Yea, they did to start, then a few months ago they said that the office was pretty evenly divided and they had significant debates about it.

This is the first time that I have heard something definite about it.

Can someone throw a link to the devs post.

FFS....

They also said there would never be items you could only buy with real money, too.

They also said they would never sell unique mech variants for cash only. PGI's credibility when it comes to their promises, at least for me, went out the window when the YLW was introduced even if it is a mediocre mech at best.

I don't care...when new player need it. They should have it. If there is a advantage...well they are new players...
When experienced player use it and call there self proo ... well should they...as said it simple doesn't matter.

Me for my part i had always more problems with 3rd Person. Don't make noise for something that isn't worth to discuss about

Well if the germans don't like it that settles it.

If they go that route, assuming it's possible in this engine, then you wind up with mechs fading in out of thin air. Then you still need to explain to new players why they have a mech "pop in" if it's in one spot, but "pop out" if it's a meter to the right or left. PGI is still struggling to explain min/max ranges to people, now they need to explain why mechs suddenly go invisible?

They pick up on it in World of Tanks, eventually. And apparently there are A LOT of them that did. So we can have a little faith in our newbies that they'd be able to make the same determination in MWO. If not, well, those are probably the sort of players we don't want in the game anyway.

That's not to say I don't think it's not possible to implement a 3rd person view in such a way that it works and doesn't offer unfair advantages. I just don't think, at this point, PGI has the will to do it in any other way except the way we all know it's probably going to be.

Well said. Sadly.

The OP in that thread is in support of it.

I don't doubt that newbies can learn it, I'm pointing out that any effort they expend explaining this new system to new players could also have been spent simply having new players learn the current system or improving it with tweaks to the map and directional indicator. There's no need to shoe-horn in an entirely different PoV when all that is needed is a training area and basic interactive tutorial.

I am going to hold off spending any more money on this game. All they have to do is look at the previous poll on this topic.

The only 3rd person view we should have is a slow turning, noon to 3/9 o clock downward spiral at the very begining of the match, during the countdown, so those that want can see their mechs.

Having heard the podcast, they don't care if all of the hard core players quit, they are thinking about a much larger playerbase.

They will bring in 3rd person, like it or not. Maybe they will be seperate at first but eventually all splits merge...

THis is what they should do; make an xbox/playstation seperate version with 3rd person. The pc version, focus on the purpose of it all; planetary capture with an interactive map, drop rooms, a much better chat/lobby system. :)

Considering how much content we don't currently have, I'm curious as to how 3rd will help this game do any better.

No.

Only compromise I would make is 3rd person view only allowed after powering down your mech. Let you get out and strech your legs.

In NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast "Mechs, Devs, & Beer #2: Russ Bullock" it was announced.

3rd Person view is coming.

Why and How?
It seems new players have problem with torso twist, legs and movement and the coordination required to pilot the mech, according to Russ.
So they want to help, by showing via the 3rd person view.

WTF?
I'll admit it takes a bit longer to get accustomed to the way MWO plays compared to, let's say, WoW.

BUT imho the right way to fix it is to implement a proper tutorial and some training ground map, instead of simply putting in a 'WoW' mode.
The reasons new players are turned off is not necessarily the controls. It is weak and overly hot trial mechs, bad matchmaking and lots of fast mechs circling them, LRMs killing them or double gauss'es sniping them before they even get a hang of it.

That's how you do successful business. A fast moving 'let's check out this new game' crowd is much more desirable than a solid fanbase. Oh wait..

i am ok with 3rd person if its a module and it launches a drone that you can see and shoot down, otherwise, i am so very against it.

Third person will inherently imbalance the game by allowing people to peek corners and hills without exposing themselves to counter fire. If 3rd person is allowed I want my 60 dollars back because Mechwarrior as a Sim dies with it.
