Nope, they've said it's only going to work for the first 8 Chassis that were available.

still looks like there will be much better looks and skins than the founder ones which technically are the most expensive skins in the game considering "unique skins" was a selling point for the founders, now they're just gonna be the oldest most outta date skins back from open beta. hopefully they can get a facelift buffing or we can modify the founders camo, or even a few different special edition founders only skins to choose from.

I read a dev saying once that the yellow stripes on the founder skins can have their color changed, so there will be limited customization of them.

With the way that skins are being applied separately to individual 'mech chassis, it makes it seem like these paintjob styles have to be made specifically for each model instead of just being a texture map overlay that gets wrapped around the geometry. Like the texture maps don't have some sort of alpha channel that can get swapped out, they have to remake the entire skin.

While you're all having fun with the mix-and-match skin editor, you should have a look at what CoV did with theirs. Basic shapes and textures and almost infinite variety. The same principle could be used to make mix-and-match character portraits and unit insignia.
You could make anything in that game, from cyber gladiators and evil clowns to pizza boys followed by ninjas, and anything in between. Two prosthetic legs? Controlled by gene-modified shoulder rodent? Pumpkin for a head? Victorian fashiom victim? Chicken legs? Everything at once?

Look at All point bulletin paint job editor for their cars/characters;

I used to like the beater look for my cars;

I have an objects.pak from one of the eariest closed betas sitting around, and some of the skins listed in the OP have been in the game files since as far back as 26th April.

Way back from probably when their shader wasn't even worked out properly and they were still messing with a stock CE3 blend shader.

Does anyone remember Need for Speed: Underground? Maybe some of the other NFS games?

Those had a "painting" system I really quite liked.

about 2:40 onwards

Basically you get a base coat/layer, then you can add various stickers (decals, vinyls) labels, patterns etc. on top and change individual tones/colours of those decals building it all up in layers. You could also colour individual components differently. The end result was ability to end up with somewhat unique designs based off of building block decals.

Something like that would be nice to have in MWO, basically you unlock/pay to unlock the decals, stickers, labels etc. and just stick them on and move them around how you like. It would be nice if you basically unlock/buy those building blocks and can use them across any mechs you own (not on a "per mech" basis)

They were both my custom painted cars from APB (from the strips to the paint chips)

Did you ever wonder if the guys that diddle around with the game files are the same guys that cry about the game being broken and unplayable?

Just an early morning coffee thought. :wub:

You don't realize they have to redo every single mech many times, each time with a new camo to get it to look right in the game - DO YOU!!!

Can we apply skins to our Founders Mechs?

It's reasonable that they need to be able specify the actual patterns fo each chassis. But the colors should be customizable. I'm cool with having standard pallets to choose from, but we should be able to select custom colors if we choose to. Virtually every "skinner" I've seen has this feature. Hopefully MWO does too.o

Only colors I need are some sort of bright orange and a very dark gray.

Make it so!

So the truth comes out, that i was not at all ''incorrect'' after all. The skins currently in the game ARE IN FACT all there is for the mechs i mentioned. However, the difference being - those are just only those that are finished.

I'm just slightly disappointed about the fact that I can't collect paint jobs.

Yes, i see that as well. Im not overly bothered by it myself, but it would have been good to have a collection goal for paint jobs. Something like that makes grinding more bearable, if there is a real nice goal at the end. Even if only an aesthetic one.

The problem i personally see is that Camo changes erase stuff bought with MC (if i understood the Command Chair stuff). I currently got 14 Mechs (Founders included) i really like to switch out stuff and try out different Camo/Patterns but i'll really be put off purchasing MC stuff if it can vanish if i just want to use a basic skin once.

I wouldn't mind spending some MC on each on my current Mechs to get different looks, i did virtually the same with Killing Floor (Link: http://www.killingfloorthegame.com/) it's a game you buy once, but now and then new Maps/Weapons get released for free only new Models/Skin can be bought. This is how they gain money. But to compare it to the camo system it would mean switching to another model would remove already bought models.

If i misunderstood the Command Chair thread it's okay, but loosing Camo Patterns and having to rebuy them is kinda off putting for me. And i'm a lot less likely to go hog wild on the Camo system.
