more better.
Plus how about a version that's 2.0, weighs 2 tons per HS, but is only 1 crit slot [for assault mechs].

With 1.4 heat dissipation it would become DOWNgrade for any mech, regardless of tonnage.
Should I pay 1.5kk for downgrade? I am not a complete fool to do such a thing.

No it's not. It is simply not possible to build a Jenner with 24 heat sinks, because of weight restrictions. With DHS, even with a 1.4 ratio you can build a jenner with equivalent heat dissipation. Some mediums might profit too ... but everything else, will be a bit more fubar than with SHS. I'm afraid this will encourage some small and medium laser builds, but anything pulsing, large lasers and PPC won't profit.

Mediums are supposed to be a threat, heavies more so, and assaults god awful.
:edit
To that end I agree with what they have done with the economy, it punishes your for rolling heavy. Fine.
This 1.4 crap is just that, crap.

Funny how I never see this mentioned in all of the "complaint" threads on DHS... wonder why??
Mainly because it won't matter too much if they monitor it, as the builds that would've used DHS's instead of singles will now keep using singles. Also, the builds that wouldn't happen without DHS's simply will not exist now. They essentially will have nothing to monitor except the lack of people using DHS's.

Except it IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT. The AWS-9M is getting a nerf its better now than it will be post patch, and that mech was already way to hot with the current system.

They need to refund us the cbills we spent on worthless DHS now, cuz it will cost us more to get rid of them.

Only if you didn't pack more than 6 Double Heat Sinks.
10 Standard Engine Heat Sinks + 6 DHS act like 22 regular heat sinks
16 DHS post patch will deliver 16 x 1.4 = 22.4 regular
10 Standard Engine Heat Sinks + 7 DHS = 24 regular heat sinks
16 DHS post patch wil deliver 17 x 1.4 = 23.8 regular heat sinks.
That means it's great for Light, Medium and some Heavy build. But most Heavy and pretty much all Assaults will lose out.

My Awesome doesn't lose out, but at the same time, gains absolutely nothing.

The engine heat sink bug currently has it running at 28 heat dissipation, and post patch, will remain the same. The nerf on the stock 9M really comes from the pulse lasers doing more heat.

Let's give you an example.
Say I have a Founder's Catapult with 2 LL's (and 2 JJ's), 2 ML and I've filled up the remaining crit spaces with heat sinks. 225 engine.
That's 9 x 1 + 12 (3 LA, 3 RA, 3 LT, 3 CT- having any weapon in the side torsos means 3 DHS max) x 2 = 9 + 24 = 33 effective.
The same 21 heat sinks at 1.4 is 29.4 effective- that is, I heat up worse with 1.4 all round than engine 1.0 + external 2.0 HS.

2.0 made heat management irrelevant:
So they tested some more and found 1.4 to be a good compromise:
Don't knock it 'til we tried it.
My DHS Commando will now have what amounts to 14 SHS instead of 20. It's a nerf, but even with the current DHS bug it was already getting to a point where I didn't have to even bother with heat management with a 3xMPL load-out, just keep the trigger depressed.
And I`m guessing as well, most complaining about DHS never played MW4 with NovaKittys running around with 7 ERLL and one-shot coring even slightly damaged Atlas`s. Never saw a Novacat shut down from a couple alpha strikes. Thats why we took to arming them, and legging them so they`d cripple around lol. They`d have to suicide to get a respawn.
