If I want to put 20Tons of jump jets on my Atlas so I can leap over a skyscraper, that's 20 tons less weaponry or armor I can carry. The weight-thrust ratio of JJ might need to be tweaked, but I don't see any reason to add arbitrary limitations.

It's not the thrust that's the problem, it's the weight. Canon dictates that Jumpjets are only usable on certain mechs because those mechs have frames that are specifically reinforced to handle not only the takeoff, but also the landing. That's why most jump capable mechs are light or medium and why they usually have very flexible and/or robust legs and often no arms. Just think about the forces involved with a 60ton object landing from a height of a couple hundred feet. Upon impact that object is exerting forces well beyond its normal load capacity and it's combat, you don't have time to worry about a soft landing. Got an arm on that mech with a nice big AC or PPC mounted on it? That shoulder joint better be built to withstand 3-8x the weight of that arm or it's gonna sheer off when you land.
You can't just pull out some guns or armor and slap a rocket on the back of a mech, it doesn't work that way. The jumpjets will tear free from the frame on takeoff or the legs will buckle under the stress of landing. Simple physics. Jumpjets should only be useable on certain mechs or specific variants that are build to have them. They should not be a customizable option. Weapons and armor you can tear out and replace with a bit of work, but adding jumpjets would require a serious overhaul and modification of the frame's integral structures. It's like trying to put a 2ton diesel engine in a VW bug...it's possible, but not without some serious alterations.

3025 it felt like your *** was glued to a missile taking off. You just shot off into the air and it was violent, loud, and hard to hit anything.
MWLL, not as violent, but shakey enough where players can't really jump snipe reliably,

All mechs have the option of fitting JJs
Mechs that don't come with them standard have to be retrofitted (extra cost, but relatively easily done compared to other things)
JJs actually have a REAL DISADVANTAGE such as loss of control mid-flight due to incoming fire, poor weapon aiming control mid-flight, HEAT, and require SIGNIFICANT skill training to keep from killing yourself... and of course... their weight, which usually means losing 1 or 2 good weapons on your mech.
See what I did there? Problem solved! Next question!

also, I agree with Lorebot (to a degree... pletty of examples of custom fit JJs) & VYCanis

If you burn it all rocketing up you sure as hell better pay an insane price when you smash into the ground like a moron.

save enough fuel to slow yourself and you can recover from the fall and be moving quickly.
meanwhile if you don't slow your fall, right before impact, your mech automatically fires a reserve burst before hitting the ground resulting in a safe but very rough landing.
reserve burst might only kick in about 6m off the ground, to allow for glorious DFAs to occur at 10m

I don't know why you seem to think this is going to be such a hardcore sim.
