The strange thing about is, that whenever I turn towards the near out of bounds area of the map, my fps recovers, only to tank whenever I turn back to the "in" area.

I exited a game after only playing one game, but left the Mechlab open and did other, unrelated stuff.
Later, which seems to have been right before I would have been signed out due to inactivity, I launched another game and my FPS were extremely low.
After restarting the MWO client and entering a match, my FPS were back to normal.

This has been around for sometime. Acknowledged by the Devs. I submitted a ticket way back during closed beta and the reply (altho I cant find it now) was that this was a known issue caused by a memory leak and that they (PGI) were working on the issue.
Yes it still happens. As has been posted, after a few games (hard to judge the exact number required for individual players) is to close the client and restart. i generally restart after a couple of hours or 8 to 10 games.

I notice just about everytime when I get the 4 fps bug, it brings up odd things....
Like on the RIVER map for example, if I start out at the bottom city, and I look away from the center of the map, I am back up to 60 fps.. But the closer I look towards the map, it goes down to the 4.. and visa versa, when I start up at the top city, and I look away from the center of the map, again its 60 fps, but down to 4 when I try to look anywhere near the battle or center of the map.
If it was our computers, I would think it would be 4fps no matter where I look, so because on all these maps when I am looking away and things work fine, but when I look towards the center it is froze, it gives me the idea it is something to do with the map and the amount of something being used in there, resource wise or something.
Or maybe I am just ******* in the wind

Noticed the same thing.
They are never going to fix it.

Running around in the backfield of caustic and away from the center of the map its smooth sailing and higher fps. Even with 7 enemy mechs down and probably 5 of ours remaining it becomes slideshowwarrior: online when looking towards the center of the map; and its not always towards where the brunt of players are.
Sometimes its the area near the base in Frozen on the side with two entry points to the cave system.

With the current patch (no custom cfg, re-installed just before OB), on all other maps, I'm seeing 50-60 fps before combat, and in the 30-40 range when it really slows down (close brawls, and even then drops below 40 are rare).
Forest Colony: I can only breach the 40s when I am standing still. General movement is in the 20s, and combat can reach the single digits. Especially in the creek with the twin culverts. More than one other mech in there and I'm watching the fight at 5fps.
That map has always been my computer's Waterloo.
And while we are on the subject: Night vision in the cave gives me a nearly completely black screen.

Nothing to do with new patches thought. In fact it was worse when I started few months back,

Since the alternate version works just fine, it's clear that Forest Colony -can- be fixed, but I have no idea what it would take.

sys specs:
gtx 280
phenom II X2 550 BE
16 Gb of ram
installed on a samsung 830 SSD
The issue HAS to be something with the map because im not affected in any of the other maps.
