Kind of a interesting concept of only on ones that are meant for them. I kind of like that. I mean those structures would be built to withstand the forces of the jumpjet i would guess.

Sure, its the very most important function of some mechs.

How could we not have jump jets? Especially in an urban area?

Integral to Battletech. Jump Jets are needed. And no, they shouldn't let you "skate".

They may not let you skate but they need to be directional, as this is certainly cannon

Full, directional Jumpjets probably aren't a good idea (i.e. the Jumpjets in MW2), but we definitely need them in game. Preferably, restricted to certain mechs.

In the promo trailer, the Jenner is clearly using jump jets. They look smoothly done.

No to skating, yes to restriction.

Hey, if your jets are strong enough to alter the momentum of a 50 ton mech in the air, more power to ya, I'm all for it.

This conversation makes me want to pilot a Wraith (one of my favs) :)

I have a question, how many jump jets would an Atlas need if it could jump …. and how far ten feet.

Well a variant of the Kodiak mech has JumpJets and it is a 100 ton mech. I think the JJ weigh like 6 tons or something.

Skate?

Yeah, I had to put that there :)
But anyways, There should be complete freedom to put Jump Jets to any mech there is.

MW3 Jump Jets were absolutely crazy, and MW4 Jump Jets, while considerably slower, could still be abused for some rather absurd moon-jumps. Personally, I just don't think Mechs should be able to leap a football field in a single bound... but that's just me.

I hate to be the guy that points to MechAssault as the game that did it right (because it did far too many things wrong), but Jump Jets in that series were surprisingly tame. You only ever used them to climb obstacles; if you wanted to duck and weave, you were better off using fancy footwork on land with a building/mountain for cover.

Keep them weak and keep them restricted to certain Mechs.

Care to explain your position?

As far as I can tell, if you can't actually maneuver with the jump jets and your only choice is up, then all you get is poptarting. If you can actually jump laterally, then you can use them to hop over obstacles. That IS the point of jump jets, after all.
