The more I think about it, the more certain I am that if 3rd person in, then I'm probably out.

They already got your money. They dont care if youre out :)

They will, because they'll likely be out of their jobs at this rate, and I hear Canada is already troubled by software development issues.

Please no, this is not Mech Assault. This is a Mech sim. 3rd person pulls you out of that experience. Just no, never, no.

Would you be opposed to added tumble mechanics for my commandos? You know, to even the playing field, and providing a more stimulating experience.

You should be able to stick to a chest-high wall. I heard that Gears of War thing was popular, let's get them on board!

3rd Person is a very bad idea if they want this game to be interesting to the competitive crowd.

Well, the engine already has a very half-baked snap to cover mechanic. Maybe it'll be just like in crysis 2, where whenever you bump the button, you die because the cover mechanic's so bad, and not needed for the twitchy, high-speed gameplay.

But I think mechwarrior could really benefit from tumbling commandos that snap to cover, and ironsight PPCs with limited auto-aim in 3rd person. We can call the mode 'phantom mech,' to fit the lore.

Ya know, I'm a solutions kind of person, so here is a solution... PGI should contact MS and Smith & Tinker about using MW4 as a tutorial game for this game since the controls are nearly identical for keyboard+mouse.

um, bad example, MW4 at least had excellent analog joystick support (yes, i still have my copy my saitek works just fine... there). i never got the hang of m/kb there and still (rhymes with "duck") with it here. on the other hand, i presume you were being a wee bit facetious, so i'll let it slide... :)

I would like to have a 3rd person view. Because personally I like to see and admire the mech i'm piloting. But that isn't the only reason I argue for having 3rd person as a feature.

I really don't think its a big deal as people make it out to be, the option to switch to 3rd person has been in every Mechwarrior game since MW2.

Despite being present in all those games. that feature didn't stop people from playing the game, or cause the universe to implode on itself.

In this day and age, servers can be made for people who want purely First Person only, and servers where people can play in 3rd person. I can definitely see new players who are completely inexperienced in Mechwarrior-style gameplay to be more inclined to jump on with the option for 3rd person view.

Its easy to tell newbies to "get used to the torso twist and watch the tutorials", but it is extremely frustrating for them to keep getting ***** because they run into things and can't maneuver, while 3 enemies are shooting them up.

It is not FUN, and this fact is compounded because new players can't buy and customise their mechs.

I myself am a veteran Mechwarrior player, having started with Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries Titanium Trilogy, and either view isn't a problem for me.

But I have tried to get some friends who are completely new to this to play, and they mostly get put off due to the frustration of maneuvering, overheating, getting scrapped over and over by gauss cats and premades.

And people who are so concerned about people being able to see and target over obstacles, this can be remedied by NOT making it possible to exploit 3rd person to see enemies or target over said obstacles. That is what a fog of war function is for.

Anyway, the view distance for this game is already FAR further than any prior MW game; in the Forest Colony map for example, I can see right to the enemy's base.

If any argument is to be made about the 3rd person view making flanking and rear attacks lose the element of surprise, remember that in Battletech canon, all mechs are supposed to have 360 degree vision from the cockpit.

But it might not be possible to do that in a game, certainly no MW game in the past has done that, so a 3rd person view is the next best substitute for it.

It should be available on trials only maybe? That would let them use it.. they could even explain it away as you're not actually driving the trial mechs....
I don't know, I do know I don't want it in the PvP game, period.

Every MW game has had terrible multiplayer that comes down to looking around hills, and jumpsniping with your phantom mech senses.

Every.
Single.
One.

I don't mind 3rd person for spectator mode but whenever you are in control of your mech it should be in 1st person. Yes, even when you fall over in collisions with other mechs (if they ever add it back in). I don't wanna see my Jenner faceplant the ground, I want to be in the mech watching my pilot brace himself during the fall, get shaken about in the impact and then fumble with the controls in a blind panic as he struggles to get the mech back on it's feet.

WHERES MUH IMMERSUNS?

I concur. 3rd persons view yes, but only in spectator mode. I mean, why have a sweet grapics engine and not let us drool over the eye candy when spectating :)

But think of how retro it will be to copy MW3, and porting it over to a not yet implemented world of tanks community model.

It'd be more retro to have a tutorial. Bonus points for having a disgruntled clan mechwarrior.

"Feel free to approach the targets if you find them difficult to hit. Your secret is safe with me, cadet. I will not tell a soul of your incompetence. Trust me."

I think this would work best on "trial" servers. There you'd only drive trial mechs against other trial mechs with the option of third person camera. It would be more like the other game and would help the new players get used to the game mechanics.

Maybe even add some heat management or other there also. Well either that or add a good tutorial that actually goes through these things... Third person could then be the first part when introducing the torso twist and movement mechanics.

MWO was the first MW game i played, i played a MMORPG before and i needed 2 games and knew how to drive my mech and switch weapon groups (a bit of reading and that was it).

There is no need of 3rd person view and imo it would kill the feeling that i enjoy while playing mwo, that i m in a big ******* mech and need some skill driving it and that I AM driving it and not just sitting there outside the mech and playing arround with it like a giant puppet master.

And I was happy to give it to them many months ago and have no regrets spending the $60.

I've gotten many, many hours of terrific gameplay over the months - longer than most games nowadays.

But it's the future money that I was more than willing to inject into MWO.

Clan mechs - I'd already decided to get them with MC. Future hero mechs? Not a problem. I'd buy the Wang if I didn't detest the look of the centurion (reminds me of a cylon) but I'd probably end up getting the Wang later down the track just to add to my mech hanger collection.

I'd bought PC Gamer just for the skin and bobblehead and never even read the mag. There was no doubt in my mind I'd be spending MC on skins and other fluff.

Over the months/years (hopefully) I'd be more than willing to spend MC on a very cheap hobby. All that, for me, is now in jeopardy.

i dont know what can be so hard to determine where your legs are going and your torso is pointing to, 1st person is the one thing that makes MW what it is ...well MW ....

If they really add 3rd camera then might as well add right click autolock .... sigh

First person to play ingame, but 3rd person for screenshots would be great. At the moment we have these beautiful 3D mech models and we don't get to see them. Having 3PP and FFP servers would be fine. We had this in MW4 and it worked well. The hard-core crowd will play FFP and casual gamers who just want fun can play 3PP. More players means more development funds so we all win. Simples.
