There are far far more important things you need to spend development time on than this.

For everyone freaking out about the third person camera needs to chill out...

Russ said "When you go into matchmaking it will be an option to only play against teams using third person cameras"

Thus if you are hard core (Most of us are) we will only be playing against others not using the third person view.

Seriously do your research before you look like an a$$hat

Option like this separates the community over something that was stated when panhandling for money that it would not be in the game. Option or not it should not be in this game. I supported this game over another due to the fact the game would be more sim like and not more FPS like. If that's the direction they're going then I can see what direction I'll go.

Great! for spectator mode.

Great for spectator mode only if dead players can't talk to those still alive. Otherwise, might as well have Cortana there to give hints and keep eyes on your 6.

As far as 3rd person goes, just please no. The reasons have been given repeatedly, no need for more. All I know is that I have monthly $ set aside for this game. 3rd person will make sure I don't spend a single penny more.

I think the clear trend for the forum posters on the whole, is that a training mode should be the way to help newer plays get a feel for the game. If it is a control issue, which is the impression I get from the podcast, then I see no downside to a tutorial showing them to people. Also some tweaks to the HUD couldn't hurt either, more info shown in a clear way is always welcome.

I'm not sure I understand this direction for the game, as I said in the other big topic, some more reasoning from the dev would be good right now. Please communicate with us.

Update on statisticalY Relevant Data:

3:25 pm EST

1008 MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM HAVE VOTED ANNNNNNND THE NUMBERS ARE CONSISTENT... 90% OF THEM SAY BAD IDEA

For those paying attention (and i hope PGI is among them) the average server population during the last period of time we could see online member numbers was between 1800 and 3000 usually averaging (by my observation) around 22-2300. Without making any Assumptions as to current number we can say that 1000 players is a statistically relevant chunk of your player base.

There are ways to do 3rd person CORRECTLY as to where it doesn't give a huge FOV advantage. (Via Camera Scoping) However if you were to copy MW3 and MW4 and just put a Hud above the mech you kill immersion with it.

Chrome Hounds had Camera Scoping. Use of a 3rd person camera along the weapons group. it had limited Perspective but gave a 3rd person feel.

IF the 3rd person view was limited to the same FOV and Blind spots as a cockpit player. Then it would work.
Good luck making that happen though.

They do need a 3rd person view. Both as a spectator with a time delay and as a pilot with limited hud. It just needs to be implemented and controlled correctly.

Will I be playing in 3rd person? Nope.

Hi, I am one of those people who haven't paid a cent for this game yet. The simple reason is: I dont trust you.

You got a 5 million dollar investment from your playerbase; whom you know are die hard fans. And after you take their money, you turn around and ask:

"3rd Person OK right?"

Actions like that make me seriously wonder how out of touch your managment is. And it makes me scared to give you money.

I think the main problem with games is the urge to grab more people; its similiar to those insecure friend hoarders on facebook. You have a loyal userbase; this is the fundamental key to longevity. Dont alienate them. Dont betray their trust. Finish what you promise.

Edit: spelling.

Ok I could be completely wrong on this, but I seem to remember a quote from a dev early in the process that stated something like the following:

"we don't want players to feel as if they are giant robots, but rather that they are the pilots of giant robots"

third person throws this concept out the window completely.

If I'm not just imagining this quote (can't find it in a quick google), then PGI is not only losing scope and direction in their development, but also proves that this game is nothing other than an arcade shooter. Had I known the game would turn in this direction, it's certainly not something I would have backed.

Keep the player in the cockpit (at all times) - and challenge the player to learn a new (classic) type of gameplay. If you make it properly and devote your vision to that idea it will prevail. Being wishy washy and waffling back and forth on ideas and core concepts like this is not a way to attract players to your game.

Dear Devs,
please reconsider this idea! Nearly noone wants it, noone needs it!
I had my issues in the first place with 1st pv, but i got used to it. And i am an absolutely average player who was poisened by console-like 3rd person-games through the last years. In GTA or Masseffect it works, but those games are everything but a simulation! MWO is one, and schould remain one!

Thanks
M

***** mouthbreathers how they cross the road I'll never know.

Dumbing the game down the lowest common denominator is a sure fire way to **** off the people that are already playing and paying and get them to leave. LOOK AFTER YOUR EXISTING CUSTOMERS FIRST. The rest will come, slowly, maybe, but they will come, and stay, and pay.

Or....make it just like any other dumbass console pandering game out there and watch those of us who backed you from the beginning BECAUSE you said you were making Mechwarrior, NOT a console friendly bunch of crap, leave.

Then...
When the windowlickers leave after 2 weeks of getting owned and the next shiny comes along that catches their eye, then you got very few people left playing, and your going to start bombarding me with ***** emails asking me to come back "please" and "try it again it's better" and "this time we listened to the players" and all that other crap that goes on, my answer will be the same to you as to them - nah, you gouged me once, broke promises, ruined the game in the name of greed, now watch it fall.

Sort yourselves out PGI, my faith in you over the last couple of weeks has been battered and I'm starting to get out of patience while watching you break up my groups, which breaks up the community, destroy DHS, ruin my LRM's, make lights OP (because that's what all the new guys are managing to finally buy and you gotta look after the new guy right?) still crash to desktop regularly, your net code is weak, and now...NOW you want to bring in 3rd person as well?

Well, from you to me, and from me to you, **** you too. Keep my $120, enjoy it. You won't get any more if your insisting on following this path to destruction.

You have until Community Warfare to sort your stuff out, and if it goes even further in the direction of dumbing the game down for windowlickers, not even that long.

For most of the reasons already listed above and more. Just no. Spectate in 3rd person view fine. Allow me to disable my cockpit interior so all I see is first person view without being framed by a mech head fine. But absolutely do not even waste dev cycles on 3rd person view. No. Hell no.

MWO in the devs words was only possible with the goodwill of the fans and founders out of their love for MW.
If the polls are anything to go by, ignoring them now to appease the 10% would damage that goodwill greatly.

Concerned about where the direction of this is all headed.

Having said that, great game, not many games got me burning the midnight oil nowadays. Even in its current state.

Before I weigh in the topic of adding a 3rd person view, please tell me fixing the netcode, hitboxes, client crashes, massive drops in performance and persistent black screen bug is higher on your to-do priority list?
