Headshots are normal, I think. But you can't simply stand 2 kms away from the battle and snipe people. Only well aimed shot during a fight can do it. ;)

Win! Somehow you ran OVER the Fence. Hahaha

Agreed. But MW 3 and 2 were superior to the 4th game. ;)

Sure, as long as you're not a fan of mulitplayer. As cool as those games were, techincally (and I mean the tech of) the Multiplayer stank.

I love a nice inflammatory thread in the morning!

Head-shots will be present... That said, PGI has done away with "insta-hit" one-shot-one-kill, essentially requiring both Mechs to be standing still in order for long-range sniping to take place. Even then, it'll take an oblivious stationary target to accomplish it.

;)

Interesting topic, but i actually think it will be the opposite and that the TT crowd will be shocked by what the mechwarrior generation do to their beloved Battletech ;)

So my mech doesn't have shields?

WHAT....I am gonna have to ask for a source on this. Not one dev has come out and said this.
If I can't have sheilds I am just not gonna play. all i ask for....no DEMAND in a free game is Shields.....

Wait....what are we Talking about again.

I believe what MW 4 and and such ,was a fun verison of MW ,but more visuals than serious combat and sim. It was a fun and good looking game, but to do a TT sim justice needs to have more flavor and MW:O seem to be looking like it's going in the right direction. As stated before ,anyone screaming for a Uziel ,was brought up on that game. Couldn't stand the mech myself, though it looks pretty cool.

Kind of an odd topic... OP seems very smug about MW4-bred players having to deal with older tech. I think you're just happy that they aren't getting their preferred Mech or tech.

I'm not getting my Wolf for up to a year or so, but I'll wait for it. Til then I have plenty of circa-3049 Mechs spec'd out with time-appropriate tech that will more than keep me busy. And with the experience I gain with the game's mechanics, by the time the Wolf DOES come out for purchase, I'll be able to more quickly maximize its use (though I suspect we will be getting used to new Tech at that time as well)

Netmech was probably the most fun in my opinion at least. It probably has to do with the time period it was out to some degree, but the lag shooting required added another skill to master. Seemed in the newer versions (mercs, titanium and i will throw in MW3 too even though it is totally different) the networking just got worse and the game became less stable. It is not the closest depiction of BT combat, but as already stated a direct translation to an online game doesn't really work out well either.

That being said, I still think the ones with the most issues adjusting may be those who played almost exclusively with fantasy settings. That has been going on since Netmech. Not sure how many people like that there actually are though.

Are you suprised in lacking MP during the age of 24k modems? ;)

I just felt kinda weird with the graphics in MW4. In many cases there was less detail than in MW3. It's the realism graphics vs stylized graphics debate. The benefit was that Micro$oft can market almost anything. MechWarrior 4 and Mercs had so MANY people playing them, that they have to count as a win.

So far we've seen lasers and autocannons that don't look like glowy rectangles... I think the MW4 generation will appreciate MWO as much or even more than some of us veterans. If only because now they will have a REAL MechWarrior game.

No, and it was amazing for its time, there was hardly anything like it. But in retrospect, with todays, or even MW4 capabilities, its terrible. But the quote was "superior to the 4th" and I was just mentioning that in the way of multiplayer, it wasn't.

I personally think the main point is that a lot of people are gonna be upset (even if they haven't gotten the message by now, like you have) that clan mechs won't be here from the beginning.

And that's just fine with a lot of us who think it makes for a better game this way, by trying to follow a timeline like they are.

It gives us all something to look forward to (or dread if that may be the case)

Personally I see the TT croud crying the loudest because some numbers will not be exactly the same. It's a little strange when people want everything porter over from the TT game to a firstperson realtime mechsimulator. Realism doesn't mean TT rules (At least not for me).

In the end everyone who played any MechWarrior game before has already played something similar. And while a lot of moaning about the differences will probably happen the people should have no problem adapting. Maybe the people who only played 3rd person will have a little more trouble.

No, but 24k modems are the signature for the old multiplayer gaming. ;)

if this game only appeals to die-hard TT fans, then it will not succeed as a business venture, because that is a very narrow niche market. it had better be fun for regular gamers, who dont give a hoot about history or canon, or else the game is doomed.
