For #3 I'm pretty sure TT is played in 3rd person.

TT also let you control multiple mechs, allowed one mech to SHOOT at multiple mechs and you were able to mount rear firing weaponry to shoot at the pesky Scout mechs tickling your backside .. .

BTW: No to 3rd Person.

Still talking about the 3rd view ?

Got this idea , but i m a bit stupid :( so maybe is another bad idea !

3rd view only showing the top ?

So it s usefull only for close combat and manoeuvre ! HUm ?

I would have to say no to 3rd person view. Keep the game in cockpit view as much as possible(no 3rd person when you fall down). I'm ok with 3rd person on destruction, though an explosion in your face when your mech blows up would be cool. Animate the pilot to react to it as well.

Garth: "Very emotional reaction from users in forums, we suggest they look at this logically like we have, and understand from a profit viability view that by having 3rd person view we may then be able to appeal to WoT's player base.."

Is that a real quote from Garth?

Ok sure, maybe some WoT player will be like> What!? They added 3rd person? Imma gonna play dat ****! Shut up and take my money!

Mean while in the Innersphere, citizens are like> What!? They added 3rd person? Imma not gonna play dis ****! Shut up and gimme my money back.

I didn't even like WoT :(

Breaking a key design pillar that sold this game to a large percentage of people then trying to force it on them under the guise of "logic" and expecting some not to get emotional.....
If that really is a quote (I have not seen the post yet) then it sounds like the same logic swtor used...."let us make a game just like wow so we appeal to their player base but with an awesome ip.... Yeah that worked well :/ (and wow had a FAR bigger playerbase to steal from)
To then ignore over 90% of the people who visit the official forums (far more then just those that post regularly and vote in every other poll) and push ahead with it blindly..... Well at least you made money so far I guess, I hope those thousands of players who have invested so much money in WoT just drop it so they can come here and spend all their money on a new, buggy and completely unpolished version of the game they just left and already have spent loads of money on....

If this simulator is going to be changed into an arcade type game with third person perspective, will UA (unlimited ammunition) and NH (no heat) be available in the future? I'm sure those will appeal to many in your player base. =P

Take note, I'm being facetious.

I wonder if we will have grounds to ask for founders pack refunds if they implement 3rd person (with no way to play against 1st person players only)?. After all, it is going completely against how they sold the game to us while founder packs were available.

I really hate it when vehicles in any game have the option for differing views. Why bother producing an immersive 1st person experience when you are going to make it unviable (uncompetetive) for use by pitting it against 3rd person users? For me the worst offenders for this are the Battlefield games.

A 3rd person view in MWO would help with so much more than just situational awareness. For example in a Centurion it would be much easier to judge the movement of your shield arm to block fire. Twisting to spread damage in general would have far less guesswork involved.

That is situational awareness :(
It covers an awful lot of things. (Like the whole situation)

I suppose by situational awareness I meant the tactical situation: "am I flanked?", "are more enemies incoming?" etc. You are probably correct that my use of language was wrong. I just wanted to emphasise how much an advantage 3rd person gives a player in games where locational damage is a factor.

I can't believe we still haven't had a good response from the devs, only wishy washy posts that could mean anything. It's really like they are just waiting for the outrage to blow over so that they can implement it, testers be damned. If they aren't going to listen to us, why even let us test it?

It makes sesne to scam founders out of money, but why make it open and then ignore the massive backlash? And yes, I'd 'almost' go as far as to say it's a scam when they from day one said that it was a key feature that the game was locked to first person, and then when they suckered enough of us in, just change the original concept.

How about next they just remove the throttle function, cause that is hard to master too, and then just make all weapons fire to the circle? That'd make it easier. And lets have some insta-kill knife attacks in too, so we can appeal to CoD players aswell.

Catering to the lowest denominator is never the answer to a "problem". People will eventually learn to use their HUD, radar, and common sense in piloting their mechs. Part of the game - survival - depends on more than just positioning your mech and pulling the damn trigger: The good pilots have and maintain situational awareness.

While having an optional setting that allows us to play against only persons who choose 1st person could work, I have to disagree with splitting the player base in this fashion. I think you folks overstate the existence of this problem.

In any event, if its offered, it needs an option that allows us to skip playing with those people who choose to use 3rd person. The exploits that existed in the past are a real concern, and I do not have faith in any company's ability to eliminate the problems.

If we're forced to play with people who can use 3rd person, I am going to do what I did in the past - move on to the next game. While you've already got me for $60.00, PGI, you will not be getting any more. I was ecstatic when you folks originally said there would not be a 3rd person. I felt - "Alright! Finally, they get it!" The fact that this is even a discussion, now, is a huge turnoff for me.

They are definately panicking... First they turned off users online ingame, now they turned off users online in forums. As of now you can only see yourself online. These guys are beginning to stink real bad. Secrecy and deleting and locking threads make it worse, not better. Treat people like mugs tells me this is not going to end well. i'd post this in a new thread but we all know what would happen then. Don't expect any positives from ignoring and segregating your forum posters, keeping them now in the dark just adds to the insult.

Really.
Turning off the forum user read-out?

I see matchmaking all over again is what I see..."Here's third person, for limited testing, and as we promised we'll be adding the ability to choose only playing against first or third person later, when we get around to it..or maybe not, maybe y'all will just get used to it before then, the diehards will move along, and we can enjoy the big bucks with our new casual fanbase as Facebook picks up our game."
