It was far too often we saw the core group of hardcore fans here whine and moan about any mention of 3rd person cameras and unfair this, unfair that. If done correctly, a 3rd person view can be a worthwhile addition that doesn't have to sacrifice game balance.

What if we compromised? Seriously what if we compromised on this issue? Hard Core gamers (myself included) you want no third person period due to the amount of cheating that would arise due to the fact that people would then be able to see around corners. Okay, I can see the merit in that argument, but what about matches that have no bearing what so ever? Like a training ground, where pilots get familiar with their machines or game mechanics. An argument that I see recurring among the pro third person party is that 1. it would allow for a shorter learning curve, 2. they want to see their machines in action, 3. its easier to pilot in the 3rd person. So we fix the first and third problems by having a training ground, where players can practice their skills and other such things. They could even get together and have a fun game of gooning each other while in 3rd person, and hey, it would be alright. So to keep things fair in the other battles, you stay first person, but have a separate thing in place where people can use 3rd person if they want to. Would this be an acceptable compromise?

Dont spoil it with this ****** third person rubbish, apart from possibly spectator mode.

Oh but they can see it, in the mechbay. An after match replay with free cam would be great. But no 3rd person during the match please.

Move on.
Ah, the irony... and it only took two words.
To answer the question though.... Because PGI has yet to either 1. Put a stake through its heart, OR 2. Lay out something more concrete on what they are planning to try/do and how it would work.
Some folks see this as important, and a potential game breaker/maker depending upon how/if it gets implemented. Speaking for myself, I have been reluctant to spend the remainder of my MC, as I'm not sure I'm willing to buy more until PGI clears this up one way or another. The matter gets clouded up even more now that I find most of my online gaming buddies are now budgeting much of the time per week they previously spent on MWO, on a shiny new Free To Play competitor. They still pop in on MWO, mostly right after a patch is issued... but the shine is wearing off. Most of these guys are fellow Founders, BTW.

The "first official gameplay video" as you call it was from another game entirely.
Allow me to repeat for those who are hard of hearing and/or have vision problems...
THAT WAS A DIFFERENT GAME!!
The game in the video was MechWarrior Reboot, another game in the MechWarrior franchise which would have been primarily a single-player game with multi-player tacked on. No publishers were interested, so it was SCRAPPED COMPLETELY.
MW:O is a completely different game
I also will vote NO THIRD PERSON VIEW!
Oh and CyB ... expect that to change once Community Warfare and/or the Clans are implemented. Burnout is expected, and even encouraged at this point. When they come back, they will see how nice and shiny it has become and they will play with renewed vigor. It's a great game, and they know it ... which is why they keep coming back. But without some incentive for playing (like conquering worlds and such), some people need to go somewhere else for their gaming.

Ayup... and it was built on a different game engine.

Oh, I know their interest will be renewed (assuming the game doesn't get trashed some other way... say putting 3PV into 1PV matches) once Community Warfare comes along. But in the meantime, I'm seeing their optimism about the game's future fade, with an accompanying decrease in the probability of them spending any $$ on it in the interim. [ That point right there is potentially important to PGI's well-being, depending on how may other people choose to take a similar approach. Less certainty encourages more people to lean in that direction. ] I can think of at least one who, in spite of *really* liking MW*.*, has no intention of even activating his premium time until Community Warfare starts. I can't say that 3PV coming in would turn him off completely, but I'm pretty confident that if it negatively impacted the game, he would be just that much more likely to continue putting more of his time into that other game.
These guys aren't really 'burned out' per se, so much as just waiting for the good stuff to arrive, and having more fun elsewhere to boot. They aren't aren't going to be gone completely, and then come back later to see massive changes. They are checking in, patching up, checking out the new changes for a session or three... and then heading back off to greener pastures.

It requires implementing a new keyboard command, like "0" for "0pen Hatch" and takes 5 seconds. Then, your flight-suited protoplasmic blob of a pilot climbs out and on top of your mech. You can hop up and down and see things from a "different angle" all you like-- til one machinegun round ends your sorry little exercise.
Seriously, no interest in a 3rd person view.

Your are right it would be useful. Useful for looking over hills, around corners, and seeing the battlefield in a way that wouldn't be physicaly possiable if "YOU" were in a mech. This game is a simulator with FPS elements not a frist person shooter with simulator elements.
