Why? Or how?

The only way it seems you can block someone is to friend them first. It doesn't make any sense, and there are people I don't want to encounter.

In-game. I go to blocked, and there is no option for entering a name.

Well, you can block people on your friends list... but you need to add them as a friend first.

It certainly would be nice to be able to note down some a-hat's name to block them once out of match.

@OP: to add people to your block list in the game client right now you have to add them as a friend first and then, on your friends list, click on their name, and then you can choose to add them to your block list. This does not prevent you from dropping with them or seeing their chat messages in game, however, it just prevents them from seeing when you're online and sending you private messages through the game client.

Well they need to make it so you can add in direct to ignore and prevent launching with them or seeing them that should be the overall purpose of ignore it mean you want nothing more to do with someone for the duration of the ignore.

It is not likely it will prevent them from launching with you. A system like that could easily be abused. It should however block their chat during game.

Yeah, a block shouldn't prevent dropping with someone. It should only prevent any and all communication within the game.

Just because they're an [redacted] in chat doesn't mean they're bad at the game. Besides, drop-blocking would extend queue times even further.
