My first thoughts.. yes you could also add buttons at least two.. to the left and right of the laser.

i like this. it looks like a person with good head control could use it.

often things like electric wheel chairs have the joystick function moved to positions where head mounted pointers fit into sockets and control the wheelchair.
of course driving a wheel chair does not require accessing weapon system.
yet.

I even bought it to try, but it was such a mess to use.
Tried to use it in an fps game and it didn't work for me at all.

How long ago was it that you bought it? The newest versions supposedly (I don't own TrackIR) work like smooth butter and track much better as well.

i am part of the group that took action to get people with disabilities the right to participate in normal everyday activity, so issues like this one mean something to me.

here is a link to a text page with a description of the specific action i was involved in, the sit in on the 4th floor of the federal building in San Francisco.
i contibuted by being there, and converted one of the air conditioners in califono's office into a refridgerator for the people that had medication that needed to be cooled since we were going to be there for an unknown amount of time.

http://www.dredf.org...e/histover.html

so why do i bring all this into this conversation?

there is an abundance of ignorance about people with disabilities and just how helpless we are NOT.
we can participate and we do not ask for special treatment, just ask to not be told we cant be here.

so with that in mind i see the question about the controls for the game not as a demand that the game be made/converted for access, just a request for information so that the people on the user end of the client can find some way to adapt.

to the OP:
please dont let me put words in your mouth or make this out to be something its not.
it's just that this is a hot button kind of subject for me and one that i can easily "get on my soapbx" about.
starting with the action mentioned above (from the late '70's), i have worked with people trying to get things to function for disabled people without causing allot of changes in the lives of the people that are not aware of and have no intrest in the lives of disabled people.

Im really sorry i was just trying to help with the joystick.

I have a friend who i met through my sisters surgery and he is disabled and i know you guys have it hard and i never try to stop him from doing things im just there to help if he needs it.

i was not trying to be an ignorant *** hole.

Give this man the tools to kill other players and laugh in glee as they explode. He wants to play, there can be no greater drive to find a way to game when you're a gamer.

I wish you success in this game and all others that you play.

When you said that I thought of Dragoons from starcraft. Body not working, fine, give that man a cybernetic walking tank to live in.

It's not wrong or mean to ask. Alot of people are just not aware of disability gaming issues etc.
So lets not make a big deal of it here and move on please =]
With Garth Erlams reply to my question, i bet i can play on a competetive level and kick half of your ***** =]
So thanks again everyone. This is one of the best communities i've seen in a while tbh and can' wait to play MWO.

Understood. Ive tried a few old versions of head tracking stuff too and, tbh, I didnt like controling anything but my point of view. It was ok for looking around environments but not for aiming weapons or controling vehicles. If they built in some goggles so I wouldnt need desktop screens to look "through" then it would be much better imo.

Check that out Doxy, solutions flyin' at you! Thats what a gaming community should be like.

I have a question; are you in a chair or bed? If you are in a chair, and IF MWO could support two trackball mice, perhaps Vex or one of our other resident geniuses (geniusi? geniusen?) could come up with a way to mount them to the arms of your chair. that way you don't have to work one mouse with two hands. Perhaps a little more comfortable as well.

Would be really cool to get a Kinect with win drivers that could act as Doxy's mouse (for torso), and sensitive enough to track head motions and handle the voice stuff as well.

Kinect has Near mode

Enables the camera to see objects as close as 40 centimeters in front of the device without losing accuracy or precision, with graceful degradation out to 3 meters.

I wish I had become a dev some days instead of support.

http://www.microsoft...evelop/new.aspx

I knew someone out there was working on it!

I wonder if minor modifications to some of the current devices out there could help...

Doxy, not meaning to pry, but you said your fingers don't work so well. Is that in regards to fine motor control, or just control in general?
Was thinking, oddly, of a combination of mouse and something akin to a power glove, or multiple implementations of something like this: http://tech2.in.com/...se-glove/285732

Wouldn't be the perfect solution (I think that would be the Dragoon cybertank option stated above), but it might give a bit more flexibility and access to controls.

And welcome to the forums! :(

yes on the goggles.
it seems that would almost be required for something that uses head motion since when you turn your head you are no longer facing the screen.
or at least it seems that way.
i have seen these systems available and have almost bought them for no other reason than to see how they solve that problem.

Another option is setting the number pad to different stages of speed: 0=stop 5=50%throttle 9=90%throttle 1=100% throttle etc. I use that for MW4 Mercs and MWLL.

Doxy, I'll assume you're a scout, since we've already confirmed level of badassery (high) and everyone knows scouts > everyone else.

:(

Welcome to the fold, look forward to seeing you on the field, crushing all else underfoot.

Good Hula!

My fingers don't work/move at all. My wrists can move tho.
That glove looks nice but unfortunately i won't be able to press the buttons.

Another (and IMO simpler) way to set throttle is the same way other incarnations of MW did it.
Use keys 1-0 to set the throttle % speed (i.e. 10% - 100%) with backspace as reverse and another command for all stop.

I don't know much about your disablity Droxy but if by any chance you can move you feet just up and down then could a floorpad with throttle and break pedals be a viable option for movement?

P.S I salute you Doxy and wish to face you one day on the battlefield. Either with or against me. :(
