If he mentioned he's in the beta, there are one of two potential answers:
1) He doesn't give a flying fart about the NDA and the Piranha are letting it slide because hey - free positive publicity

2) Piranha specifically let him break it for promotional purposes.
Either way means a potential influx of players, which means MWO will in the end have a stronger start and, hopefully, sustained player base. Good enough.
There is also 3) which is He ignored the NDA and Piranha are doing something about that, but I judge it unlikely.
As for the criteria for beta testing - let Piranha decide that for themselves. Knowledge level and skill are irrelevant due to reasons mentioned above, but i'm pretty sure a consistently positive and comprehensible communication style is essential.

You just can't talk about WHAT the balance, the specific mechs, physics and mechanics, and etc in the Beta are.
Also, ANYTHING posted by a dev to these forums is Public Domain (especially since you do NOT have to be registered to view this forum). So, stating that MW:O is handing out Beta Keys is NOT a breach of the NDA since it is posted in a public access area.
TL:DR - You can say you are in Beta, just can't talk about Beta.

As for the goons, MWO is not really a game thats conducive for them. They're power comes from their ability to zerg/blob. Matches will always be 12v12. Sure they can all join a single faction, but they still got to win those 12v12 matches to matter. The average goon player is definitely not known for being more skilled than the average player.
Also this is mostly true we have slight above average player base but if WOT is anything to go by goons will still be a might force of pain and suffering. Also NDP has the longest held land of any clan on any server group.

This is actually extremely false. 5 years ago in EVE, this was true. However, that was 5 years ago. Goonswarm has one of the largest and most deep skill pools in the whole game.
This is also true for World of Tanks. The majority of my A-team have been playing together since Beta, and we all are in the top 3% of players, with 5-6 that are in the top 0.5%. Also, Tanks clans top at 100 people. High skill in low numbers is what we are perfectly suited for.
With a 9000 player pool in eve, they should manage to find skilled players. 5 years ago most goon players just started playing eve. Now, its 9000 average players all working together (more or less). Skill demographics resembles general population, but with a particular sense of humor. Your "A-team" is not the average goon player.

Can't wait for a proper round of "hang bags at dawn" once the game starts.
Should be a hoot.
