While a player's faction rank is increased through playtime and accomplishments command roles are still decided by the players. A community of faction players will be able to see who the leaders are based not by their loyalty score but through actual combat. Some players may think that only rank matters but a good community will know that some of the captains are better commanders than the generals.

Active players in a faction should keep in touch with the community. They should know the players and their abilities and not leave role assignment to be decided by rank alone.

The built in faction system helps insure that it is the people playing the game that are assisting the community. People who actually play the game are rewarded with the chance to do more. Players earn their position in the community, it can not be given to or declared.

I believe that younger players like Jopo are more likely to play as a lone wolf or a merc and be less likely to invest in a lore and bore faction.

Edit: found this tid-bit in the Developer Q&A 2

Quote

Paul - Rank does NOT equal command during a match. You do not get to tell people what to do because you’re senior rank, you do not make important faction calls, etc. Rank is purely a reward system for consistent and successful gameplay.[/color]

Soulfire wanted to stir up the original post and the general Chain of command concerns with the factions.

The thread has for the most part wound down into player introductions.

Is true to a point , as vet pilots of mech warrior games will tell you recruiting is easy , keeping them and training them and getting them to show up isnt so easy B-) but lone wolves become bored and youll find it is easier than you think to get 100s if not 1000s doing just what you say and loving it , making websites , paying for talk and play servers, chat servers, make rosters ,email troops so on ..

Hey guys!

I started playing MPBT EGA on GEnie in 1993. I was appointed HXO three years later. It all gets a little foggy after that. <BG>

I have no aspirations. Im just happy to see some familiar names on this forum.

Cheers!

I'm sure someone has said this but to avoid confusing newer players the OP is just talking about a MPBT Solaris clan from the mid/late 1990s.

He's not a dev or dev appointed and has no control over MWO's Free Worlds League (House Marik).

Just a fellow player doing player stuff.

Howdy all,

Names Ito, played the game for a while and I like most of the other players who have seen these types of resurrection come and go
am holding my breath and waiting.

After wadding through almost all the posts here I am glad to see that the "I am the HL" storm has ended.

IMHO I believe that we should sit back and wait while the game developes (if it does) before making any claims.

I hope that we learn from past mistakes and not have egos stepping over reason.

Anyways, glad to see old names and really glad to see that we are not all dead yet.

Hey guys,

I have no Rank, I've never played MBPT3025 and after MW4 I didn't jump over to X-Box as for the the controlers just didn't do it for me.

I have already posted a novel about my past history with Battletech and have stated that I have just about all the source books as well as over a Regt of assembled, painted, NON CLICK mini's down stairs carefully sealed in an old fishing tackel box with all the loving care you would give to your childs first baby pictures.

I'm in the Atlantic TZ

Availability evenings (after 9pm MY TIME until about midnight and 9pm until say 2ish my time on weekends) why? because I won't sit at a computer for hours and hours while my son is awake and wanting to do stuff like learn his alphabet and numbers and go play outside.

Interests, I'll fill the role of what's needed if I am with a group that I am going to play with all the time or if I end up in Pugs, Medium Heavy works for me, either range or infighting, doesn't matter.

I will say, when I first read the initial post and I saw that the "OLD ROSTERS" were being called for I became a little worried. Why you ask?, well it seems to me that no matter what game I have played you always end up with those who feel that they are the elite and are better than everyone else and MOST of the time it is usually a group of players who have been playing together in other games for a long while. These are the players who will close ranks and not let the newer people have a fair chance at getting the job done. They are the ones who sit there and will wait until someone starts to move up the leader board and then try and cherry pick them from what ever group they are with at the time.

Now I am fairly sure that most of the old players (30+) like me have moved beyond this (not picking on younger players but trying to show the difference between TT players and those who only know computer versions, no offence intended, some younger players are past it as well) and will help get new people going and having fun and I am certain that those who feel that they are the elite will go and do their own thing as well.

