This might have been stated earlier, but I'd just like to point out to those who are brandishing "Rediscovered by the IS [year]" that the automobile was invented in 1769 (a steam driven one was made), with the combustion engine automobile being put into production in the late 19th century.

It wasn't until much later that the "car" was something "everyone" had.

And do also keep in mind that armies used single-shot rifles long after repeaters were commonly available, and that muskets were used for years after rifles became available in good numbers.

Sure, we might have double heat sinks, MASC and CASE, but the military has to consider funds. "Rediscovered" is not the same as "commonly available." Or indeed, even "available outside of units designated for field testing."

I'm happy rolling with 3025 tech. In fact, after upgrades are introduced I really hope that they allow us to set up battles that limit tech so we can still fight using only the 3025 technology.

So you're against options that can be used to tailor a match to your liking?

That's odd. If it's only because you don't want to hear people complain I'm sure you'll have the ability to shut off voice comms.

Not sure of his motivation, but the usual reason against this is it fragments the population and you wind up with LOTS of people sitting around waiting for a game. Plenty of people online, but since you have matches set for Any, 3025 only, 3025-3049 only, 3049+ No Clan, Clan only, etc etc. Not to mention if you are going to toss canon out the window, then 3025 Only W/Clans etc etc options open up.

No, not just because I don't want to hear people complain. I don't want grognards (who will probably be the ones with disposable income to maintain servers) to rule what sort of MWO experience I can have by forbidding the use of tech they don't like.

I've had enough of that crap playing other games.

That too. Cutting people out just because they want to use a gauss rifle or double heat sinks is utter BS.

I am actually looking forward to there being a range of cheap tech mechs working along side maxed out custom mechs. In most of the books you find second line mechs pressed into service when times are tough etc etc. As long as the game mechanics are similar to the old board game stuff and the sides are comparativly equal I'm down with running my bucket of bolts centurion with whatever tech I can scrounge up.

I don't know what a "grognard" is, but I'm guessing that if there's a system set up to allow people to create their own matches using their own preferences that you'll have more than enough other options that you can simply avoid them.

Nobody would be forbidding anything. You don't have to join that match.

Yeah, and the inverse of this is that you're cutting out the people who aren't interested in using the more advanced tech and want a fair match. If this is like any other online game where matches can be set up I'm sure you'll be able to see what the parameters for the match are up front.

It would be hilarious though if game creation had full of check boxes.
No PPC.
No gauss rifle.
No LRM
No AC
No large lasers.

etc

SRM + med / small laser + flamer and MG fights.
Grinders ahoy.

This isn't going to be Mechwarrior 4.

These "matches" are probably going to have effects on the inner sphere map and affect our various incomes and rewards.

If Internet robot games aren't serious business then it isn't Internet robot games.

I think Kanatta Jing, we can all lovingly agree this isnt that lauded garbage MW4, BUT, whos to say what kind of matchmaking there will be or how it will all work? Not me, not you, only the devs. We can guess and speculate until then XD

I think the devs have given us some brief explanations on how the universe driven portion of the game is going to work. Meaning that they're the ones who are going to set the parameters for each match on each planet. Still, it would be nice to have the ability to set up your own matches for whatever reason. Consider a clan/merc organization that wants to practice; without the ability to set up their own matches the only training they're going to get is on the battlefield.

About that timberwolf ****, the only mech you'll ever get to drive that looks like it is going to be the Rakshasa so give it up.

Also salavaging clan mechs, means you cant repair it, at all. IS does not have that capability... so seriously... should shove that timberwolf up his *** and self destruct it. Because that's as close will ever get to a functional one lol.

IceTitan, I shall never give up my TimberWolf. Why? The clans are coming. They field them. At SOME point, I can salvage and field OR play as clan wolf and field that way. Otherwise I DEMAND proof that I will not EVER get my beloved mech.
