"You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run."
Your team is outnumbered. Your weapons are gone. Ammo is expended. 4+ enemies versus one or two defenders..and your best weapon is an AC/2.
Why are you still fighting? Embrace reality. Your assault mech with two medium lasers left, or your weaponless Commando, isn't going to save the day. For most matches, the moment the enemy outnumbers you by 3 or more 'Mechs, the match is almost certainly not going in your favor. So, embrace defeat. Be a smart mercenary, and start thinking about your wallet, not your pride.
Run! Hide. Announce to all that your base is open for the taking, that you won't defend it, and no one need any more repair costs. if your fellow survivors don't agree, too bad for them. Leave them to their fate, and take care of yourself. if they are with you, group up in a good position as far from your base as possible, tell your enemy they can have an unresisted capture, or risk damage by coming after you.
End the game, save your repair costs, free up the already dead players 'Mechs so they can get them into another game quicker instead of them waiting futily.
No need to drag out a boring circle chase or hide and go seek hunt. Capping gives a better reward, so let the enemy enjoy that. Your dead teamamtes aren't going to be hurt by it. Getting one more mech kill, if you are lucky, isn't worth the risk. and your near certain destruction.
And by the way, if you are on the lucky winning team in a 6-0 curbstomping. why are you running around looking for the last two opponents? Go capture the base already, and end the game. If a defender is crazy enough to defend his base, he'll pay the price. Otherwise, go cap, end the match, and enjoy the benefits.
Profit is the goal, and no one profits from pointless defenses.

Then probably come on MWO Forums to write a perectly articulated post about how they lose c-bills and the game is unplayable without premium.

1) Am I nearly dead? Internals damaged, armour gone?
If not, I'm gonna keep fighting. So long as I have armour and a weapon I can and will try and kill someone. If I'm not likely to survive another hit, then...
2) Anyone at their base?
If not, might as well contest it to see if I can cap it and win. If they can cap faster, so be it. If they are sat on their base... I'll just go find a comfy corner to sit in while they cap and win. If it's a 1v1 final encounter, I'll fight to the death.

I also have no problem with elite pilots saying. "You shall win over my molten chassis!!" too.
Either way. The choice is yours.

For the most part I will fight to the death, however if the game is just so bad that there isn't a hope in hell I will some times power down and hope the opposing team has some honor but I never expect any. Powering down or tactically falling back to a safe area was/are valid tactics of battletech so normally if someone announces that they are powering down I won't go out of my way to core them but rather let them be.
BUT! In a world full of cowadoody babies I don't see much respect in the people giving up gracefully side of things

Was on River City in my Founders Cat (2xLRM15's/w 6tons ammo, 3xML, TAG)... team started on the north cap area... after a hard, tough fight and everyone around the enemies cap, the end of the battle came with me in my Cat with no LRM's left and only 3xML versus an enemy Awesome with a Catapult lobbing LRM's at me...
Did I "surrender" and quit the match?? Nope... charged that Awesome using buildings to help cover me from some of the LRM fire and took him down... then flanked around where I had seen LRM fire coming from, caught the enemy Cat in the side then outmanueverd him and took him down as well...
You never know when you'll win the match... even if I had been killed... I darn sure was going to make the enemy team earn a win if they took me out...

In another instance, I was the last man. The other team had already announced they were a premade and flashed their name and website. We had 0 kills total including myself. I announced surrender and they told me to power down. I powered down and watched them cap our base. One of their team got trigger happy and shot at me. Another on their team reprimanded them by shooting their mech. It was an honorable battle.

I finished the HBK pretty quickly, but he had stripped a lot of armor. Fighting against the Cata, I lost my right leg to his four med lasers, but managed to finish him off with an SSRM cockpit shot. My max speed was 20kph, no streak missiles left, merely 2 small lasers.
The AWS was left, and with cover and skillful use of JJ, I managed to evade the large lasers arcing out, tearing hungrily at my internals. The others on my team called "good game!" as I saw the twin LL on his arm arc out toward me.
Tapping the jumpjets, I managed to take the brunt of the blow on my left leg, and as I came down, expected the lasers to finish me, so sent out my small lasers hoping to get through the remaining armor on his CT. As the finish screen flashed, I expected the inevitable "defeat" message.
Instead, it said "victory".
The moral of the story is:
Pain heals, chicks dig scars, and glory lasts forever.

That isn't a "sure win" at least not in my book and I wouldn't blame you for giving that a shot, because as you demostrated, it's possible to pull it out.
But when your armless Yen Lo Wang is up against 5 mechs, give it up bro, its over.

As for me, I will fight. And if I have nothing but a weaponless dented hulk to fight with, I'll defiantly limp my way to the enemy cap.

Not that I've even piloted my Yen Lo Wang yet... but even then... "give it up bro"?? Never... again, they want the win, I'm going to make sure they earn it and not roll over... yup, they may annihilate me and give me a huge repair bill... but still... I will always do MY best and go for that win or to take as many of them down as I can before getting cored...

Silly I know... then again, fighting is much more fun IMO than powering down and cowering...

Even so, if I cycle through the targets and see a red core, I will most likely go for the kill anyway - but that almost never works out while you have 7-8 mechs smackin' on ya all at once poundin' ya from different directions.
See my sig for summary.
