Ah.... I suspect that seeing over hills, around corners, and behind you will give a tactical advantage. Hopefully they will at the very least keep it segregated (even though that sounds like it will fracture the community).

Or what about those pesky side mirrors, does it take away from some of the immersiveness? Ruining the ambiance, eh?
What about mini vans with backup cameras, is it not plausible that this amazing technology could still exist in the year 3050? Or a tiny camera on a wire 5 feet above you - WOW that's impossible even though 100 ton walking robots aren't.
Holly crap! I'm going to patent the first tiny camera on a wire 5 feet above you that hooks into your retinas so all the people that find walking hard and losing their perspective can use 3PV on themselves!

That's too bad, too, cause even though it would have been disorientating, it would be crazy to go through; landing on the ground with a loud thump and crash.
god i could imagine the vertigo complaints and etc. that would make you nautious to watch directly.

Instead of breaking the game design with 3PV, which anyone who's played these games in the last two decades knows breaks balance with camera cheats, maybe you should, I don't know,
MAKE A TUTORIAL THAT EXPLAINS ALL THESE THINGS?
Just a thought. Jesus, who's in charge of this project?
I kept telling them to put in a blank training room with target dummies where you can pilot your Mech around, shoot, and edit controls. How hard would this be to put in? They could throw this room/area together in an afternoon then just edit the client to allow controls to be changeable while IN a match. That's about all you'd need to do to make this game 10x better for newbs. If you really wanted to get fancy; you could have the option to fight nearly braindead enemy NPCs(for a tutorial purpose, not actual difficulty) and/or target practice turrets that shoot back at you once "disturbed".

Moderators, please delete posts like this. This kind of response really doesn't add to the discussion. This person could of gone in to the details as to why it's the "worst idea ever" but was way too lazy to do so.

Namely:
*Poptarting
*Corner peeking
*Clear feedback of shots to the back making assault vs light fights less interesting.
*Splitting player-base
*Loss of all that immersion from the cockpit: You guys put a lot of effort into that It would be a shame to let it go to waste.

I think the key point here is that they will be separating 3rd and 1st person players, so one does not gain an advantage over the other.
People can attack it all they want. From being an advantage to being easy mode but what it really is is a way to widen the player base and thus income base. And if a wider easy mode 3rd person sub version of the game makes it far more financially viable for the first person simulation game to exist as a free to play then people should be thankful for it because it delays the day the product becomes persistently cash flow negative and gets shut down.

Except this would literally ruin our fun if allowed into the game in particular forms. If you could use it in actual games, then those who use it would have a tactical advantage. You'd be forced to use it to compete.
Did you ever play Mechwarrior 4?

But you can't tell what kind of lasers, or whether you're being hit by streaks or ballistics.
That matters? You're getting hit in the back. It's probably more important to do something about that.

You can keep saying that but it won't make it true.
The forum may not be an exact demographic mirror of the player base no, but it is definitely representative of the player base. you cannot tell me you truly believe that 1200 or so users that have voted so far are an insignificant sampling of the MWO player base. You can't be that stupid.
People are treating what is said on these forums to be representative of the entire community which it is most definitely not. PGI Knows what this percentage but it is most certainly not anywhere near 100% much less even 50%. It's stupid to think that a forum poll that can also be gamed illegitimately is somehow an accurate representation of the player base. Especially regarding a feature targeted at players who are not even part of the immediate player base yet.

If new players are having trouble adjusting to the torso twisting mechanic, shouldn't the obvious solution be to add a tutorial so that they can become accustom to it? Would adding a tutorial or training mode be more work than adding a 3rd person mode?
Why make such a fundamental change to the excellent gameplay over an issue like this? Why split the community?

3rd person wouldnt give you the ability to see around corners, just over hills, which isn't really that impressive as much of these games are more about scouting/line of sight then being able to randomly peek at your enemy over a hill (not to mention, with so much widespread cover, i don't see a scenario i've ever been in where i said 'man, i sure wish i could peak over this hill without getting shot!)

The majority agree with you. Openingly allowing this would destroy the nature of the game and the immersion that you're piloting a Mech. I always liked 3PV in the campaigns but for a multiplayer... I think it should stick to the realism in PvP combat.

thanks for agreeing with us, that's exactly what we are saying, there are plenty of 3rd person shooters out there to suit their needs. We definitely don't need it here.
