I think that one of the things that the people who say that other Crytek Engine games run fine on their computers forget is that this game has a LOT more going on under the hood than your typical shooter.

Uhh no it doesn't. That would be the case only if Crytek hadn't used their engine to its fullest extent in crysis 2 or if MWO's DX9 engine wasn't the same, which I'm pretty much sure they did and it is. It's simple, you can't use variables, features that aren't there. I'd agree with you on the stuff they added later like dx11, but it hasn't even been added here yet and it's as bad as it is already. And even when it finally is added its just a matter of people with older systems sticking to dx9 mode.

I also see no mention in this thread about how the GPU is being under-utilized. Does anyone know if this is true? I heard (rumor) that the game hardly uses the GPU at all and that they haven't finished the DX10 and 11 optimizations yet. It seems that once some of the heavy lifting can be better handled by the GPUs, we will all have a pretty smooth and sweet game.

I can confirm it. But apparently the gpu is only underused on pcs with weaker cpus, especially dual cores (my case). Its the definition of a bottleneck, the cpu doesn't push out enough data to keep the gfx at full load. As for better handling the heavy lifting, well that's why DX11 isn't implemented yet. Which in a way is a shame. You see it's like I've said before, what this last patch really did was put out in plain sight the performance optimization problems that plague this game. Before only older/weaker pcs had problems so nobody cared. With this patch "bigger fish" were poked, so forum rage ensued. DX11 would only aggravate that so maybe then them ignorants that keep pulling the "get a better pc" card, would realize we shouldn't be fighting eachother.

Also, afaik Nvidias involvement isnt with PGI directly, it was with crytek building cryengine 3. And the "choking" problem isnt nvidia specific so..just wait it out.

well maybe this will sound an bit mean...but why ur dont buy just an better computer?...well how old is ur sys..5 years or even more?..and now expect do play an modern 2012 game whitout any problems?..and imagine that even those modern computers got some problems whit this game..because...well yes its beta u know

so better think about that before complaining here

becuse this game is not worth 1500 bucks.

I'm still running a Dual-Core 2.6, 8 megs RAM, and INTEL 2000 integrated graphics...

I've seen STEADY performance increases since CLOSED BETA began...

The only problem I run into is on the Caustic Map, in heavy fighting (Then I drop like a rock).

Because mwo is the only game you plan to play in the next 4 years?

Never, I hope. Welcome to 2012 gaming. Now go take your circa 2006 hardware and go play some 2006 games for which it was made and leave us non-poors to our better games

I've got a QX9650 OCed to just under 4 Ghz, 8GB RAM, and an ATI 6950 w/2GB. It's no super computer, but it's no slouch either. I play the game okay, but it's nowhere near a smooth experience. I drop down to ~20 FPS regularly during fighting, and I have specs set at Medium, with some of the settings set to Low.

CryEngine3 isn't designed for performance. A lot of the game logic is written in stupid scripts instead of nice optimized C++. In some regards PGI are actually reaching the limits of what they can do with the engine.

We will not see proper support for C2D machines. I'm telling you right now it's not possible with how the game is designed.

Never

Stop being so entitled, what makes you think you have a right to a game that performs well freeplaying scum? Devs need to eat too give them 120 dollars and maybe they'll eventually deign to fix it after they take several vacations in Hawaii.

Really? You mean to tell me that the other Crytek engine games have armored hitboxes, critical hits, internal structure, multiple offensive and defensive systems, and large numbers of differently performing weapons that vary greatly depending on range, to name just a few. And the heat system? This is not just a pretty shooter, and Crytek is not really a sim engine.
Name one other Crytek game that has to keep track of so many different things going on at the same time with such detail and complexity.

Wait.

Are you referring to the old 775 series Core Two Duos?

Really?

This is a game built on an engine meant to played on current machines. 775 is on its death bed. Put it to rest already.

You and me both.
I'm a flight *****. Really I am. I grew up on Ace Combat games, Rogue Squadron, and various WW2 fliers. The thought of zipping around in a starfighter, makes me giggly.

I also hear we are going to get quantum computers, but until they hit the streets, they aren't even remotely relevant here.

I hear you though....Star Citizen sounds so sweet.

http://en.wikipedia....ars_(video_game) Well there's also this game apparently using Cry Engine 2.
One that's not a typical shooter down the line
http://en.wikipedia....cay_(video_game)

Also keep in mind Crysis is in of itself not just a pretty typical shooter as there are ALOT of things going on there as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crysis  It's not like it's just COD or something lame like that. I think that was part of the reason PGI picked the Cry engine, due to the suits capabilities in crysis, along with it's rock solid physics engine. (which PGI has yet to utilize even remotely properly)

You have to admit though, it's pretty lame that the FPS in this game is so horrendous at times that it'll bring computers that are comfortably above Recommended Specs running on medium and high mix settings down to anything under 50 fps. Let alone continually exist and run at 25 to 30. Especially with as ''far'' along in development we are.

It's not like the Cry Engine 3 is a new fangled engine, it's had time to be proven in development cycles. I'm going to try a little experiment either tonight, or maybe next weekend, where I get crysis 2 on steam. And see how what my frame count is in it. I'm going to take a cautiously optimistic guess and say my FPS there on near identical settings here is around 50 based on that games recommended spec list and my rig comfortably spanking them.

The problem is this game isn't using our graphics cards, not in any capacity worth mentioning anyway. And it has frequent memory leaks.

So we already have a small target playerbase....I know, let's make sure only people who have a computer less than 1 year old can play the game too!!!!!

Brilliant.
