Prizes:
No MC or C-Bills. If PGI is offering anything to the winner, it should be a skin, s/he could use until the next tournament is over.

How often:
I voted for once a month, but to keep it something special, once every three months would be more appropriate.

As soon, as we know more about the future of this project, I will decide if I enter the competition.

I agree the winner gets a skin till next time then has to defend it, would be pretty sweet .

Agreed that the prize should be a cosmetic item, or maybe at a push, a single week's premium-time (all of which cost MC anyway, so it's basically the same thing as giving away MC).

* A unique, Trial by Fire skin (black with flames like a T-Bird :)) would be pretty cool and even though it might be a ballache for the art team to do a variation for every chassis that makes the Trial Mech rotation, would be really good for the player-community, and would draw people in (only one TbF skin per winner in the entire game? Hell yeah).

<New Player in-game> "How do i get that black skin with the flames?"

<Leet guy> "Get on the community forums and win the monthly Trial by Fire tournament mate..."

If such a prize was chosen, it would make sense to make a skin for each mech in the Trial rotation, so that the winner receives the skin applicable to his choice of Trial mech (ie; If the winner runs a trial Cat-C1, the skin is applied to Cats, for example).

A simple, black base-skin with flames motif would be pretty easy to knock-up each month for the current crop of tiral mechs as well, so it shouldn't tax the art team too much, if at all.

* A TbF bobblehead would be ok too, and easier to make since the same model could be used in any mech, and it would be more work-efficient to do, since Imho the prize should be utterly unique, not something you can also buy, but only available by winning TbF, to increase the exclusivity factor & make winning worth something, and to make new players want to become skilled enough to have a chance..

* I'd agree with making it Monthly, gives people chance to learn the trial mechs, and to ensure there's a new rotation each time, plus if a thing occurs too often, you don't look forward to it enough imho.

Also, if you did go with a skin as the prize, it would give the art team enough time to produce a skin for each trial mech to make sure there's a prize-skin available every month, without drawing any significant time from the core work of making content for the rest of the game.

An Icon to put on your mech and forum profile/sig that with what number of wins you had. Also what trial by fire match was won.

example trial logo with a number saying trial by fire competition 5 with 2 wins.

C-bill rewards would be nice for 3-1 place.

MC if given should be small. Say enough to buy a mech bay or two.

There are some amazing pilots out there in the world - amongst them metagamers like Goonswarm.
I fear that if you make this about MC, it will instantly lose it's appeal to 95% of your subscribers, as it will be the province of a small elite, who will snowball their capabilities through winfarming.

A staged ranking ladder might be nice, with C-Bills, since they can be had by any who put in the work.

Thanks in advance for your feed-back! We have some new surprises for contestants and some other cool stuff which we will announce in the near future!

I would like to point out that after reading OP I still have absolutely no idea what this is about and what I would be voting about.

MC provides tangible value to winning a tournament; WoT runs for gold prizes, and their model seems quite profitable (not that I'd recommend implementing some of their "balances").

I'll go with fluff for a reward. Every month for now, fewer later on once the game gets going. I would rather the game not evolve to be about the tournament. Eventually we'll be in a full war with the clans. Should be a festival for a few weeks every year, imo.

Winner gets a skin applique similar to the "kill" markers on WWII fighter pilots. This is a subtle but noticeable way to mark those who have won without giving an advantage to someone who is already ahead of the curve. I would add the caveat that the applique (be it a mech silhouette or a Star or whatever) be automatically added to the winning mech and _only_ the winning mech although perhaps a off color (say bronze) one added to the player's other mechs?

As a lot of people have already mentioned, I think some sort of vanity item would be great, as well as c-bills, or a small amount of MC would be good for tourney prizes.

*edit* the prize money shouldn't be a huge amount though.

I like the champions decal idea that a lot of people are voicing. My addition to this idea would be have a specific emblem for each tournament. Rather than only keeping it until the next tournament, have stay nice and shiny clean until the next tournament. After your champion status has expired show it as battle worn with burn marks or holes or some such. A way for players to say "I was the champ once." Perhaps also, have different locations to display the badges for people who win more than once.

Well, it could be an additional Mech-Bay slot or two... or four. Lets say, that the winner can choose something that is equivalent to MCs. Skin is also nice and a huge load of C-Bills is in my eyes a given. Its like Solaris, right? Maybe even a Mech that is equivalent to an omni (free mounting or at least so much slots, that it doesn't matter) - still, the player must buy this mech through earnings, because it will be expensive.

They need to join the E-Sports side of the house with cash payouts and sponsors for the pro-teams. All games need to be streamed to TwitchTV or JustinTV with championship games played at places like E3 and Cons. The Halo 3 Competition 2012 grand prize is 1,000,000
http://www.planetxbo...o_3_Competition Not saying they need to offer prizes like Microsoft can put up but offering 10,000 would be a huge boon for advertisement across the net.

Ya if it was out of bate. A lot of new people already have trouble with the game as is. Little lone getting a wave of new ones. Till they fix some of the the major bugs and bring back some of the old features like Knock downs, weather changes, ect.
