If you've got nothing left but JJ then you close your eyes, grab your (insert here) and hit those thrust peddles while signing the cross; "Hail Mary, let me stick the landing!"

Say I attempt a DFA in MWO and someone kills my mech mid-jump. Assuming my mech continues on its flightpath (either a straight path or "catastrophic" path due to damage/overall death) and say, hits an enemy mech upon returning to earth....would it cause damage to said mech on the ground?
ie, do dead airborne mechs still get to have a last laugh?
Edit: Assuming this is put ingame, do we get an insane amount of experience for it, just because it's so random and incredibly unlikely?

Self inflicted damage from any hard collision,
and worse if the attempt FAILs.
Why worse if it fails? I mean if you miss it is just a Jump ... Of course you are now at point blank range to what might be a LOT of fire power that is very annoyed with you:)

Yes, the inflight mech should continue on it's initial path, crash on the ground, wrap the enemy mech in a "friendship" hug and let it's reactor go critical. Might be cool.

You should be awarded an awesome badge as well as lollipops lol

Why? Because you're piloting something weighing 20-100 TONS...it's got a lot of momentum and should do some physical data.

Perhaps vertical only JJ's would discourage people from using DFA as a primary weapon ( which happened alot in the good MW2 leagues, GC/Reg/TKZ ) and make it much harder to score a kill with one. imho DFA's should be sorta rare, or at least require a great deal of skill to successfully execute. They should also be well rewarded too.

DFA's are the maneuver that takes great skill and luck to pull off. If the DFAer messes up they'll pay for it. But when it succeeds...

So, what I'm getting from ya'll is that yes, it should be possible for a DFA attempting mech to crash into another mech and cause damage even if his mech is killed mid-flight; BUT there may/should be other factors included in the physics, making success difficult.
Sounds about right to me!

In a normal jump a pilot would apply thrust with the jets to 'slow' his descent, in a DFA, you're not slowing your descent and so if you miss, would hit the ground with the full force of that mech plummeting to the earth. That is why it would be self-inflicted damage for missing a DFA. However, depending on how they implement the jump mechanics, it may become a non-issue.
