you may not want it planed out..trust me, i dont either but its also no fun if 90% of the gaming population is against you.

I don't see it so much as planned out as covering for a 'handicap'. It's all dependent on the player base. We could end up with a million chinese players all picking House Liao, then all the sudden the FedSuns are outnumbered and will need the mercs ^_^

It's not planned so much as fluid and adjustible.

Personally, I'm intending to stick to my house only in the beginning while I build up my playing ability. Get used to the controls on the basics (I'm just assuming there will be some missions for solo players against NPCs or something). Then once I become more capable I'm probably going to break away and become a merc, taking on more challenging things. This is of course just how it'd play out in my mind and not based on anything other than that it's been a long time since I've played a Mechwarrior game and think I'll need practice, and that I get more enjoyment out of having more responsibilities in my profits and expenditures.

I would imagine it's all handled in-game. However, I think you are asking, what if I become an Ace pilot with a halo of dread eminating from my handle. Probably someone might be able to add a few C-Bills. However, I think you are going to want to actually join a quality Merc unit to maximize your chances of winning frequently. Lone Merc sounds like the slow path to me and as you know, MMO's are many long grinds for small gains.

Personally I would prefer to be in a Merc corp. If my clan mates from other games, who incidentally led me to this game, all join up and we get to create our own Merc corp... BEWARE THE CHICKENS! Not originally from MW but hey... a small Merc Corp could have been overlooked in the books...

Here's an idea. If someone wants to make a group, they need to get cleared from "Outreach", and file paperwork making them into a mech unit, and if the person splits from said unit, there will be penalities.
I forsee a dark future otherwise....

Day 20
Me and my best friends formed a merc unit and we are crushing the competition. It's a bit annoying since Sinkiller keeps sniping the mechs and stealing my kills, but as long as we survive to the end, whatever. I'll talk with him later so I can get some kills as well.

Day 25
Sinkiller is still up to his old tricks with snatching the kill from me two seconds before I was going to destroy it. Well, I don't care, I'm only 240 points away from a Heavy module that will get me to increase my autocannon damage.

Day 26
What the heck! I'm done with these guys. Sinkiller keeps stealing my kills and he just got a module that allows him to increase the accuracy of his large lasers, I've discussed it with the commander, but he's so satisfied with getting wins, he doesn't care. I think he and Sinkiller are best friends in real life, Screw this. I'm joining a different group.

I forsee this becoming common. Thus, if you join, you must stay for a certain length of time, but if you quit, there needs to be a length of time to quit from that unit, otherwise, it's going to be convoluted since people are going to belong to 3 merc units at a time.

Unless the Dev restrict the amount of "persona's" any one account can have, that is going to be the norm anyways. Why run only 1 persona when you can run 2-3. A Merc, a Lone Wolf and a House persona.

That way I can pick, whom with and when I fight, while never getting stuck with the possibility that not enough of my Corps/House guys showed up, such that I can't actually fight on any given sitting.

How many "persona's" should be allowed is the real question. Especially if they do MM and use stats as a Matching item. Smurfs suck blue balls...
