I'm not sure I understand the dev logic here, clearly I think the dev's need to make their case in more detail than the podcast here has done. Would be most interested to see what more they'd have to say on it.

I don't understand it either. They should be focused of fixing the existing issues rather than adding controversial features that are going to inflame the playerbase. I'm starting to wonder if they are getting ahead of themselves with regard to perceived success. The basic game is fun when it's not crashing, but there are a slew of show-stoppers they need to address before working on adding new and unwanted features.

Their actually talking about full launch with limited maps, broken netcode and one game mode.

I'm not a buisness major, but this just seems borderline full ******. I really hope they're holding something back.

They probably are having financial problems and/or pressure from the publisher to get it out to make money. Honestly, the more I look at this whole thing the more I wonder if it's just going to be sent out to die. The only saving grace it has at the moment is that Quarter 1 is generally a dry time for gaming with few big titles coming out.

About three months ago I suggested that a player has to see his/her mech on the battlefield to increase immersion and to form a connection with the mech. So kudos for changing your position PGI. After the netcode, a usable (=non-rotating) minimap and 1-2 other things, this should be a high priority.

Of course you still have to implement it just right, something you let's say haven't built a solid reputation for.

I haven't looked at the game or the forums for two months. Back then I think we had most people arguing that a mech is supposed to have 360-degree vision. It seems those people have left. What still remains is far too many people imagining the worst possible implementation of a feature to use that for arguing against it.

This can be done right, the only question is if PGI can do it.

Its nice and all they they'd split the games so that you either play first person only, third person only, or either, but the issue is that this splits the fan base.

What happens when community warfare (If, I should say) comes along? Do we have 3 different galaxy maps so that third person players won't interfere with first person players?

The system is just unworkable. You can not introduce third person into the game and not change EVERYTHING.

The easiest way that I see it would be certain locations can be tagged as 1st person only battles, 3rd person only, and mix and people just go fight wherever they feel comfortable with.

Problem is you need a large number of people to do that. If it's much easier and more comfortable for most new players to go third person, they will be very unlikely to ever go first person. You'll wind up with first person battles being underpopulated and those players essentially forced into third person battles to find matches.

Yeah but the were bragging about the money they brought in not that long ago. And the lack of....game, can be justified by being in a beta status.

Go full launch with what we currently have people will just laugh at it and uninstall.

Please do not do this.

If you allow this in community wars then every single person wanting to play in first person will be at a massive disadvantage.

Please do not do this at all outside of a tutorial map.

Honestly....please do not. :(

Honestly this game is not ready to go live.

We don't even have the details for community warfare yet.

(Which is the biggest attraction of the game for me)

If we vastly get outnumbered by new players (which is kinda a good thing) then yes, that's the way I see things going.

If they are going for casuals who just want random matches then it might be okay if they keep community warfare to first person, but that might mean we have to farm our c-bills in third person due to lack of players who play in first person.

If ever they go through with it, let's at least hope that it opens the floodgates and makes the game more successful. At least something good would have come out of it. Then we can all hang out in the off-topic forums and talk about the old days. :(

Where the hell did that $5 million in founders' packages go? They got funding from somebody to start this project, right? So the $5 million should have been on top of the check they were already cut. And they can't have projected a profit until after the game's release, so there shouldn't be any pressure right now beyond fixing all the issues that are going to turn players away. What am I missing here?

You know, I'm split on the 'going live' thing.

The MW fan side of me REALLY wants this game to succeed and I'm concerned that it is on the fast track to failure.

The sinister side of me REALLY wants this game to go live and fail. That way when I continue with my own mechwarrior system in SL, I won't hindered at all by an existing game.

No. The most I would accept is maybe mounted camera views like shoulder or rear.

What would help new players even more than some 3rd view

* In game chat rooms
* TOOLTIPS
* Actual tutorial
* Stable game client
* Proper matchmaking
* Actually revarding tutorial mech function
* Rewards for good performance and not just winning

I could continue here for eternity but the 3rd view would be the last thing I would need to mention here. Stop accusing new players from leaving the game when actually there is 100x other things that drives them off even more.

How about the developers build some content instead? Every single reviewer, critic, community member, and game blogger, on the internet and beyond always prefaces discussions about Mechwarrior with two statements: The game is lacking in content and the Mechlab is the most unintuitive interface ever developed in a game.

I tried to stay positive after they broke their word on not introducing MC-only variants with the Wang, but weren't they absolutely adamant on keeping the game first person only? I like the first person view but if they put in third person I'll be forced to use it. Yeah I know I don't have to, but I don't have to use a mouse either, it just happens that joysticks are worthless in comparison. I like winning.

I completely support a third person cam for spectating. Maybe free look and preset camera angle specatating as well, I've seen that done well in other games...I think it was Gears of War?

At any rate if they want to screw up this game's sim nature to appeal to some nonexistent larger audience it won't end well. Microsoft would've made Mechassault 3 by now if it was a good idea.
