We stood side by side and shot at a mountain slope roughly 150m away. The spread appeared identical. I wasn't able to test beyond 150m, but considering how much the artemis spread beyond 150, there's no reason to believe it would help at a greater range either.
I'm under the impression that one of two possibilities exist:
1) SRM +Artemis is bugged and not working properly. Perhaps the recent nerf to artemis somehow affected SRMs to the point of forcing them to work like standard SRMs
2) The difference is so neglible that it's unnoticeable and therefore worthless as an upgrade.
Whatever the case, it is in no way worth the upgrade cost, slots, tonnage and increase in ammo cost. -- at least for SRMs.

I'm considering trying out some SRM6s with Artemis attached, does the spread tighten significantly enough to warrant the extra weight?

They do significantly close the grouping, but I honestly think SRM4's performed the best. 6's still bulky, heavy and run hot, eat too much ammo and spread a bit. The 4's on the other hand have a much tighter spread with Artemis, less ammo, heat, and half the criticals.

It seems ineffective to add it on anything other than SRM 6. Just because 1 ton and 1 slot in addition gets most out of SRM 6. SRM 4 and even more at SRM 2 are only semi-good the 1 ton/slot hits hardest for the smaller versions.

So far found that with Artemis I could rather consistently get a 5th missile in on a target where I usually was able to only get 4 out of SRM6. At point blank ranges you could get 6 in before aswell, but with Artemis you can get 1-2 extra to damage same location.
With SRM4s you could get more damage into same location, though actually being able to land all 4 seemed just the same with or without Artemis.
On SRM2s I didn't see almost any difference to be honest (tested this the least though).
So my overall view is that if you're using anything below SRM6, don't bother with Artemis. You can land your missiles about the same anyway, might not get them to hit the same location is all. With SRM6 you can usually get 1 more missile into the target than without Artemis.

I'd try it myself, but I'm still pinching pennies for an XL engine first.

Come close to my Atlas with 3 SRM 6s (+Artemis) and say that...

It's all min/maxing. From a min/max perspective Artemis isn't optimal, you're better off with more launchers or more ammo.
On the other hand, if you are talking about 100 tons of stompy death, and lots of launchers and ammo aren't really an issue... SRMS with Artemis can be downright nasty.

They seem to have lost that now. My friend claims the SRM6 has a tighter spread than it used to, but I don't really think the system is worth its expense anymore.
That being said, it is also not worth it to me to spend 500k to strip it out.

we have yet to acquire a solid evaluation on the Artemis effect on the SRM that are accompanied with a record data that can be analyzed in detail, so we're still relying on the word of mouth of various players.. of which they come in both flavor so.. god knows which one to follow except by testing it out ourselves.

conclusion: they're not working
i know a lot of people have said "oh it's so much better with artemis now", and i can't help but wonder if any of them have actually tried it without artemis, or if they're comparing from memory against srm behavior prior to the patch that introduced artemis
