Yes, that's exactly what we need and what should take all resources of the development team. Well, not all of them - they should devote some to autoaim, cover system and Lava Gun. And rename to MechAssault Online.

Seriously, it's more or less clear that this game is a failure, so let's finish this driveout.

First person to play ingame, but 3rd person for screenshots would be great. At the moment we have these beautiful 3D mech models and we don't get to see them. Having 3PP and FFP servers would be fine. We had this in MW4 and it worked well. The hard-core crowd will play FFP and casual gamers who just want fun can play 3PP. More players means more development funds so we all win. Simples.

That is just what was announced in the DnB podcast.

i dont know what can be so hard to determine where your legs are going and your torso is pointing to, 1st person is the one thing that makes MW what it is ...well MW ....

If they really add 3rd camera then might as well add right click autolock .... sigh

And this is the one MW that has isn't shy to tell you where all your limbs are pointing.

3rd person view offers an advantage over first person view. That makes it practically mandatory to use, if it is available.

Why waste all the resources in designing Cockpits and Bobbleheads, if neither will be used, because of 3rd person cam?.

There is no need for it. New players need a tutorial to get introduced then told to get on the Teamspeak servers. Adding 3rd person will turn this into a campfest. There is nothing like sneaking up on a person in an Altus and Alpha Striking his back, I wont be able to do that if they add 3rd person view.

What about killing spree rewards?

Like, if you kill three mechs you get "Aerospace fighter strike" or "Artillery barrage". That sounds even cooler than 3rd person!

The Space Pope and the Space Vatican are strongly against the implementation of third person views.

I think it's a terrible idea. It could work in spectator mode, and only in there.
The only reason given for 3rd person was because some new players couldn't understand the torso twisting. That can very easily be remedied with a proper training mission.

Please devs. Please. I don't want to be forced out of my cockpit to stay competitive, and neither do I want to have our already relatively small player base divided.

Edit: All of the people in this thread who are for 3rd person don't want it because they don't understand how torso twisting works. So therefore stupid way to fix that problem, PGI. PLEASE don't do this!

Every MW game has had terrible multiplayer that comes down to looking around hills, and jumpsniping with your phantom mech senses.

Every.
Single.
One.

And as I suggested, easily remedied by implementing a Line of Sight system for 3rd person. If there was no advantage to spot enemies over obstacles, then 3rd person will be a non-issue.

Addressing the general tone of posts that I see on these boards, I wish this forum had less doom and gloom, really guys, if you're a MW veteran you're probably in your mid-20s or 30s or even older by now, making dramatic statements and jumping to conclusions isn't something we should be doing.

If the devs want to implement a feature, think constructively about how the potential balance issues can be solved, not start raging and being melodramatic. The whole point of a beta is to address issues that still reside in the game.

if they can somehow make mechs invisible that are outside your cockpits line of sight then sure, go for it.

The main problem with 3rd person is that it lets you look over obstacles taller than you, around corners without your mech poking out and behind you without turning around. This is a MASSIVE problem for MWO, given how effective cover is and how defensively "dug in" teams can get currently without that added visibility range.

It also lets you see what weapon is causing that blinking red thing on your screen which you really have no business knowing without spinning around.

Currently you dont know if its a cicada spraying you with 4 rubber pellet launchers or a Jenner melting a hole in your rear torso like a kid with a magnifiying glass and plastic soldiers on a hot summers day

It'll be a very elaborate system based around massive, loud rewards for the most trivial of things, like shooting trees, or scoring multiple hits with your lasers.

3rd person can't be balance if it's in game you have to use it to be competitive what is that you don't understand. Stop brown nosing

I think we should have both modes.

1st person would be the main mode (cause lot of reasons : immersion, non LOS behind you, etc...).

But you should have the possibility to switch in 3rd person in two cases (in my point of view):

- only few seconds, by holding a set of caps, just to "see how awesome you are in your new skin or running across the snow", or to take some screenshots of yourself. Could even be available only if no enemy is within 1'000m for example, or with a penalty of 10 seconds shut down after the 3rd person view, or..., or...

- permanently, but only for trials mechs, to help new players to control their machine.

That's assuming that this will be easy to achieve, and not buggy. There will invariably come a time when a mech is somehow deemed "invisible" by this LoS system, and will not be displayed when he should clearly be visible. Play a bit of XCom: Enemy Unknown and see how a system like this works. I love XCom more than any other game released in the past 5 years, and it's singleplayer so I don't mind, but sometimes the system can only make a best guess, and oftentimes it isn't good enough.

Please devs, don't do this to us.

We could replace XP with prestige levels too.

I don't know the various military ranks for mech commanders, will we have enough for a full 50 levels?

I think 3rd person will be fine as long as the view is fairly confined to viewing your mech, no target recticle or Hud overlay etc... no information at all.

It should be implemented so using the view to actually fight from is not advantageous, perhaps a triger lockout while in 3rd person. I do love the idea of being able to 3d view my Mech in the gameworld maps. Also they should prevent as much as possible from using it to spy around corners, buildings, terrain.

Is this for real?

If people are so confused by the torso twist, why not add a better tutorial to explain how it works? I'm sure they'll acclimate quickly to how things work. It's not in the least bit complex. I honestly cannot understand how someone wouldn't be able to figure out how the movement works after a few games.

I can certainly see someone jumping into a game and being confused their very first game. But if they're going to quit and immediately uninstall it after one attempt, well.. I think then there are probably plenty of other things in the game that would equally confuse them, likely more so than torso twisting.

This just doesn't seem necessary.

I've been playing months and I can recall maybe a couple of times when spectating someone that they weren't using torso twist or seemed legitimately confused. Everyone I've observed playing seems to grasp how the system works. Maybe some struggle with it, but they all seem to know what is going on, and I expect like anything they would improve the more they play.

Now I is confused.

Personally, as long as I never have to play in a match with someone else using 3rd person, I will continue playing. But a change like this will likely split the community to some extent, which is worrisome. And I hope this doesn't mean less attention to detail on the workings of the cockpit.

If a change like this somehow brings more money in and keeps the game going longer and increases the potential for more BattleTech games, then.. I guess I'm not going to complain. But will it?

So let me get this straight.

They are going to implement the same feature that killed multiplayer in all other MW titles, in a multiplayer only game?

Are you serious?

At least the other games had single player campaigns.

PGI has been making some really bad decisions lately

We can only assume PGI has some sort of sponsorship with Doritos and Mtn Dew.