That's when the light went on, really, in reguards to House Ranks, no player will recieve any position of power within the structure of a house and the only power that they will have is what is given them by other players, in essance, guilds. So really, if you want the old rosters go for it, if you want to get all your old friends in here and form your own unit, great, if you and your friends turn out to be a bunch of snots expect complaints to be lodged and ignore lists to be filled.

I hope we can over come all of this, in the battletech universe there were many mechwarriors, but many of them were just average pilots and gunners. The stories everyone knows are about the few who have an aptitude for mech warfare, the other 99% of the battles were fought by average level warriors. I think in this game that there will be many many average level players and everyone needs to remember that. Also, a little bit of lessons learned from life, a team of showoffs will rarely beat a team who works hard and covers each others backsides.

What does this boil down too? asking for the old rosters was a mistake as that makes people think you are trying to build your elitest groups, If you had asked people to go to their old rosters and try to contact the people on that list and see who was interested in joining this game then I doubt there would be any complaints at all.

I have no issue with getting organized, I have no issue with an outside forum being set up for further discussion specific to house Marik and I have no issue witha Vent/TS/rogerwilco etc channel being set up at this time either for people to talk. I tip the hat at the effort and will do what I can to support it. We could get lances, companies, even battalions set up before the launch and if enough people have Mech4 mercs, then we could even host a few games to get a feel for how everyone works together and maybe to offer pointers on how to improve (note the word OFFER). However I will not submit to a group of Elitests and simply be a walking extension of their armour so that I die and they get the kills.

I know, quite the rant right, but most of you know what I am talking about with the elitests. So lets get this party started, We can do this in the nature that Nitehawk intended but if people start to become elitests we should be able to either remove them from the group or we need to be able to put them down hard.

Anyways, that's my two cents worth, love it or hate it.

I really need to do more digging, I know I have my old unit structure from the good ol' days somewhere! Of course, if Nehrul found his in the attic, then those are them . I used to have a giant Excel sheet with the entire structure of House Marik from 3025 which I'm really hoping to find though.

Handle: Firebolt / FirboltRMD (have used both)

Last Rank: General (Ret....long ago, but dusting off the mechs as I speak)

Last Command Position: District Executive Officer, Ryerson Military District

MPBT History: Table top, Mechwarrior 2-4+, MechCommander 1-2, MPBT:3025 (oh how I miss it), ISWARS (minimal), Neveron, MWLL

Timezone: Pacific Standard Time (-8 GMT)

Interest: Combat, Command, Tactics*

* Not sure how many of you remember the liberation of the FWL territories from House Steiner in MPBT:3025, my crowning command achievement there with the help of so many of you veterans to coordinate, might also remember Snowblind helping command it, and a special thanks goes to him for letting me use his login after he left for the day since mine hadn't been upgraded by admin staff to display my General rank! :P ah the good ol' days

OK, so here's the info asked about at the top:

Last Rank: Most in the FWLM of the mid-late 90's knew me as Colonel kubilai as I was assisting Hawk009 with the battles, communication, etc. and was later promoted to General

Last Regiment: Don't have that info

MPBT History: Mechwarrior 1 through Mechwarrior4 including NetMech

Timezone: MDT

Available: I'm quite available as I've retired both from the former FWL and RL job

Interest: Both piloting and Command

Thanks

On a side note, the "4 line maximum" signature is not conducive to those of us that have too many titles

Damn, thats an old roster IA, but there may be some even older by a year or two lurking about on floppy somewhere in my office from when Wlkabout and I started the FWL on AOL. I'll have to take a look. If I can find it Ill post it up for some chuckles. I wonder if Motown, the original DCM leader is lurking about... Thats how we got started in the first place way back when. Be good to see him come out of the woodwork. Im gonna drop Wlkabout a line and get him to post his old *** over here. He'll get a kick out of this I bet.

Mechbeth

****, if I find them, Ill have to actually install a floppy on this box lmao.
