I am having sound glitches, popping, scratching, and drops...especially when lasers are used...since Betty was intro'd

Frequency of messages:

Base Capture - once is more than enough to get my attention. I can then pay attention to the big red flashing signal on my hud.

Incoming missiles - once is enough to get my attention. I can see the big red flashing message. until it goes dead for a certain amount of time (say 10 seconds), i dont need her to announce it again

Switching targets - everytime I move to a different target, I do not need her to tell me...Im the one who switched targets to begin with. What i would prefer is having her tell me when a new target has been spotted, up to the maximum of 8. that way, if i happen to be pointing in the wrong direction, i can turn to see what it is, or choose to ignore it.

like having her back though. :angry:

first of all: please dear PGI, tell Carole it´s nice to have her back :D

i spare you the details about some sound issues coming up with the implementation, i guess you already are aware of it...

just for info, i tuned down effects volume to 50% and "Betty" up to 100%^^ i am happy having her telling me that my ammo is going to kill my engine ;)

agree: frequently repeated messages (base/ missle) could be "less frequent"

and: not every target switch is being commented^^ i can live with it though

First of all - it is AWESOME that you guys got the old voice actress back - it makes an old fan of the franchise very happy :D

What i'd change - increase the default volume - it gets lost in other sounds too easily, also she sounds a tad too relaxed and speaks slightly too slow to my taste. I'd also prefere a bit more metallic, "robot" sounding voice - but that's just an old MW2 fan talking ;)

One more thing about the message system:
I was in my hunch 4SP, standard 4 lasers + 2 SRM6 - got one of my torsos blown off with the arm still attached.
Betty listed parts that got destroyed, but for weapons she mentioned 1 SRM (correct) and ONE medium laser. Either she should list all weapons getting destroyed, or just talk about parts.

Difficult to evaluate until the sound is fixed, but it's very uneven in terms of feel/mix.

But the actual feedback is very nostalgic. Some work needs to be done on the weighting of the feedback notifications, amongst other things.

For a first effort it's very promising.

I love having Carrol's voice back, am looking foreward to hearing the old startup sequence again, but a checklist would be fantastic. My only issue is the constant clipping and stuttering.

I love having the voice back, but I wish I could still hear my jump jets firing when she talks. Several times I've thought they cut out for some reason...

My only two gripes are that she gets cut off by other sounds, and that she often picks the least urgent thing to tell me. For instance my arm has just been blown off, but she's telling me about my Jump Jet fuel.

All in all, she's growing on me.

Comments after 1 day of betty:

1. Set a priori for betty announcements. ie. Switching targets then being 'cored' will leave betty starting her .midi for switching, then overlap it with her 'critical warning' .midi. Creating further Crytek engine stress.

2. Fidelity of betty's voice. mentioned on the prior page but if you have 32-bit + sound, increase the fidelity of the voice and blend it into the background music of the mech. Currently there is a break in the audio background when betty speaks.

3. Let betty tell you what systems and sub-systems have been hit. Example: your front chest gets damaged, it turns yellow. betty chirps: GAUSS CANON Damaged!.

after few (dozens) of matches i have decided to totally rework her voice.
I asked a female singer (from my band) and she agreed to do a recording session. When it's done, i will upload the file (fsb) so people that like the idea of Betty (but not the current version) can listen to her alternative voice (until its properly done by a professional).
My idea is that she needs an alternative option considering the current version. but am also for locking/bounding the files if we have a PGI version that is up to our standards.
If PGI needs/wants our money, we will give (if we like it). If they leave the option free for tweaking, well, we will also give money, just for something else :D

P.S. Am thinking of total reuse of her words. For example word "warning" in my POV should be copy/pasted to all sound clips that have a word "warning" in them. Its gonna sound a little awkward but that is the point of a complex computer announcement. It's gonna be edited, so the awkward feeling does't feel broken, but it will be a (little) noticeable.

Give me your thoughts on this pls, am open for ideas.

I like the way she sounds right now.
But I don't need "Target aquired" and "New target aquired".

There's something clinical and a little creepy to have a woman tell you calmly that missiles are incoming and itemise what 'that blasted Catty' has done to your armoury.
For me it adds a lot to the game.
Good work, Pirahna.

Also loving the 'Phract, it's good to have a stompy heavy. The Catty is a mech with a purpose and someone who knows what it's for can make a Dragon a presence on the battlefield.
But to have a 'big guns' heavy adds a lot to the game for me.

Now...a 55 tonner with jumpjets please...

I think PGI really need to make volume control for Betty, as i can't hear anything she saying in battle, or at leas just make her a bit more loud.
Plus "Target destroyed" would be really cool.

I waited until I had a good few hours of drops with the new BB before forming an opinion, and I have to say two things: LOVE having BB back. Frees my eyes up for other tasks, it's great. However, if I were to nitpick I would apply some light effects to the voice to make it just a smidgen more artificial. Carol did a smashing job on the tone and enunciation, so it's 90% there... just a little bit of... something... would make it perfect. Sorry I can't be more specific, but the extent of my sound editing experience is Audacity.

TL; DR: Loving BB and Carol! A bit of processing to make it more synthetic would make it perfect!

Betty, you don't have to keep tellin' us we are capturing the enemy base. We already captured it and are looking at our AAR. Spare your voice please dear.

I don't have a huge problem trying to find out where her voice is coming from, but I'd like her voice to go a little faster, I know it's supposed to be a synthetic voice, but to me, it sounds too plain, slow and kind of dull some times.

I'm experiencing audio cracking and other sound issues that I've already reported in the technical thread.

¿Don't you think Betty's voice should by played a little faster?, some times when she finishes a sentence the situation has already changed, to me it sounds kind of dozed, and reduces the game's rhythm.

¿Wouldn't you like to be able to configure what kind of warnings do we get from her?

the voice should not imply action, she´s my computer not a football commantator^^
she´s a cold hearted machine that tells me i´m screwed :wacko: i think she sounds okay so far, just needs some sound editing... (honestly guys, i always thought MY soundediting skills were bad :rolleyes: ) she just sounds like the stock studio microfone without further editing... a good start though :D

my only true problem is, that repeated messages appear too often, and i would agree too have an options panel to chose the feedback-messages betty gives me... well, i´d most probably leave them ALL activated anyway... :D

You're right, when I said "action" I meant "game rhythm" as she speaks so slowly to me it makes me feel everything is calmed and I have the entire day to do what I have to do. I've removed the word "action" to avoid confusion.
